Of all the annoying boss fights I've had to endure this has got to be the worst. Was this a plot by Bioware to advertise the bad pathfinding A.I.? Even if I pause the game and give them all individual commands they still manage to bump into each other. Should I just let everyone die and have Anders revive them at the beginning of each round?

Set the AI to defensive and select the whole party when moving.

Just keep your group together and move them as one. Also, toggle hold position as needed so they don't run off.

It works well until one of them suddenly decides they want to go the other way instead. That's when you need to be quick on the pause button.

Initially I thought fire = bad. I spent 30 minutes running around the boss dragging adds AND controlling the party to navigate through the rocks was a nightmare.
It is not that bad once you realise the fire AOE doesn't do THAT much damage. The key is to run through the fire and get healed by the adds.
It was probably bad design on the encounter. The AOE should be lethal and much more slower so players won't have to rip their hair out to try to avoid the flames. Killing demons and it heals you for a fat chunk makes no sense.

ctrl + a, h, spam right click to move the entire group 1 inch at a time. At least he didn't teleport across the map and spawn adds.

If you move slowly and walk behind the wall of fire, you'll have plenty of time to go around the stone walls without the fire catching up to you. Your companions will stay close to you and follow better as long as everyone is together. When you run, the party tends to spread apart and everyone is left to find their own path through a given area.
It also doesn't hurt to have fire resist runes on your armor for when you are fighting the shades in the alcoves and can't avoid the fire. One fire resist rune can give most of your companions around 90% fire resistance.
Btw, you don't have to drag any "adds" anywhere. When I summon them in the alcove, I kill them and then move onto the next alcove, waiting to the fire to pass and then walk slowly around the rock walls so the party doesn't get spread apart and companions stuck behind the wallls.

The A.I. pathing during this fight isn't so bad as long as you do not get too far ahead of your party, though Aveline has a nasty habit of trying to go, literally, through the rocks (at least I noticed it happened in my playthroughs lol).

Seems like you can "hide" in the alcoves corner to avoid most of the fire damage. I just ran around freed all demons then killed them all in the last alcove!

The fire does more damage, the closer you are to Corypheus. Since you can't completely avoid it, it's best to be in the alcoves when it hits you, then closely follow it around.
Playing on a console isn't hard at all.. There were far tougher boss battles in the main game. This particular boss fight simply had puzzle elements thrown in, and so people had to stop and think, rather than just attack this battle the same way they have during the other boss battles.
