It's all obfuscated away, of course (they just have to earn more money than they spend on it; I'm sure they don't actually see any of that money themselves). But as far as I'm concerned, if you keep charging people and you keep teams active (development and design and QA already has to spend time with DA2 for the DLC), some of that should be translated to taking care of your existing customers instead of using it all on how to make your next buck.
And maybe that's what they're doing, and they're just overworked and/or understaffed. Who knows? (It'd be nice to hear one way or the other, at least.)
I'll buy it if they patch what is already out there. I don't buy the justification that because it's multi-platform the games/dlc cannot be patched. Someone decided to go multi-platform to grab more profits. That someone should also expect higher costs, post-release support being just one of them.
The DLC model is great for helping along such support if help is needed. If the help needed is more than that than EA needs to rethink its coffer-lining exploits at the risk of developer and customer satisfaction.

Unfortunately, I will not get to enjoy it until much later; it comes out on the day I move.
But I'm looking forward to it nonetheless.

No sir, 10 dollars for a few hours of new locations, a new story, and character and player interaction that a movie can't offer isn't that bad at all. Plus it has some replayability in it as well.

10 dollars isn't really that much when compared to a meal at a fastfood joint is around 7 dollars now, 8 if you want the I'mFat size. 10 dollars to see a lousy movie that lasts 90 minutes to two hours at best. More if you want to watch it in 3D.

If you're prepared to pay $10 for a tenth of the full game, does that mean Bioware should be charging $100 for DA2?

Definitely. It's Felicia Day.
^This. Because romping around with Felicia Day in my party, along with being able to flirt, satisfies a demand of the Qun

I understand this is the EA outcome but I have grown tired of investing repeatedly in a game I've already bought just to experience the full content. Someone said expansions are a thing of the past, probably true but this current DLC scheme is not a worthwhile replacement, I'll wait until the industry finds a better route.
For anyone who might argue the DLCs are extra content and that the core game is what I originally payed for, learn business models and the writing process. In all likelihood there is a DLC map sitting in many desks at Bioware listing out what content would be original and what is being released later in what amount and what time frame. If the DLC concept was not so financially vampiric you might have gotten a DA2 that took a bit longer to make but was a more interesting, varied, and who knows less repetitive game. I'd rather pay more up front and wait longer for a complete game than repeatedly pay for small chunks of incomplete development.
Baldurs Gate 2 was an enormous game of amazing scope, I don't think we'll ever see that level again since companies are now aware that they can get people to pay for each ACT instead of a full dynamic game in full form.
The real downside, this kind of release schedule hurts the overall game because a game released in small periodic chunks cannot be as full a game because of what has to be left out or cannot be designed based on such a system.

I have to agree with this regarding DA II.
To answer OP's original question - No, I wouldn't. Not this year, at least.

Even if the game was amazing I'm done with DLC now, buying it in the past I just realised I was part of the problem, the reason this utter rip off is still happening is because people like me payed for it in the past, that being said, I don't want others to stop paying for the rip off, keep going by all means, means when I pick up the game of the year edition a couple years down the line for under a tenner I'll get all the content the people who bought it when it was released funded.
If people do stop paying for it then that's a good situation as well, no more rip off DLC, it's win-win

Course not, DA2 got my last pennies when I got sold a duffer and bought the original game, more Dragon Age 2, no thanks.

I'm gonna keep buying it thanks cause I like fun. Also like £10 every few months for a good DLC is absolutely nothing, are you expecting them to give it away or something?

I could be Bill Gates rich and I still wouldn't pay for it any longer though, it is a rip off and it just pushes the gaming market further towards paying for smaller and smaller chunks of games.
But if you're happy paying for it, I'm happy for you, overall it only suits people like me in the long run, as I said it's win-win.

Errm there are some other compaines that give away DLCs/upgrades for free. A few but there are.
Or there are companies making DLCs usefull nearly all of the game(perks, extra levels e.t.c) not a portion of it.
And while £10 is nothing for 4-5 hours of fun you are thinking about only 1 game.
What if im playing 5 games and they are all releasing DLCs one after another so need to pay £50 total?
And add that you are playing a MMORPG for another £10 monthly.
Don't get me wrong, adding new content is always good but need to pay for each? İts nonsense and a moey trap. İn my humble opinion of course.

Simple ask the other 4 games companies to give DLC Free to you, that way you'll be able to buy DA DLC! rofl.
Or just get the free ones you mention in the post. lol!

Hey I never said that!
I know some DLC is free but I've never had anything high quality as free DLC. In the case of DA2 DLC Bioware are taking extra care to get all the voice talent back for each one, that can't be easy, write a ton of banter and dialogue, add new enviroments, tilesets, write a good story and new mechanics, not to mention all the mocap stuff they did for this DLC too. With all that effort put into it £10 is in no way a "rip-off".
