Hello!

Yesterday i was recording yet another Improved Ust Natha video, when things suddenly went horribly wrong!
Can a single party member be the cause of the destruction of all his companions?
Has Boo convinced Minsc to backstab us.. with a flail to the head?
And of course : Why, Minsc? WHY!?!

You can find the video showing this glorious turn of events here!

Index of Shortcuts :
The fun begins at 0:36:30
It only get's better at 0:40:27, when Minsc seals our fate.
Not to mention his last deed of "Great Fun" at 0:52:00!

Don't go berserk kids, it's not healthy!

Regards ^_^

Nice video ^^.
I had my experiences with Minsc as well, so nowadays I seldom use him.

Hah. I remember trying to beat this battle once, and even though I had one character capable of 9th level spells (including a Planetar), I still couldn't kill the drow fast enough and eventually I CTD'd.

You may, of course, already know this, but since the video narration implies you don't: Minsc's rage is... special. When you enrage him, he gains his bonuses and remains controllable just like a Berserker, but when he engages an enemy, he goes uncontrollable. If he kills everyone around him, he'll go green-circle again even if his rage hasn't ended, but as long as there are still characters near him after he kills someone, he will remain crazy and pick a new target randomly.

So it's a good idea not to have your other people too close to him while he's in one of his states.

(Also, I'm not sure Minsc's rage even protects him against imprisonment.)

It sort of protects him. Meaning it doesn't, but not every enemy knows that.

Aye, i've realized the imprisonment mistake once we've stopped recording. Aside from one or two other mistakes.
I believe it may still protect Minsc from some lesser forms of CC. Mainly stun. (And this was the reason for Enrage in the first place)

As for the party itself, i've built it this way exactly cause of the hostility between Edwin and Minsc, as well as Keldorn and Vici. All that the party lacked was Anomen, who fails his quest, for a total "Zero team-work" party. Part of the challenge! I'm actually mentioning it a few minutes in!

But Minsc is the thread target, good folks, not the Siege itself :)
The damn rodent-loving nutbar!

Edit : Although if someone knows the exact mechanics behind Minsc Enrage, share them, and i shall name my fifth daughter after Thee.

I believe Minsc's head wound rage does prevent Chaos, Confusion, Hold and such, yes.

It's a powerful enough ability, especially in the early game, but as you found, a bit risky to use.

But if I have him in my party, he's the most likely character to get Dire Charmed unless I give him a Helmet of Charm Protection. Again, that means him going after the party members - he makes a habit of not being able to distinguish friend from foe... how does he manage to notice a tiny hamster with such poor perception powers?

Boo is safe, because Minsc is still holding him in where he did when Irenicus men captured him.
This could also explain why Minsc is even having enrage. Little Boo doing some scratching here and there is sure to drive people nuts, causing them to ignore enemies and zero in on the party members, relentlessly hunting them across the screen. ^_^

Fear not for Boo. If you ever add the mod where Boo gets abducted, you will find his absence has a severe strength impact on Minsc. Space Hamsters may be tiny, but are strong as raw horseradish.

If I recall correctly, berserk only protects against Imprisonment if the person going berserk has a +4 weapon or better, but I could be wrong on that.

What? No. It doesn't have anything to do with what weapon the berserker is wielding. Minsc just has a different (worse) berserk ability from actual Berserkers.

Maybe you're confusing this with the requirements for the Kangaxx fight? You need protection from imprisonment and weapons +4.
