I'm a big fan of RPGs, and have been playing them as long as I remember. I've always found gore to be a severe turn off in a game, and was considering buying Dragon Age: Origins for either PC or PS3.

Is there a way to get rid of the gore, without resorting to mods?

If I need to use a mod, please post one.

Should I get it on PC or PS3? (reasons other than mods, please)

Thanks

You can try this. I don't know if it'll work with whatever patch you are on, but it will lessen blood splatter on your characters.

I don't think there's a mod that removes decapitations and melee finisher moves, though. If it bothers you, the gruesome endings to monsters and people only happen when a melee character is the last person to hit it. If you kill them with a spell, you are spared the gore.

As for cutscenes, you're screwed. :I

Edit: Nevermind, apparently you can do the above.

I'm sorry, I don't need to cut the heads off things, hear them squeal in pain, and drink their blood (in a virtual world, especially) to feel like a man.

I don't mind it in cutscenes, it's just when everything seems to explode in a pile of blood (FO3) that I get annoyed.

Again, are these settings possible to change on PC and PS3? Remember, I don't have the game yet and I'm trying to figure out which system to buy it on.

I have to warn you though... Whenever I see things die like that, I don't even flinch and remain relatively un-phased, but other parts of the game have left me a bit squeamish.

I don't know how much the non-gore option changes, but I thought I'd tell you.

Edit: I just read the in-game option to turn off Gore, which I believe is the same as changing the text file. This is for PC.

Enable persistent gore: [   ]

"Determines whether battle covers a character in blood and gore that remains in place until the next change in armor or clothing. Blood effects in combat remain either way."

So... I don't think it removes the stuff in combat, just the blood.

There is no doubt that the game is bloody, but it certainly doesn't have the same effects as FO3. People's heads don't come off, limbs are not separated from bodies, etc. The characters get an ample dose of blood during combat, but it is mostly just aesthetic and I don't think it should be that much of a turn off. There is a spell that causes enemies to explode in a shower of blood, but you don't see any dismemberment or anything. It sounds like you can turn this off anyway.

And, if you have the machine to run it, definitely get the game on the PC. From the reviews I have read, Dragon Age: Origins is a much better, more complete experience on PC. Not that it is bad on the consoles, it just doesn't have the same finess, interface, controls, or graphics as the PC does.

Thanks, Sak.

It's not that I'm overly-squeamish, I just find it very tiresome.

Like in FO3 how, if you built an even mildly decent character you could, starting at level one, reduce every enemy's face to goo, ashes, or apple sauce.

Do you think 4 CPUs running at 2.6 GHz would be enough to run it? (ATI Radeon graphics processor, for dedicated gaming use)

Oh, it's not excessive. Melee characters will decapitate people on occasion, though I don't really pay attention, so they might do it more often. Against monsters, you have God of War-type deaths, where they'll jump on large monsters and stab them or something.

You're not beating things to a pulp, no. I would go with PC, because there's more support for it, in terms of mods and such.

I don't really know much about computers. I have a Core 2 Duo @ 3.0 ghz and a 9800 GTX. On the maximum settings, I've only lagged in one of the major cities, which is most likely due to a lot of glow effects in the same place, because I don't lag anywhere except for on a short bridge.

Your processor is better than mine, so it should be fine.

in all seriousness there is not even that much gore in this game, sure there is blood when you pull off a finishing move on stuff but not that much.

This is certainly the most condescending forum I've ever been on.

I'm sick of just getting written off like this.

Fuk yourselves.
