Well well... just read the news on Gamespot and I'm sad. If the single player experience remains untouched in terms of quality even with the addon of multiplayer, than fine. If the single player experience lacks, I'll be extremely frustrated.

We all love Mass Effect for what it is. A magnificent single player story experience. We are now at the end of a trilogy, which is expected to be the best of all. After DA2, they really need to not screw up the conclusion.

How come so many people seem to lose control of their sphincter at the inclusion of multiplayer? It's not like anyone will hold a gun to your head and force you to play it. If you don't care for it, stick to the single player experience. That's what I'm going to do.

Because the single-player experience will suffer due to resources being diverted to multiplayer.

You don't know this. Its all speculation.

Looks like Bioware wasn't joking when they said they want the Call of Duty audience. I am disappointed in you Bioware. SURELY they knew their fanbase would react like this? Are they really that out of touch with their fans?

This board is a small portion of their fanbase. In reality, they make their decisions based on research not online forum chatter.

To be fair the board is the hardcore fans of Bioware, the ones that they need to keep to truly continue being a success. Dragon Age 2 shows this as the forum was not happy and the game did not do that well excluding the pre-orders.

This. Co-op is lame. I want to destroy people.

Portal 2 was co-op, not competitive multiplayer. We all know that competitve multiplayer will be exactly like any of the other half-ass singleplayer/multiplayer-hybrids. They are not going to create a revolutionary experience with this, so there's no excuse.

I hope they go in a direction with MP similar to what Ubisoft did with Assassins Creed. People didn't think MP would work in that game at all, and it actually ended up being very unique and fun and fitting with the game.

I'm just worried because I think MP in any form does not jive with the strengths of Mass Effect. Even though combat was improved in 2, its still no where close to something like Gears or Halo. The strengths of Mass Effect...story, characters, atmosphere, soundtrack, dialogue...simply do not translate to multiplayer.

I just don't see any way it can work, and even if they do figure something clever out, who's going to play it? They aren't going to see huge MP numbers. People don't buy Mass Effect for its action, they buy it for the story and single player experience. If there's MP in ME3, why should I play it when I have Gears 3 (a near perfect MP experience, thanks to years of polish and established, fun gameplay)?

Introducing MP into ME3 just seems like a forced move to me. Does BW really want this? Is this what they envisioned when they were in pre-production for ME1? BW has zero track record in making MP games. They're just starting to figure out how to make a half decent shooter than is controllable and coherent. ME3 is probably the biggest, most anticipated game BW has ever made. Multiplayer seems like an unneccessary addition that could bog down valuable resources.

I disagree

The industry is moving too fast, unnecessary changes are destroying franchises to fall in line with the medium. I can name you dozens of games that have been wrecked over the last few years because of the need to make them like "LOL PWN CALL OF DUTY XDDDD QUICKSC0P3Z!!!11".

Humanity is moving too fast, unnecessary changes are destroying livelyhoods to fall in line with the times. I can name you a dozen of professions that have been wrecked over the last century because of the need to make them like "LOL MACHINES PWN XDDDD AUTOMAT10N!!!11"

Where you even around the PS era when for every good game we had 5 **** ones? When one franchise falls another one rises to take its place. For every COD we get a Painkiller, Hard Reset, Borderlands. For every DA2 (liked the story, hated the gameplay) we get a Witcher 2, DA:Origins, FO:NV. For every C&C4 we get a DOW2, SC2. Fear not for things always level out eventually. The weak die while the innovative survive.

You're assuming EA would throw all the extra money at SP developement if MP didn't exist. I say it's a rather debatable assumption.

Then go play a competitive game. God damn, it's like you people need to taint everything you touch. I don't expect Call of Duty or Counter-strike to be amazing singleplayer experiences, do I? Stop doing the opposite here.

Define "you people."

Rabid pvp'ers who care more about "destroying" other players than they do about a good story.

And this comes from a long-time pvp'er, but I've spent enough time amongst pvp that I know that story and single-player ALWAYS suffers when pvp becomes a factor, because it inevitably becomes the focus.

Cancelled my pre-order CE. I'll pick it up used, thanks. If I want pvp, I'll go play Galaxies or SWTOR(when it's out).

I agree with your two first sentences, but not the third. Seriously, we don't know much.

Percentage wise, the number of people who post on this forum is statistically insignificant when compared to the number of sales. To base all marketing and product creation on such a small number would be suicidal to any competitive gaming company. They are out to make money, not pander to the smallest common denominator.

Funny to see so much rage over speculation. I already have Mass Effect 3 pre-ordered so IF competitive multiplayer is present then great and if not I won't care. I'll enjoy the game regardless.

I think the rage stems from the fact Bioware is caught up in trends. I'm not interested in MMO's, and I could care less about multiplayer. ME3 might be the last Bioware game I buy because they aren't interested in making good single player games anymore. They pretty much trashed DA...

Agreed--that's precisely what I did with Dead Space 2 and BioShock 2. I'll just hope it doesn't affect the story mode in any noticeable way, and preferably with no achievements.

Now that I think about it: DA3 will very likely have MP.

? ... you mean cause 2 characters take up an entire BR Disk? Oh wait...
Because EA the biggest Plublisher/ Dev cant afford... Oh wait... ?
Because Bioware is now a 4 man indie developer... Oh wait... ?

Sarcasm, man.

Please tell me you aren't so socially inept that you couldn't tell what that was.

Actually they did its even in the confirmed features thread with a direct link to a dev quote.

Actually, that link is to a GameFAQs post that summarizes the Game Informer article and claims MP was solidly disconfirmed.  Now, I've read that article.  Wanna know what it really said?  OK, here you go:

"As a single-player experience, and just as a world that people want to immerse themselves in and share, we've been trying to think of a way that makes sense that makes sense for people to experience Mass Effect with their friends," says executive producer Casey Hudson. "We haven't yet come up with a way to do that, so we don't have anything to announce at this time. But, obviously, multiplayer is something we want to do more of in the future as a company."

Looking back, that (bolded for your convenience) wording really ought to have raised far more red flags in the anti-MP crowd than it did. Understandably enough, however, people heard what they wanted to.

really you just contradicted yourself. brohood shorten their SP just to slap on that horrid MP, which is exactly like COD-clone, oh wow no shooting, but still stabbing.

The thing that ticks me off is that this smacks of multiplayer just being decided near the end or in the middle of the project, I'd rather them have intended it since the beginning so it's at least good.

I wasn't replying to that, I was repyling to you in regards to saying that everyone who wants MP wants a shooter-fest, which is clearly wrong. I'd like to see co-op in ME3, something like Portal 2 or Journey. Maybe Bioware will be able to make something new and unique, maybe not. I'm willing to give them a chance.
