Hah. Just noticed Two Worlds II is mocking me today by releasing a Pirate themed expansion.
Doubly funny, the DLC includes Horse armor.
So how is Two Worlds II?

They talked alot about the lush sceneries, the freedom to make a character of your own choosing (who sounds like a knob by the way) that isnt restricted to a class but can merge magic with archery or melee.
I started the game after having played The Witcher 2 Seven times through...to me it seemed like gong from dining at Claridge's to having a happy meal at McDonalds.

The interface I'm still not fond of, and horse riding is still miserable, but between the patches and figuring out a few things I missed prior I'm enjoying it more than I did. Still not sure I'd reccomend it just yet, but its improved.
Still, my next quest involves winning some horse race to become a mayor and prevent a famine. This can only end in tears.

This thread and seeing there was a Pirate expansion got me to dust off this game again today and see if I was judging it a little harshly. It seems there had been a few patches since then, so it now runs much smoother and in DX10. Looks better too.

Hooray! Glad it's not a total loss, then. Are you going to get the pirate expansion?

Uh-oh. Make sure you don't use the heavy horse for that. Even on console, it's almost impossible to do that one with the default, because it won't get fast enough to win. At least, that was my experience with it. And why I remember that, I have no idea.

Like people have said, characters are unlikable, dialogue is funny (some is intentionally funny though) and the story isn't exactly Bioware material but the crafting, environments and combat are great. Some quests are also quite interesting and some are actually pretty well written. So if you're looking for an open world RPG that has good combat, Two Worlds 2 is for you. It has flaws admittedly but it's no where near as frustrating as Oblivion or Gothic 3 IMO...well there is some dialogue that is frustrating to listen too...the librarian in the Mage's Guild is the prime example:
Heelllloooooo....I...am....the...libra...rian. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEElllllllllcommmmmmmme....ttoooOOOooo...the...Ma..........ge's....Guillllldddd!!!

Horse riding was rubbish in Two Worlds 2? You can't turn? What? It's EASY! I think someone got confused with Two Worlds 1 where horse riding was atrocious before the patch. Then again, I'm playing on the 360, so it might be different on the PC?
Yeah, they're referring to the PC version (in most cases?). I didn't have any issues on the 360 either, except I thought the heavy horse was way too slow.

Horse riding is terrible on the PC. Trust me on this. There are many games that do horses just fine, but this isn't one of them. Having said that, I did finally manage to win that damn Rustler Run on the Heavy Horse (Didn't know there was another horse option!). I think the DX10 upgrade helped here. Much less lagging. Though getting knocked off my horse by a monkey throwing poo didn't help any. *grumble*

Hahaha, that's awesome. I hate those stupid baboons, but I'm glad to hear you kicked that race's arse. I never did beat that in my one and only playthrough.
Hmm. The TW2 wiki kinda sucks. In regard to horses, it says:
"In Two Worlds II, there are many different species of horses with a variety of armor and sachels that you may get for your horse. In addition, horses can be used as mobile chests for carrying excess items. Although horses are the second quickest way to travel, they are amongst other species of mounts that are of the same speed."

The only thing I really dislike is the pickpocket minigame. I don't know how it is on console, but on PC it's extremely rage inducing.

There's interface mods? I should look into that. I was looking forward to pickpocketing but couldn't find the skillbook for it. Now, not so much. Bleh.

Lockpicking was fun. I also got quite good at it. After you get a few under your belt, you can pretty much do them in your sleep.
I never really pickpocketed much. When you play multiplayer, you start in some of the towns from the main campaign, which come with built-in city guards. I've seen people pickpocket them, then kill them and loot their bodies. From what I understand, you can get some decent equipment from them.
Now that I think about it, some random guy in a room I was in offered me a trade and I ended up with like half a million bucks, and some change. That made the game much easier from that point on. Oh, and you can create your own town. I'd forgotten about all of that stuff!

I believe it's called Village Mode. Now that I'm talking about it, I hope it's available on PC (crossing fingers).
Edit: On a sidenote, you have to be really careful with your finances, as well as supply and demand, because you have to have enough food for your residents; and without the quests being resolved, your people can get really cranky, and you can lose a bunch of money. Overall, it's really expensive, but if you get gifted a large sum of cash like I was, you don't really have to ever worry about it.
Here's a video, to give you an idea of what it looks like.

I remember thinking at one point, "that looks close, I'll just swim there." Twenty minutes later, I was still trying to swim back to where I started, since I couldn't actually reach where I was trying to go anyway. It would have been faster to just load a save, I think. If memory serves, I think I was trying to get around a walled location that ended up being WAY bigger than I anticipated.

The boats are really just little sailboats; nothing suitable for the high seas.
And P.S. Did you get the expansion yet? I'm curious to know how it is.

Not yet. But I'm considering adding it onto my Lonesome Road purchase from Steam when I get around to it. Looks like the expansion takes place after the main story so might as well finish that first.

Makes sense.
I see that TWI is also putting out a Two Worlds II GOTY edition. In velvet!
TWII: Velvet Edition coming this October!
+++ Including the expansion Pirates of the Flying Fortress +++
TopWare Interactive is releasing the Two Worlds II: Velvet GOTY Edition this October 18th and they are doing so with glamorous class! The TWII: Velvet GOTY Edition not only comes bundled with the sought after expansion Pirates of the Flying Fortress, but is also uniquely designed in a limited collector's box which is wrapped in black velvet (PC/Mac) or red velvet (console versions) and highlighted with metal corners made to look like antique brass. Moreover, there is a bold relief TWII logo of the same real metal at the top of the box. Along with the multi-lingual version of TWII, this collector's item also comes with all of the up-to- date upgrades. Additional extras include a huge double-sided world map and a valuable pirate head pin collectable, which subsequently is also available in-game! This exclusive item actually boosts the player's parameters if hefted to armor! Together with another bonus disc containing artwork, wallpaper, videos, an extended soundtrack and two additional PvP multiplayer maps. More Antaloor simply isn't possible!

Did you play Two Worlds 1? I've said it before, but the PC's "Mayhap. Mayhap indeed." was quite laughable. You really must hear it to believe it, if you haven't already.
