Is Vega a dude, because a majority of us killed Kaidan on Virmire?

I imagine Vega is a dude because slapping boobs on that already impressive busom would make the universe implode.

If people play Gears of War merely to gawk at muscled characters, than maybe you're right.

haha, they do, just can't admit it to themselves...

but really, i believe bioware when they say Vega is there to represent new ME gamers... he seems like an archetypical, reliable, supporting character (think Dom, Cpt. Price) in action games... plus he'll be as lost as the new players...

I love the comma in the topic. It makes it sound as though the OP isn't sure of Vegas' gender. After that it sounds like OP is implying that Vega should not be a man because most people nuke Kaiden instead of Ashley.

Should read: Is Vega a dude because a majority of us killed Kaiden on Virmire?

I would say that yeah, maybe part of the reason behind Vega's male gender is that most players killed Kaiden rather than Ashley.

But it'll be a moot point if there's a new female human companion as well.

What are the numbers anyway? I romanced each at least once and after that it was a coin toss over who died. Now that I think about it, my quarter didn't seem to like Ashley....

I don't have the specific numbers, but I figured that it would be obvious Ash would survive over Kaiden most of the time.

A. Most players are straight males and would be inclined to save the female
B. ESPECIALLY if pursuing a romance option and it happened to be one of the VI survivors

And while I don't think the ratio of Ash to Kai survival has ever been put up, we DO know for a fact that Ash survived more often and that FemSheps were played a lot less than Male Shepards.

My thinking is that Ash is more likely to die in a FemShep playthrough because

A. Female gamers are inclined to play a female most likely
B. Again, if pursuing a romance, Ash is likely going down

So I don't think Kaiden ever had a chance of surviving more than Ash. The only way I could've seen it coming is if Ash was such a bad character that no one wanted her to breathe. Luckily, she's a great character.

So is he, but many people tend to thrash him for "Carth-syndrome", which is also part of the reason he gets killed in some players games.

So when all things are considered, I don't think it should be a surprise to anyone and I don't think the numbers are needed at this point.

They may be revealed later though.

Also, do we even know if there IS going to be a new human female squadmate?

Cause I'd like that.

Vega doesn't have anything to do with who's the VS, if anything he will have something to do with the inevitable new female squaddie.

Nah, I think what the OP is implying is that they made Vega male because most killed Kaiden, thus there would be a woman and man on the team, instead of if Ash was killed most of the time and then there'd be two men.

Get it?

Its under the implication that there is no new human female squaddie.

More to the point, 80% of players of ME2 played MaleShep, and Kaidan was killed by default if your new Shep was male.

As for me, I saved Ashley only once, not only did I like Kaidan more, but his abilities were 100X more useful. If I wanted a combat monster in my group, I used Wrex, not Ashley.

Personally, I'm expecting Ash and Kaidan to get offed to save money or taken out of play (like Bethany and Carver in DA2). Hope I'm wrong, but it's been Bioware's style.

There's going to be a new female squadmember, but i'm iffy on whether i want them to release her yet because all it will do is cause lots of threads insulting her physical appearance

Vega is the new Half Black Half White super giant muscle bound "******" for the S/Sers, and theres going to be a new Female whose White but more of a "redneck" than Ashley is - a little bit bigger - short hair - and is the super "Lesbian" of the group.

Otherwise I don't see the need for another Anders 3.0 or Jacob 2.0 or Kelly 2.0

I'm sure there are several reasons that Vega is male, and I would think that similarity to Ashley is the biggest concern. After all, if it was the fact that Kaidan was dead in most playthroughs, it would be much more likely that we would get a replacement Sentinel, rather than another Soldier, who duplicates Ashley's combat role if not her specific suite of abilities. Sorry if someone else already said that, I haven't read the entire discussion.

Vega's a dude because he's focus tested. Geared to appeal to that sweet 12 to 14 year old audience that bioware is so desperately after.

Guess I'm not part of the majority then. I'm a hipster that way.

Same here. I nuked Ashley because, hey, she's lower ranked, and also isn't a biotic. She has no real assets to Shepard's team, unfortunately. She did her duty, and I was sad to see her go, but... Kaidan was the more practical choice.

This is why Kaidan survived 5 out of 6 of my playthroughs. I actually like Ashley as a character a lot, and if I could have saved her more often I would have. But for my two very Paragon characters, the clear choice was Kaidan because he's a biotic, an officer, and he's been on the Normandy longer. Neither of them had much of a personal connection with Kaidan, they both romanced Liara. And one is a male Shepard, the other female, Vanguard and Adept, so there was some kinship borne of them being biotic and recognizing the tactical superiority of biotics.

My two Neutral characters saved Kaidan too, because logically it makes the most sense. My male Sentinel obviously has a kinship with Kaidan, and even though my female Engineer romanced him, she's my most dispassionate character and would make that decision based solely on the salient facts.

Of my two Renegade characters, the male Infilitrator is the only one who saved Ashley, and it was only because he wanted to "hit that" and he just generally doesn't like other dudes, he has no "bromances" to speak of. My female Soldier is named Ashley Shepard, and she Renegade-romanced Kaidan, but she's such a pyscho hose beast that literally the only reason she let Ashley die on Virmire is because she didn't like that they had the same name. That's how her messed-up mind works. This is the woman who saved Morinth, for crying out loud. It's not that she cared about Kaidan, she probably would have let them both die if she could. But she always saw Ashley as a rival, and this way she could let her die and be able to "justify" it. I play my Renegade Soldier as eeeeeevil.

I suspect that I'll save Ashley because she stays in-character through ME2, but... Kaidan does make more logical sense to save.

I disagree. The only religious party member, and she calls Shepard a god upon reuniting in ME2. How is that in-character?
