There's a thread in the Toolset subforum where a guy asks how to disable spiders on the PC version by changing the models from spiders to say, wolves. You can find that topic here: http://social.biowar.../8/index/227871

I recently purchased the game thinking it's going to be like a D&D/Baldur's Gate type of experience and was having a blast for the first couple of hours... until I ran through a spider web and into a giant spider. I had to turn the game off shortly after because I'm so terrified of spiders that I cannot and will not play any game with spiders as enemies in the game. I was playing the Dwarf Noble origin's Dark Roads quest.

I know there's been talk of a patch for the game. Is there any possibility to add in a "disable spiders" option in the game options? Change them to wolves, skeletons or zombies, something that fits in with the theme of the area and I'll gladly play the game again. I'd even pay additional money as DLC to turn off those creepy scary things. I can't "just get over it"; it is literally impossible for me to play the game right now.

I play games to have fun. Getting startled and scared isn't my idea of fun. If it's possible to mod the game on PC, surely it can't be that difficult to release a patch or DLC on 360 to accomplish the same thing.

Thanks BioWare. I hope to be able to enjoy your game someday, but right now I can't.

Now, I know the game has a lot of bugs, but I believe those ones were meant to be there.

aracniphobia is a serious issue for some people, like myself. but i take that fear in game and kill them even though i take my feet off the floor and my whole body shivers, in fright.

I don't like spiders either, but really? I realize it takes a certain level of suspension of disbelief to maintain immersion, but being so affected by giant spiders on a TV screen is a bit of a reach.

Phobias are actually manifestations of a fear different than that which the phobia is of. The problem is that what that other fear is, is often something that is encountered regularly, and fearing it would cause you to be unable to function well. For example, often times, people who suffer from a fear of heights actually have a fear of failure. Failure is encountered nearly every day in one way or another, whereas being visibly elevated doesn't occur everyday. It is healthy to fear some things, even heights, but it becomes a phobia by definition for being an irrational fear. People who truly have a phobia of heights, will begin to get nervous and while standing ontop of a step ladder, it is healthy and normal to have a fear of falling from a 10 story building. Seeing as you're struck deathily afraid by a spider who is in game, and can in no way come to harm you, you have an irrational fear and thus a phobia. The only real way to deal with a phobia is to somehow find what the real fear is, and deal with that fear, lest the phobia be transferred to something different. A therapist would be the best way to find out what your fear is actually of, and be rid of it though it would take some time.

At least, this is what I remember from my psychology class, take it as you will - I know if I developed a phobia I'd want to be rid of it as soon as I could manage. I think I remember a funny example of a phobia was there being a child from 17th century or so who was afraid of mustaches, who was actually afraid of horses.

If I remember correctly.. don't hold me to it.. there seem to be only 3 or 4 places that have spiders.. some tunnels in Orzammar, the mage circle cave quest for the mages opening, 1 random encounter.(that one might be hard to avoid.) I'm sure there's one more place.. but maybe you could get a friend to get through these areas with you or for you..

I highly doubt they will make a no spider toggle.

I posted earlier, a true phobia is an IRRATIONAL fear - so the OP definitely has a phobia seeing as his fear extends to spiders depicted in an environment that could never actually cause him harm.

I'm sorry, StoneRaizer, that spiders (real or pixel) give you the creeps. While I don't suffer from arachnophobia, I can thoroughly understand how those who DO suffer would have a hard time completing certain sections of the game. You know in your rational mind that those critters are only in the game but I'm sure you can actually feel them on YOU. And that makes you uncomfortable. Incredibly uncomfortable. In a way that those who don't share your particular phobia may have difficulty understanding.

I know someone who had the same reaction to a different mob in a different game and had to shelve it for a while because of it. I had already played the game, so I sat with them while they went through the parts where there were lots of that type of mob.

Wish I could sit with you through the spider sections. As Vyvex said, there really aren't THAT many places where you'll encounter them. If you knew where they were, do you think you could power through those sections so you could get back to enjoying the game?

One cannot just "get over" a phobia.

Sadly, while the PC version can be modded I doubt we'd ever see anything like this for the xbox 360. If you have an adequate PC maybe you should invest in the PC version and mod or somehow cheat your way past spiders. I hope you find a solution.

first step is to address the issue, identify it and take the steps to over come it, or solve it. As a human bean you can over come this issue....maybe first step is this game ....then next is a real life spider in a pet shop or something of that nature...

I recently purchased the game thinking it's going to be like a D&D/Baldur's Gate type of experience and was having a blast for the first couple of hours... until I ran into an enemy who was wielding a sword. I had to turn the game off shortly after because I'm so terrified of swords that I cannot and will not play any game with swords as weapons in the game. I was playing the Dwarf Noble origin's Dark Roads quest.

I know there's been talk of a patch for the game. Is there any possibility to add in a "disable swords" option in the game options? Change them to axes, hammers, or large, frozen tuna? Something that fits in with the theme of the area and I'll gladly play the game again. I'd even pay additional money as DLC to turn off those sharp scary things. I can't "just get over it"; it is literally impossible for me to play the game right now.

Oh wow, of all the reasons...I laughed at this sorry.
It's an M rated game and therfore you should expect detailed, grotesque images, etc..
Then there is the fact your actually afraid of a digital spider that in know why can affect you in real life. I'm afraid of a few things, and I'm eve clasuterphobic, but when I don't ask them to remove all the small areas in the game because it scares me. (And honestly it doesn't, it's a game)

Second, for the PC version a mod is possible. On the 360 it is not.

And I actually thought you waned them gone because they were cheap and just stun stun stun stun and stun you again, but guess not...

Are you serious? I'm petrified of all bugs, especially spiders and silver fish. But you're just being a **** when you can't look at a spider in a ****ing video game.
