I just recruited Merrill and have experienced the "approval bug" where it is impossible to gain any approval with her.

This has happened on all my characters, so far.

To resolve the bug, you simply have to do the "Welcome Home" quest but *without* selecting the "flirt" option...

However, I want to romance Merrill later... does this mess up the questline? There seems to be no way to resolve this - reloading before Flemeth and trying again does not stop the bug...

Can I still romance Merrilll in Act 2?

What's your proof of experiencing the approval bug? If you were diplomatic initially in the Welcome Home quest, it never gives any approval for me, but I don't have approval issues anytime later.

Just flirt with her at least once in Act 2.

I've found that Humorous Hawke gains approval in the Act 1 flirt, but not the others for some reason. I've been able to gain approval with her after this, though...I've never heard of this bug.

I think it needs to be twice, but the flirtations come at a pretty decent rate.

I was/am trying to romance merrill and I'm not sure where I went wrong. I've taken all the flirtation options, I've sided with her in every dispute and gained no approval, but thought you could romance anyway. I got the questioning beliefs thread and she blasted me saying how she never wants to see me again. How do you actually romance her I can't seem to figure it out.

If she yelled that she never wants to see you again, it means that romance is triggered, but that it's the rivalry romance. Which is odd if you always sided with her. Did you give her the arulin'holm?

Anyway, I think you just need to head over to your house again and then she'll come over to apologize and confess her feelings.
