I wouldn't be surprised if a co-op/multiplayer component in ME3 would be akin to 'Cerberus network' for ME3 forming part of EA's 'project $10'/'online pass'.

If this was the case only new retail copies would have access codes to 'killer content' and those who buy used copies would have to pay an extra $10-$15 on xbox live/psn/origin to download.

Also, if the post release downloadable content was largely focused on enhancing the online modes that would get around both the 'mute' squadmate issue and the difficulty providing downloadable content for a game with 'hopefully' difinitive and highly variable endings.

Yeah, how dare those ****s be upset that a game trilogy they enjoyed is being turned into a flashy gimmick?

Overreacting much?

Or pre-orders cancelled, letters sent out to BW stating they sold out, and maybe mass suicide from the RPG-fanatics.

On a side note, there seem to be way too many pseudo-hipsters in this thread.

Welcome to the majority of BSN.

And the majority of every single gaming website's forums.

I suppose. You should see the people on the Escapist's forums. They make the BSN look tame and restrained.

It's an extremely stupid argument.  People make it seem like the budget for the game was set in stone long ago and that multiplayer would come out of that budget instead of say EA just raising the budget to include a multiplayer option.  I mean it's not like EA is extremely short of cash and compared to TOR, any sort of budget increase would be a drop in the ocean.

The bigger issue would be developer time and Montreal would lessen that.

It's not a matter of timing or seperate budgeting. Resources are used to make MEM (multiplayer). Those resources (be it time, man power, or money) did not go into MESP (the "main game") exclusively. People don't like that, and never will like that, if they are biased againt multiplayer. Regardless of if the budget was raised to compensate or if multiplayer shares a lot of assets with singleplayer, purists will assign blame of any poorly executed facet of the game--no matter how small--on the fact that time was spent on a feature unwanted to them.

I wouldn't call it a stupid argument. I would call it ignorance in general.

Hell there could have been assests and improvements done on the multiplayer side that the main game implemented such as improved recoil feedback from the guns or artistic assets.  It's really impossible to predict how these things will turn out.

Now as I said, the more important question is whether Montreal is up to it.  Visceral tried a similar approach with DS2 and the multiplayer flopped.

Or I'm pulling out the watercress sandwiches, assorted teas, a picnic basket, and a wonderful place for us to sit while I politely tell Bioware that that is so unnecessary.

Name one game with multiplayer that didn't have multiplayer achievements.

Dead Space 2, and that's an EA-published game.

Try again.

More like an educated guess.

It will be pretty f***ing sad if confirmation of MP is the first solid news we've had on ME3 in ages.

Just a thought - if Bioware feels that ME3's gameplay is good enough to work in MP, of any kind, that implies that the gameplay has been substantially improved since ME2. This is a good thing.

This is what i hate! People just take a new idea and make it out to be bad with out even hearing the details, trying it out or even wait until any actual confirmation of the ideas existance. People should realy give things a chance, you never know maybe this will turn out to be a good thing.

"Sold-out" Such an over used term and completely ridiculous.

They're a business. They are trying to make money. They have to do things sometimes that some people won't like. Geez.

At this rate they'll add MP even to solitaire games... Thx for messing up the things EA, and also thx to Bioware for ignoring the fans.

how is it stupid when neither ME1 or 2 had MP

There's lots of stuff ME1 and ME2 didn't have that's in ME3, like the Omniblade, and rail shooting, and weapon mods.
It's stupid because your argument is a blanket one against all innovation, not just ones you don't like or don't appreciate.

never ceases to maze me just how dumb people can be, how they cant even read properly or understand english.....what part of ME is a SP game and doesnt need MP dont you get?
Geez, how long have you been gaming? a year or two? You obviously dont have a clue

If the question is aimed to Shorts, I have in good faith it's been since the early nineties at the very least.

Yes.  I hope it comes on its own disc.  I need a new coaster.  If it doesn't mess w/ the SP experience, fine.  If not it really will be ther Star Wars of gaming, as the third intallment will suck.

The difference in this case is that they're advertising an interview with Casey Hudson specifically about multiplayer.  That's in stark contrast to previous MP stories, where the source was something like "Someone said so on some NeoGAF thread."

Untrue. Previous MP rumors came from various sources, such as CVG, Joystiq, Eurogamer, EA's own job ads (multiplayer programists & testers at BioWare Montreal), South African retailer etc. So no, this wasn't a year of "someone at Gaf said something", it was a year of thick black smoke leaking through every crack of the gaming industry. Many thourght there had to be a fire somewhere with this much smoke, most stayed in denial.
