Just made a wizard with 16 dex and weapon finesse for melee touch attacks but i'm only getting +1 on attack rolls.  what gives?

Melee touch attacks aren't finesseable. I don't know if that's the way it should be, but that's the way it is.

I'm glad someone answered. Not being a big Mage fan, I've never needed to consider it. But I recall some restrictions in weapon finesse on weapon size and type which doesn't list touch so even though I would agree it should be allowed, making your character a Master Tickler, it doesn't seem to be allowed in the 3.0 rulebooks (sorry, never brought the 3.5 version so can't confirm 100%)

According to 3.0, it is restricted to light weapons. You must have a +1 base attack bonus prerequisite. And you apply it to a new light weapon every time you retake the Feat. I can't recall inside NWN2 whether you choose a weapon with weapon finesse? I seem to recall its just a one-off feat that applies to all light weapons which already makes it more powerful than the Pen and Paper version.

Don't you also have to have Weapon Specialization for Finesse of said weapon? I was pretty sure you have to have more than Martial, Simple or Exotic skills in order to Weapon Finesse. I could be wrong. I just can't nerve myself up to re-read my 3.5 manuals (I really only got them to understand the current NWN2 structure) for just this tidbit of data. Sorry.

In NWN2 you only need 1 BAB, and you don't pick a specific weapon. No idea about PnP.

Weapon Finesse from the 3.5 and 3.0 players handbook is this:
You are especially skilled at using weapons that can benefit as muchfrom Dexterity as from Strength.Prerequisite: Base attack bonus +1.Benefit: With a light weapon, rapier, whip, or spiked chain madefor a creature of your size category, you may use your Dexteritymodifier instead of your Strength modifier on attack rolls. If youcarry a shield, its armor check penalty applies to your attack rolls.Special: A fighter may select Weapon Finesse as one of hisfighter bonus feats (see page 38).Natural weapons are always considered light weapons.

NWN 2 butchers weapon finesse because they have weapons that are light weapons in the game not listed as light weapons and the weapon finesse feat only applies to the list it gives you in game not all light weapons including touch attacks from a mage which is considered a light melee weapon according to the rule book in the magic chapter but the video games never follow the PNP games to the letter though they should the side effect of this is that the character class's that benefit from many of the feats like the swashbuckler and rogue and monk are nerfed horrible bad in the video games making it almost not worth playing them.
