Frankly though, I blame Bioware for all this nonsense. They just had to kick the hornest's nest with all their games. It's their own damn fault that people are unhappy about it.
Why have we created a Civil War over S/S romance?????

I love how people will argue over gay or straight when it comes to a game that has this...
It's not really an argument over 'straight' as I have yet to see anyone say a male Shepard shouldn't be able to romance all of the female LIs and vice versa for a straight FemShep with the male LIs.

The problem is that SOME don't want to accept that. Some, certainly not all.

Because the first group is riddled with genuine homophobes using the pretense of tolerance as a smokescreen. They rather blur together.
I think that to some extent, you are seeing exactly what you want to see. You want people to be homophobes because it gives you the superlative moral high ground. It complements this superiority complex you've constructed around yourself so you don't have to develop a legitimate response to any argument put forth.
From what I've seen from you while you condemn bigotry and apply the term to anyone who differs in opinion, you ultimately thrive off its conception.

I don't have any sort of personal problem with the people who don't feel that way, though I do disagree with a lot of the reasons that have been put forth. There is a lot of over-reacting and trolling on all sides of the issue. I'm sure there are people who have no problems with the GLBT community who don't want old love interests to be bisexual. The problem is, some people have phrased their arguments in ways that really do sound homophobic.
That said, getting into serious arguments on the internet is fairly pointless, since there are always people who just like to fight and aren't interested in any sort of intelligent debate or discussion.

Also, I have seen some people who have problems with a LI being just gay or lesbian. I've seen people that do not want any gay in the games whatsoever. Claiming otherwise is ignoring numerous people posting really unpleasant comments.
Anyhow, I think the reason why it's such a ragey topic is that people cannot separate in-game stuff with RL. Because being gay/lesbian/bi/trans/etc is something some of us are in RL and people making it sound gross or unwanted is like being called unwanted ourselves.
And a lot of reasons for not wanting certain people being bi/gay/etc in games and not wanting the content at all and not wanting others to have the option....those reasons usually run along lines of "gay is icky" in some fomr or another.

I am one of the people who wants all the LI's to be available for either gender for the same reasons others have stated. The characters from the first two games are the characters I came to love, and I feel that having a last minute love interest would be less interesting/meaningful than Shepard finally getting together with someone they've always been close to. It would also (to me anyhow) be a nice throwback to the fact that several of them (Ashley, Kaiden, Tali, etc...) WERE originally intended to be available for both genders.
