Saw this topic a while back, figured I'd make another one. What is your canon Shepard?
Name: John Shepard
Pre-service History: Colonist
Psychological Profile: Sole Survivor
Military Specialization (ME1/ME2): Infiltrator, Infiltrator
Path followed in ME1/2: Paragon, Paragon
Love Interest(s): Liara T'soni, Miranda Lawson
Went with Colonist because it sounded kind of interesting, more than Earthborn at least, and just wasn't interested in Spacer. Sole Survivor fit with the whole theme of going through loss and making you stronger.
And I went Infiltrator because I figured, he's gotta have some combat skills, but they barely ever mention you being a Biotic (I think one single line from Kaidan in ME1), and since human Biotics are supposed to be extremely rare, if they don't mention it, I can't see Shep as a Biotic. Infiltrator was a nice mix of combat and tech skills, and also fit my loner background.
Paragon because I can't help but being a good guy in these types of games, but mixed in plenty of Renegade dialogue (especially the interrupts!).
Romanced Liara first more because I didn't care for Ashley than really liking Liara. Got with Miranda just for fun, then got Liara back in LotSB because her character became awesome.

Went with Colonist because it appealed to me the most. Living on the frontier and the dangers of it all reminded me of the Western expansion in the US which is where I live. Ruthless because it tied in well with the batarians attacking the colony of Mindoir and the batarians on Torfan. It also helped explain why he'd be so callous/ruthless during the battle and helped develop his personality while RPing through both games.
I went with vanguard because I like biotics a lot. Plus, vanguard combines close quarters combat/high risk/high reward tatics in combat which relate to the ruthless aspect of my Shepard. It's not much of a stretch of my imagination for my Shepard to be exposed to ezzo while a child or even in the womb on the colony of Mindoir, and further developed after being picked up by the Alliance.
Renegade because I like playing Dirty Harry type characters that have no time for politics or beaucrats. That doesn't make him a 'dick'. I can't stomache being the uber nice guy. He's friendly/nice to his crew and some npcs, but if they're scum bags, nutjobs, or other assorted trash they get their head vented. He's also willing to make the hard choices even if that isn't the most politically correct one.
Didn't romance anyone in ME1 cause Ashley came acorss as practicaly insuborinate to him. Questioning his orders, making uncouth comments about Liara's sexuality, xenophobic comments about the squad, and way too casual at times around her superior officer. Liara was picked up late in the mission and seemed too much like a egghead. Plus, the mission was a more pressing issue then knocking boots.
Romanced Jack because although their experiences were different they both went through traumatic events when they were young and they were both biotics. My Shepard could easily see himself ending up like Jack had it not been for the Alliance. Despite her abrasive facade Shepard knew there was more to her, and that the real Jack was worth knowing. The mission was foremost, important but over the course of recruiting her and helping her with her past it led to something more.

This is my canon Paragon Shepard, jesus like in beliefs. Though unlike Jesus; he shags chicks, Asari to be more specific. I was careful to make him Asari oreinted as much as possible. Even though it's not mentioned, I like to assume the slaves that destroyed his colony were Batarian Slavers. It makes sense, and also interesting when it comes to his relationship with the Batarians (especially Arrival, I hope it's mentioned when he's being tried in 3).

Just like his parents, Strider is fully commited to the Alliance (he never gave up Bhatia's wife for the sake of the Alliance). Although he wouldn't like to admit it, he does feel that the human race is a little more superior that the other races. For armor: He wears Onyx 10, and standard N7 armor with the Death Mask. The only problem with this character canon wise is that he gains Biotics in the second game. To explain this I like to think that the Lazarus project gave him the biotics. He's the only Shepard that kept the Collector Base, and killed off the council.

Earthborn is the background that best shapes the character to my liking. Learns from an early age to defend and look out for himself, and how to be resilient and overcome adversity. When enlisting, Shepard is a punk-from-the-hood but matures along the way, with Elysium becoming a turning-point in his life (I'm actually working on a fan-fic of this right now).
Cerberus rebuilds Shepard with biotic-powers during Lazarus, hence the switch in classes. Sentinel biotics are just simple Throw and Warp, so mastering two simple powers doesn't seem too farfetched.
Jack-Shepard pairing made too much sense. He can understand her in ways others do not, and eventually comes to care for her. Shepard's motivation is waning a bit, working for people he doesn't trust and dealing with the trauma of coming back from death. Jack gives him something else to fight for.
Shepard generally tries to save as many people as possible, but recognizes where sometimes sacrifices need to be made. He's principled, though, and only takes this path if he can justify it reasonably and the costs are not too high. Ethics and logic both matter.

Earth Born: I felt I wanted him to mean it when he says he understands to his squaddies when they open up to him...his had it rough too and so can at least have some idea of what they maybe feeling...Plus I love Earth and like that connection Shep still has.
War Hero: A good, strong reason for Shep to be noticed and considered for Spectre-hood.
Infiltrator: I love the whole Sniping, techie, partial stealth thing...Infiltrator also suits my gaming combat style perfectly, heavy on the tactical approach and primarily Sniper.
Paragon: Because that's the way I roll....plus I tend to get quite emotionally involved, even with pixels and just can't cope with causing un-necessary pain...hate watching it...I even go so far as to never using 'Incinerate' or 'Inciderary Ammo'...it's so cruel...thus my penchant for specializing in 'Head Shots'.
Romance: No romance, Shep just hasn't found the right girl for him....I am hoping that changes in ME3.

The name: I sat, staring at the screen, for about an hour trying to think of a name. Then I gave up and looked up the 10 most popular female names. Emily was in the top 5, and I just said, "Meh." It's not like anyone says Shepard's first name, anyways.
I chose Spacer because I liked the family history, and it's a happier story than Earthborn or Colonist. I didn't really want my Shep to have a huge emotional backstory, which is why I chose War Hero to go along with it. I love the feeling of overcoming unlikely odds and rallying a team to save the day, so War Hero was great (and I felt it helped set up Shepard's leadership role in the games).
I'm boring, I just went with Soldier. But I prefer to just shoot instead of using abilities and such.
Paragon because I have a hard time being evil... Plus, I don't want red eyes. Although I did push that guard out the window during Thane's recruitment and I punched the reporter in each game.
I don't get why so many people dislike him, I love Kaidan. Although I'm going to have to have a discussion with him about his attitude on Horizon. Still, I stayed loyal.
And finally, I like the Alliance better than Cerberus or the Council. It feels far nobler than the former two, and Hackett so far has been an honest guy. I'm glad we're returning to the Alliance in ME3.

Canon Shepard is as close to what my personality/beliefs are. The idea of growing up in the colonies and surviving a tragic event appealed to me on a personal level. Soldier because I like to shoot things and soak up damage. He was mostly pragmatic for ME1, but after he died and came back to life he decided to take a more heroic attitude towards everything. Despite being loyal to the Alliance he realizes the power of the Spectres and decided that being loyal to the Council could prove to be very important in the coming fight against the Reapers. Still willing to work with the Alliance as the situation demands though.
Connected with Liara at first because she helped him cope with the visions, and admired her inner strength and beauty. However after she refused to be by his side in ME2 he began to realize how much more Tali had been there for him, so he decided to be with her. He still has feelings for Liara though, as he invited her up to the Normandy for drinks post-SM in ME2. Time will tell who he ultimately decides to be with in ME3.

I like to think of my Shepard as Half American and Half Brazilian more mixed heritage, growing up in the slums of the Megatropolises. My Shep romanced Liara in ME1, then got with Miranda for fun, then got with her in LotSB.
