maybe they just use Battlefield 3 and put Sheploo heads on blue team and councilor Velarn heads on red team.

Actually they did, in the ME3 Game Informer article, April edition.  It was clearly stated that there woudl be no MP in ME3, that they where doing it for future titles and games.

Personally I don't care either way.

A lot of time has passed since April.

Either abide by the Site Rules or this topic gets shut down, Chris Priestly already provided the only warning several pages back.

The thing that ticks me off is that this smacks of multiplayer just being decided near the end or in the middle of the project, I'd rather them have intended it since the beginning so it's at least good.

They may have wanted it from the start but felt that the gameplay wasn't up to scratch - gameplay in ME1 wasn't anywhere near smooth enough for any kind of MP, and ME2's gameplay still wouldn't have quite been good enough. Bioware may have wanted this from the start but until now didn't have the gameplay to back it up.

If I recall, Bioware said they were always looking for a way MP could work in Mass Effect.

Looking back, that (bolded for your convenience) wording really ought to have raised far more red flags in the anti-MP crowd than it did. Understandably enough, however, people heard what they wanted to.

Actually it did raised many red flags, along with other 'dodge the potato!' answers from BioWare regarding MP in ME3 ^_^

Because Bioware is now a 4 man indie developer... Oh wait... ?

Sarcasm, man.

Please tell me you aren't so socially inept that you couldn't tell what that was.

Ah, the irony.

I'm not happy if this really is confirmed that ME3 is having MP in it.

For every DA2 (liked the story, hated the gameplay) we get a Witcher 2, DA:Origins, FO:NV. For every C&C4 we get a DOW2, SC2. Fear not for things always level out eventually. The weak die while the innovative survive.

And yet we see less and less of those games every day. In fact, knowing that these games can be converted into shoddy COD clones is exactly why I don't like when people say "LOL PVP LETS PWN SOME N00BS". They know that people (who already will defend anything from said developer) will take in their garbage, regardless of how much it shifts. They feel that they need to play the game because it's made by them. SC2 is actually a perfect example of a game going downhill. Look what Activision has down to Blizzard with Battlenet, pricing, DRM, etc. The same thing is what EA has done to Bioware and countless other studios.

Not good enough? Look at Hitman: Absolution (there was a demo on Machinma today actually). It's Splinter Cell: Conviction with costumes. A big shoot-em'-up, nothing like Hitman used to be and why it was so unique. Gaming is just becoming a big melting pot of half-ass RPGs and shooters.

Funny to see so much rage over speculation. I already have Mass Effect 3 pre-ordered so IF competitive multiplayer is present then great and if not I won't care. I'll enjoy the game regardless.

I think the rage stems from the fact Bioware is caught up in trends. I'm not interested in MMO's, and I could care less about multiplayer. ME3 might be the last Bioware game I buy because they aren't interested in making good single player games anymore. They pretty much trashed DA...

Thats why we have CDPR. :)

If it's full out MP and not just co-op I think that's a pretty wretched move by Bioware. But not because MP doesn't belong in ME which I don't necessarily agree with. It's because flat-out I don't think Bioware is a company that can properly introduce MP into a game. Does anybody else remember how ****ING HORRIBLE Pinnacle Station was? To me that seemed to be their crack at what MP would be like.

Of course that was years ago but it's not like the team has been able to practice on other games. To my knowledge there's been no MP related betas from the ME team released to the public. Introducing MP isn't a simple act. You can't just throw some modes in there and let people go at it. And frankly I've never thought Bioware was impressive from a technical standpoint. And this is coming from a devout fan. Their games are almost always buggy in some way(graphical ME issues, KOTOR freezes, DA2 achievement fails etc. etc.) and in my experience they rarely patch the issues unless they're catastrophic. I can't get through a KOTOR play-through on console without it freezing at some point. Their new conversation system was the first time they created something from a technical standpoint that made me say "okay this is groundbreaking". Their strengths are creating stories, great writing, character development and the like. If this is supposed to be an all out horde/deathmatch series of modes I think it'll end really blowing up in their faces. My two cents. I love you regardless BW and my CE pre-order is still in place. :)

This worries me.

Is it going to effect single player? Are resources and time going to be taken away from single player to help develop multiplayer?

Does this mean ME3 will have more of a combat focus than the other two? How will they make dialogue interesting for anyone playing a non-Shepard character? If this is going to be co-op, what will the second (or third?) players do while Shepard goes from companion to companion to talk to them? Is that personal companion dialogue going to be absent?

I enjoyed Dragon Age 2 but it's not hard to see the glaring problems it had due to being rushed and having some terrible design decisions. I know they're different teams and Mass Effect is my favorite video game series of all-time, but I'm a little worried about Mass Effect 3. :S

I wasn't replying to that, I was repyling to you in regards to saying that everyone who wants MP wants a shooter-fest, which is clearly wrong. I'd like to see co-op in ME3, something like Portal 2 or Journey. Maybe Bioware will be able to make something new and unique, maybe not. I'm willing to give them a chance.

I see, then we're at a misunderstanding. My apologies.

You're assuming EA would throw all the extra money at SP developement if MP didn't exist. I say it's a rather debatable assumption.

From everything I know about EA, I think EA cares far more about multiplayer than it does about singleplayer.

Based on what we know, I'm expecting a short single-player campaign with some nice RPG features that we've seen already. A lot more scripted conversations and events as opposed to what we've seen in 1 and 2.

And a mediocre to well-done MP.

Overall, I doubt it'll be a bad game, in fact I'm sure it'll be quite good, it just won't be what I personally was going for.

I was expecting/hoping for a long, epic story with tons of story variations and choices to finish the trilogy, and I no longer believe that is a reasonable expectation.

... I liked SC: Conviction. I mean, it was nowhere near as good as Chaos Theory but it was still pretty good. That had a pretty good co-op mode - a co-op mode that was actually better than the SP imo.

I reckon Bioware's not as dumb as we like to imagine they are.

I reckon they don't listen as good as they could.  I know you cannot please everyone, but I think that a large part of the ME series success has been because the players get to make the decisions that shape the game.  I choose my squad, I control them, what weapons they have, when Jacob uses Pull and when Miranda uses Warp.  Its ALL in my control.

MP will change all of that.  Rabid PVPrs will stop at nothing to kill and re-kill people ad nauseum.  classes will not be balanced, and people will get multiple accounts and bot them into unstoppable forces like we have never seen.  A 3 soldier team botted up will be able to destroy any group of regular organic operators with devastating efficiency.  It happened(s) in WoW every day - and is NOT against the ToS.  The devs will try to fix this by initiating team ratings - the botters get around this by re-making new teams with zero rating and will continue to rape face.  Thats what they do and thats why so many games out there do not appeal to me.

Bioware should stick with what they do best in the Mass Effect series - that is the story and immersion that made it so fun to play.

No it's true.  And this is coming from someone who bought both The Witcher and The Witcher 2.  I love their games but they seriously are over-rated.

He was using sarcasm to call someone else's sarcastic post stupid because he took it seriously. The goof's not mine.

Just to make sure my disappointment is logged before it is locked and deleted...

Multiplayer: Because Mass Effect need a good Horde/ Survival/ Kill 'em all mode
So our "killer feature" is multi-player.  Why is it the only people excited about this are affiliated with EA and the press?  How does this fit with Mass Effect being "Shepard's story"?  Are we supposed to believe the Alliance cloned Shepard or something? The game was delayed three months for this?!
Fail.
