So now we at least know something about James Vega

Who's to say he's submitted?
Imma say Bioware and their ability to shove canonical up sphincters like a barrel cactus in hell. It's plainly obvious he is on Earth to stand trial from the snippets already shown in demo videos. Whether he put up a fight or not is going to be moot. They *may* allow a two way beginning choice based on selections from Arrival.
1) Shep goes in peacefully.
2) Shep puts up a futile effort to escape only to be brought in anyway.
Either way he is there and my money is on forced submissiveness given how the previous game began.

Must everybody on Shepard's squad have some sort of psychological trauma? Seriously!
Liara didn't had it in ME1.
And she was boring as hell and didn't helped much when her mother dies later on in game.

Well, since we already know that ain't gonna happen why not assume the logical tact?
Some people still don't like waiting quietly. They'll deck someone in or on the way to that trial. I know my Renegade Femshep will do her damn best to do that.

Let me know how that pans out with cutscenes.

Guarding an imprisoned Shepard? That is just asking to have your face smashed into a wall when Shepard breaks out of jail.
Anderson isn't the guy you want looking out after you it seems.
He's not guarding Shepard for not to escape, but for someone not to attack Shepard( Batarian Hegemony or Cerberus) while he/she is unarmed and in chains.

He can just strangle the idiots with aforementioned chains.

Probably won't be necesary against Cerberus, considering their track record they will probably manage to kill themselves before they can threaten Shepard.Someone With Mass wrote...

He beat up a batarian with a television screen. He's a winner in my book.
And I really don't think PTSD is "boring" or "overused." It's a legitimate topic in a game about war.
Its not until you actually know someone who suffers from PTSD that you actually understand it and can "sympathize" with it. Very old friend of mine came back from Afganastan a few years back. Long story short, it essentially ruined his marriage because of the complications. And some days, its like he's not even the same guy I used to know. Point is, you're right, it's hardly "boring" or "overused". Especially when the topic hits close to home. I have a gut feeling that Vega may be the character in ME3 that I can most closely relate and/or connect with. So, combine that, with the fact that he took out a batarian with a television screen, and he is definitely slotted to have a very good chance of being one of my favorite characters in ME3

Seriously...this made me sigh.
It's a formality to have a guard on Shep. No one is going to make it onto an Alliance warship with the intent of doing some hand to hand with a prisoner in chains. What's the point? Why not just set off a large bomb and blow the entire ship if an enemy even made it that far to begin with. Good luck strangling someone on the outside of a secure cell smirking as they arm the device.

Lol reading through some comments, one thing came to my mind... uh no, two things actually, but one's "lol this forum is full of idiots", but the one that's on topic is that it seems that people either love ( "omg he beaten up 30 batarians with a TV I love him") or hate Vegas ( "omg he beaten up 30 batarians with a TV wtf another stupid character ).
Heh.
I think the safe option for people who don't like what the comic says, then ignore it
In my view what happens in the games and codex is what counts, anything else I can take or leave

The only renegade interupt that will matter is the first reaper touching down. The rest just serve to funnel you right to the start of the game.
Just sayin'...

If James Vega acts all like 'I'VE LIVED A TOUGH LIFE AND SEEN THINGS UVE NEVR EXPERIENCED B4, YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT ITS LIKE TO BE ME, I DRINK HEAPS OF ALCOHOL IN MY SPARE TIME TO GET RID OF THE PAIN, I'M SO EMOTIONALLY DISTRESSED, GO AWAY I DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT, OKAY FINE I NEED YOUR HELP WITH SOMETHING SHEPARD.' then I'll be unhappy

It does sound a bit bland and uninteresting but then again a lot of previous characters in Bioware games sound uninteresting and bland until you've seen them in-game.

I'd sacrifice kittens, bunnies, and puppies if it helped to prevent a story element like that.*
Hopefully Anderson has placed him around Shepard because this is someone else that knows what Vega is experiencing. I'd like to believe that Vega will get guidance, though not in the touchy, feely way, that Shepard has given to previous squad members to become his/her replacement (or at least a force to be reckoned with) for future iterations of the game.
* that was a joke

Not the "Oooh! Commander Shephurd!
PTSD is a good concept for a character in a war story. Sure, there are still going to be the people who will whine because "Hurr durr he has a mohawk and he is muscular!", but I can see that he has potential.
