Badly coded so it can't acknowledge the Steam version.

So, like a bunch of other schmucks, I bought ME1 on Steam. Oh, wait, I had a netbook when it came out.  I got a new computer, was like, must play ME series!

So, I played through.  Enjoyed ME1.  Beat it after buying it on Steam (the only way the purchase it without waiting two weeks).

Played played played. Oh, beat it just now.   I'll buy ME2! And some DLC! And just go balls out!

So I did that. Bought it on Steam (like I bought ME1), more than a few DLCs, etc.

So why can this badly coded piece of **** not even acknowledge my previous ME1 final save?  You know. THe one that ME1 lets me continue.  I click on the save directory... it just ignores.

So: a fix?  Or do I have to finally clean my hands of laziness?

?? Did you run the config utility and use the import function to point ME2 towards the ME1 saves??

FAQ sticky....  1.2 deals with imports....

Sorry that I pointed it towards those saves... and clicked... and it wanted me to point... and clicked... and smashed my face into my desk.

did you look at the Manual import part of the FAQ at 1.2, telling you what to copy and where to copy it too, to import your ME1 to ME2 manually.

1.2 Importing
1.2.1 How do I import my Shepard from ME1 PC?
From ME2's patch notes:

1) Run the Mass Effect 2 configuration utility from the main launcher.
2) Click the 'Save Games' button.
3) Click the 'Copy Mass Effect 1 Save Games' button, and select the appropriate location for your ME1 save game.
(The default location is 'My Documents\\bioware\\Mass Effect\\Save'.)
4) This will copy the appropriate save games from your ME1 directory into the proper place in the ME2 directory.
5) Run Mass Effect 2, and from the main menu select 'New Game'.
6) Select 'Import ME1 Character'.
7) Your savegame should now show up in the list.

This
can also be done manually if you wish. As mentioned above, ME1 saves
are in Documents\\Bioware\\Mass Effect\\Save\\. Files starting with
Shepard's first name are mid-game saves and are of no use to ME2. The
files with names filled with numbers and dashes, following the naming
pattern Char_01-LL-#-#-#-DD-MM-YYYY-HH-MM.MassEffectSave, are the
end-game saves that can be imported to ME2. Copy any or all of them to

Documents\\Bioware\\Mass Effect 2\\Save\\ME1\\
and they should show up for
importation in ME2.

Yes, I buy a game through one vendor, and buy the direct sequel through the same vendor... and then have to jump through hoops to connect these two.

Please code better, if you're going to let it import data. I shouldn't have to jump through hoops.

It's called 'planning for the future' and 'not being an illiterate ****.' Especially when the main secure means of purchasing the game is through Steam. Ain't seen the game within 60mi of my location nowadays-- need more copypasta dungeons! They gotta h u s t l e makemoney a la 8bit Cynics and Dewey Bins.

(PS, on the third time through following the instructions it actually did it's thing. The other times it **** the bed. Sorry if I laugh a bit. I don't mean to insult your beardobsession, even if I am.)

Its got nothing to do with ME2, or Bioware, or even EA. It has everything to do with the way Steam decides to take over how the game is installed, and how it handles the registry entries. If you had purchased the game hard copy, or through Origins, D2D, or any other digital distributor, you wouldnt have these issues.

Feel free to direct your rage at the Steam(ing pile of crap) support pages.

Lol!  (And I don't do that often.)  Makes a change for something other than EA support to get it in the neck...

So you are upset at steam, ea, bioware etc because you couldn't follow the simple instructions for importing your saves from Mass Effect... That makes sense.
