Right, I'm looking to start a new BG2 through to ToB game.
I recently played through Tutu with a Fighter dualled Avenger which was fun, although I don't know if I want to carry him on into BG2

classes I've played all the way to ToB are Skald, Mage/Thief, Fighter/Thief, Fighter>Assassin and Cleric/Mage.
I'm looking for something different but I can't seem to place my finger on what exactly.
I did try a pure Swashbuckler, this time trying to avoid dual-wielding and actually using a buckler as the kit name suggests. And he was totally rubbish, 1 attack per round, no thanks. Surely the Swashbuckler should get some form of bonus for actually using a buckler. Otherwise they may just rename them to Swashdualwielder.

I don't want to play any good aligned characters, the way I play the game just wouldn't let me play a good guy. So no Paladins, Rangers or Ranger/Clerics please, they'd only become Fallen.

I'm contemplating the Monk or Barbarian, I've had no experience with either, both PC and NPC (I did make Valygar one recently but that was the standard Monk, not the revised Monk from Sword & Fist which looks more durable and balanced). And I never play plain Fighter types, normally leave that to Korgan.

Or perhaprs the Jester, I've only dabbled with the Jester before (Xzar) and I think I quite enjoyed it, but I don't know the longevity of playing one. I like the idea of a Bard, but I find they have too many skills in which neither really excell. Having said that, I really enjoyed playing a Skald. And I'm not interested in playing a Blade, they bore me for some reason, might be the hype they get from this board.

I like casting spells and normally amass a team where nearly all characters can cast some form of spell.
I tried recently to take along all the good aligned NPCs I never normally have (Keldorn, Mazzy, Minsc and Aerie) but I just found the banter boring and the moment Keldorn voiced his opinion about Vicionia at the stake, I just had to stop. (Actually kill Keldorn first, then stop)

As you can tell I like Viciona, recently I've been making her into a Cleric/Mage which has been fun but something I've never really gone ahead with. I usually take along Jaheira and Edwin too, and on occasion Yoshimo, Nalia and Anomen. Never really played Haer'Dalis although I like his characters, but once again, he's a Blade. I tried him as a Swashbuckler and he was pretty lame. I also like Cernd but again he sucks big time, I always mod him into a Totemic Druid because that seems closer to his characters than Shapershifter, but he still sucks. I almost always romance Viconia too and I think a Monk or Barbarian would fit the romance in role playing terms.

Please help ...

If you like using magic, why don't you try Sorcerer? With Edwin you would have the arcane side of thing really sewn up. Add Korgan and Viconia to your core group, and encourage Anomen to take revenge for his sister, and you have an evil five strong in 2 forms of magic. If you are willing to keep on paying to keep your Rep at 10 or 11, you can jolly Jaheira to hang around for druidic magic. And of course there's a number of evil mods if you want more muscle.

I would argue that a duel wielding half-elf or elf (dex=19 as a life preserver) swashie is a fun way to go. You don't have to waste a slot on a thief, and the challenge in staying alive until you can get some dragon armor makes it an interesting run. But, chacon son gaut.

If you don't keep your reputation up, Anomen is going to leave too, of course.

How about installing the aTweaks component for improved spell scroll scribing and then starting up a Cleric/Thief? It's a difficult but interesting combination - and besides the necessity for one mage (to bestow upon you all the required scrolls of SI and Stoneskin (sorry, I can't abbreviate stuff to SS) etc) you are pretty much free to take along whomever you wish, since you are tank, healer, damage dealer or thief - whatever the situation requires.

I never played a Sorcerer myself but have had Nalia and Edwin as Sorcerers in the past, both in my team at the same time actually, I then went on to complete the game with them in it.

I've done the Viconia/Edwin/Korgan team before, basically the best team ever. And yeah the addition of a fallen Anomen and Jaheira would be good. Decisions decisions.

I'm thinking of playing a Monk, since I've never been one. Then probably making Jaheira a Ranger, Viconia a Cleric/Mage and Haer'Dalis a Fighter/Mage ... or should I just suck it up and keep him as a Blade? I suppose they're more or less the same thing but with different bonuses.
I'll have Yoshimo as my Thief until Spellhold ... ahem ... then swap in Imoen as a Swashbuckler dualled Mage ... I've never actually taken Imoen along, so I think I probably should do this time round.
Also I can never really use Yoshimo that well and I don't know why, I might adjust his stats so he can actually lay traps.

Now a Cleric/Thief I hadn't thought of!
Luckilly I already have aTweaks installed with the scribe scroll component too.

Ugh too many possibilities.

But if Anomen is evil, does he still have such a tender conscience? I've never played him that way, so I don't know. If true, sounds like one more bug in the game?

He doesn't actually turn evil, just Chaotic Neutral right?

I don't know. I only went the revenge route once, and then didn't look for him after he flunked his knighthood test. Since he goes from LN to LG if he passes, I assumed he went from LN to LE if he flunked. If it's LN to CN, that's just one more example of him being Annoyingman.

Right I finally settled on a group and am really enjoying myself

PC - Swashbuckler - dual wielding short swords
Korgan - Berserker - axe and shield to later dual wield
Viconia - Cleric - sling and shield
Haer'Dalis - Skald - shortbow
Edwin - Sorcerer - crossbow
Cernd - Shapeshifter - CLAWS!

I think this may actually be the first time I've played with a team of pure classes. I have every angle covered.
The Edwin/Korgan/Viconia trio goes without saying, but with the addition of Haer'Dalis and Cernd, this group are really quite formidable.
