I gave a read to this topic, and I'm appalled by the stupidity of some replies here.

I admit that Dragon Age is Dragon Age, and saying that gore is a turn-off in a game with such a dark, moody medieval setting, is slightly silly - since it's part of the game world itself. But, mind you, while it's silly, it's NOT completely idiotic. Because if all what is good in a rpg is the amount of entrails and tomato juice splattered on the screen, then the rpg in question would suck. So the thread starter made a legit question, because he knows that there's so much more in Dragon Age apart from the violence, that he knows he will be able to enjoy the game without it, if that suits his tastes better.

And yet some people went all condiscending, going by the assumption that a game is cool if it has blood and gore. "Oh, I played the Russian mission on MW2 twice because I am so hardcore". No, you played it twice because you're a teenage moron who needs to show he's soooo grown-up. That mission was way too easy since for a good part of it you shoot targets that don't defend themselves nor attack you; so if you liked MW2 for the game's own quality, the most challenging and rewarding missions are the ones you should replay.

Remember, guys, people who praise too much the amount of violence in a videogame are showing to be a lot more immature than those who complain against it.

I like the gore in Dragon Age, since I find it very fitting. But if I were to talk someone about that game, I would probably even forget to mention that it has gore in it. Since it's surely not the key element of the game, unless we forget about the plot and the gameplay and the characters and the strategy and the soundtrack.... and we call it "the game which has sex and violence LOLOLOL ITS SO HARDCORE".

In which case, those same comical-looking splashes of red could simply be ignored and not seen as anything but the background trees. Really, there is no reason to do without, but if someone wants to do without, it's their choice.

But saying that it is not needed, is like saying you don't need character models either. You could simply read a book about the game instead.

I think a sanitized game with no blood whatsoever would end up looking strange -but not, IMO, as strange as the fountains of blood the game has right now.

I don't say that because I'm squeamish - in fact, I had worked with blood for years (infected with HIV, parasites, malaria, tuberculosis, and more) and these days I routinely kill lab rats as part of research protocol. (decapitation to kill instantly without using any contaminating pharmaceuticals, followed by brain extraction and dissection)

Far from grossing me out, the blood in DAO alternately amuses and irritates me because of how over the top it is, and how completly at odds it ends up being with the generally serious tone of the game. It's like someone got their "GWAR" concert in my Bioware RPG.

Fortunately, turning off "persistent gore" gets rid of the worst of it.

The blood that oozes out of people on the floor looks like ketchup. Not like ketchup in the game, but you spilled ketchup on your screen.

I think it mostly looks off because it has a drop shadow.

Gore kills the game. I like a little (like oblivion amounts, or slightly more) but in a lot of games (one of them being gears of war 2) the blood detail just doesn't reach the level of detail in the rest of the game.

I think this is a situation where the small number of people who chose to flame me are simply fore prolific then the vast majority, which seems to have, at least, taken the time to consider what I'm saying rather than simply regurgitating jokes about Wiis.

OP you should have posted in the tech support forums. The people on this forum, or any internet forum, are all mostly brain dead.

I play this game with full gore settings, and would really like to see a mod come out that gives more gore, so far we only have blood splatters, no real dismemberment :(. But you guys need to ****ing chill out, the OP plays his video games different then you, you do not need to bash on him for no reason, it makes you look like a huge ****ing tool.

The OP isn't complaining , he is simply asking if you can turn off gore.   Stop acting like a douchebag.

You are absolutely right.  There was no need to give the OP grief over his question.  Some people look for any little thing about which to be negative.

The whole point of griefing him is that it doesn't make sense to buy a "dark heroic fantasy" game and then say you're turned off by the gore. Anyone that thinks gore in a dark game with mature themes is "juvenile, gratuitous and absurd" should just **** off and go buy a Wii.

If I bought Grand Theft Auto and then asked if there were an option to not kill anyone or use guns I would probably be flamed. Granted, he's not complaining about the violence, but if this is an issue you're better suited avoiding these kinds of titles altogether.

He stated an opinion.  He can do that just like you and I stated our opinions.  There is no need for someone to be hateful about it....I am suggesting that someimes on these forums you have people who look for commits like his just so they can hack on the person who wrote them.  Otherwise, to you it may not make sense to buy a dark heroic fantasy and be turned off by gore....but so what?  If he's turned off by gore and wants to turn it off what's the harm in that?  Is it any of our business why he buys the games he buys or likes what he likes......why is this even an issue that demanded discussion...he asked a question...yes or no....if yes, an explanation...if no.....on to the next thing.
