Is this game supposed to be so ridiculously easy?

The level of difficulty is also tied very directly to the type of class you use and how you play. Barbarians, fighters, and monks will be able to power through the game with little to no effort. Sorcerers, mages, and clerics will have a harder time but will probably do fine once they learn how to use spells. I'd argue the most challenging classes to play are skill classes, bards and rogues especially. If you want a challenge, play as a bard.

It's like the OC is a giant demo. A demonstration of what can be done. Sort of a vanilla version of what would become, I surmise, the most popular RPG of all time. It's like people have said there's a lot more to it now after dozens of patches, thousands of modules, and of course online, which does not interest you that much. My take is that they made the OC pretty easy so that people would not get frustrated and quit, sort of like aiming at the lowest common denominatior. That would be my take on their approach, and it seems to have worked.

I remember having come up with the Master of Uselessness, in a forum dedicated to the WORST builds ever, you could try this. Real challenge.

I think it went like 19 Sorc/ 1 Fighter half-orc (the first level obviously was fighter with CHA 09). It's guaranteed to suck and fail. You will have the largest xp-penalty, be unable to cast anything but summon familiars and have lousy BA.

And still be able to breeze through the OCs! LOLOLOLOL

I dont think so at all!

Ok, part of the idea behind the worst build competition was choose useless feats (Drity Fighting comes to mind) and such. Fight Unarmed, generating multiple AO's, etc...

The OC may not be the hardest of the campaigns. But it is more difficult if you start with a 1st level character.

I suspect this is the basis of the OP's claim of non-challenge and not being able to level.  A level 15 pre-built was never intended for the OC.

Once one recognizes that the OC was intended as an introduction to NWN for RPG enthusiasts, its merits can be more easily digested, personal biases aside.  It served as a great launching point for future creativity, packaged with the Toolset.  With just the Toolset sold by itself, I wonder what effect the absence of a relatively bug-free sample campaign would have on the custom design community.

Haha, that totally escaped my thinking, give your character a massive handicap!

Like a Halfling who MUST take 18 Intel but must NOT take Rogue or Wizard class, sure he may have been the smartest loot in the lot, but man would he struggle in the face of adversity!

Na, one can compensate with the oodles of items and henchies..

Other than Bodyknock.

Using him will really be a hindrance.

What??? the prebuilt chaps are lvl 15?

If the OP started with this, pls forget about it! re-start at lvl 1.

God, even in my first try I NEVER used prebuillt anything... I remember having read well the manual and chosen ELven Monk. My only regret was that I reached the last battle at lvl 15 or 16 I guess... But then I was not the XP-monger I am now.

LOL, running the OC at lvl 15 would be hysterical. The random drops from crates and barrels are scaled, so you'd be able to run around town poking through peoples garbage and finding stuff like "Plate of Command" and +3 weapons. :)

Barrel o lootz syndrome!

NWN2 MotB is even worse - I once found Full Plate + 5 in a barrel!

"Dad! What should I do with this Platemail in the basement?"
"Throw it out, son! I don't want you to turn into an adventurer like I was! The field needs plowing!"

I managed to reach 15 a couple of quests before Luskan - which is the highest I ever reached in this stage, thx to my xp-mongering.

I had no clue that they were 15th level. I started it with whatever you get in the magic school, custom character, and found it pretty easy, though not ridiculously so. No wonder he had no problems. lol! Yeah I think I was like 13th in Luskan, or just after.

All those pre-mades were for players who wanted to just dive in and start playing without trying to figure out all the building attributes.  If the designers were really on the ball, they would have forced a de-level back to Level 1 for campaigns that were designed to be played that way.  So don't feel alone.  It's a natural mistake for beginners. The game is not complicated but has many "tentacles".

If you also have the expansions, a heads up... SoU was also designed for a Level 1 character.  HotU was designed to start at Level 15.  If you have a HIGHER level PC, like from playing the plague campaign solo (usually ends around Level 18 give or take a level or so), it will not de-level it.  But if you start with one LOWER than Level 15 (like the one you played through SoU), it will automatically cue you to level it up to 15.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, your loot will be seeded according to your class and character level so you will need to work at it this time. ;)

Now you will have MUCH more fun!  Enjoy your introduction to the wide world of NWN.  Morag is waiting for you!

The game provides both Level 1 PCs & Level 15 PCs as pre-generated versions.  They all suck!
