I wasn't replying to that, I was repyling to you in regards to saying that everyone who wants MP wants a shooter-fest, which is clearly wrong. I'd like to see co-op in ME3, something like Portal 2 or Journey. Maybe Bioware will be able to make something new and unique, maybe not. I'm willing to give them a chance.

I see, then we're at a misunderstanding. My apologies.

No worries. I see why you don't want MP, but I at least want to give Bioware the chance to at the very least announce it themselves so we can finally see what all the fuss is about.

Funny to see so much rage over speculation. I already have Mass Effect 3 pre-ordered so IF competitive multiplayer is present then great and if not I won't care. I'll enjoy the game regardless.

I think the rage stems from the fact Bioware is caught up in trends. I'm not interested in MMO's, and I could care less about multiplayer. ME3 might be the last Bioware game I buy because they aren't interested in making good single player games anymore. They pretty much trashed DA...

Thats why we have CDPR. :)

You mean we have a company that makes us forced to play a one gender character does limiting role playing and some wonky combat? If that's the future of rpgs then it's a sad time for the gaming industry indeed.

*sigh*

I'll elaborate. The story will be good. The actual features, weapon modding, powers, etc, will be good.

But the campaign as a whole will likely be shorter than we're expecting, and a lot more linear and scripted than the previous two games.

That said, I'll grant that if any developer could prove me wrong about this, it's Bioware.

Bioware, please, please make me look an idiot. I'm begging you. Make me look stupid.

No it's true.  And this is coming from someone who bought both The Witcher and The Witcher 2.  I love their games but they seriously are over-rated.

People seems to assume that a company giving out free DLCs makes them great(er).

Oh its true you say? Well in that case I'll go play MMO's and mult-player by Bioware.  =]

... I liked SC: Conviction. I mean, it was nowhere near as good as Chaos Theory but it was still pretty good. That had a pretty good co-op mode - a co-op mode that was actually better than the SP imo.

I liked Conviction, too, just how I liked Transformers 3. Why? It's because it was what it was. Hitman is a game that is such a unique and fun stealth game, copying Conviction is just frustrating and a slap to the face.

I hope they go in a direction with MP similar to what Ubisoft did with Assassins Creed. People didn't think MP would work in that game at all, and it actually ended up being very unique and fun and fitting with the game.

I'm just worried because I think MP in any form does not jive with the strengths of Mass Effect. Even though combat was improved in 2, its still no where close to something like Gears or Halo. The strengths of Mass Effect...story, characters, atmosphere, soundtrack, dialogue...simply do not translate to multiplayer.

really you just contradicted yourself. brohood shorten their SP just to slap on that horrid MP, which is exactly like COD-clone, oh wow no shooting, but still stabbing.

Brotherhood had a good, solid free roamish campaign, and I thought the multiplayer was a genuinely fun addition to the game.  They really figured out a way to play to the strengths of the single player game in creating the multiplayer.

THe problem for Mass Effect is that the actual combat gameplay is too similar to other, already megasuccessful online shooters.  There's really nothing to distinguish ME combat except some cool physics powers and sloppy controls.  AC:Brotherhood had the hook up assassin stealth gameplay, something that made it unique from other online games.

All the strengths and aspects that make Mass Effect great do not translate to an online experience.  It's a game completely driven by story.  Combat is just a means to an end, unlike games like Gears where combat is the core of the game and everything else is just icing on the cake.  I mean, what do you remember most about the Suicide Mission?  The actual fights?  Or the cinematics, the music, the overall epicness of whats happening.  I'm not sure how you replicate that in a multiplayer environment.

From everything I know about EA, I think EA cares far more about multiplayer than it does about singleplayer.

And based on what I know about BW, I think BW cares far more about singleplayer than multiplayer. This is NOT the first, or second BW game to have MP. This wasn't a problem for the SP campaigns in their past games, why would it be now?

KainrycKarr wrote...

Based on what we know, I'm expecting a short single-player campaign with some nice RPG features that we've seen already. A lot more scripted conversations and events as opposed to what we've seen in 1 and 2.

Yet they've confirmed ME3 will be at least as long as ME2. They didn't lie when they announced ME2's lenght before the release, so given that I don't expect them to lie about the leght of ME3 SP campaign either.

More so when the free dlc is really sub par =]

As long as the sp remains strong Im fine with mp, but if the addition of the latter results in a reduction of quality of the sp or even worse the locking out of some content (weapons. mods, like needing to play on mp to get some of the sp stuff) then I will be dissapointed. Also im worried that a poorly integrated mp will damage quite strongly the image of the franchise.

The thing that ticks me off is that this smacks of multiplayer just being decided near the end or in the middle of the project, I'd rather them have intended it since the beginning so it's at least good.

To me, it looks more like they've been working on it for awhile but weren't ready to commit by announcing it as a definite feature.  It was probably considered experimental and expendable until they solved certain problems that they'd decided had to be solved in order for the feature to ship.

Oh for crying out loud people, it's not going to be required to play the main story. Do you really think that Bioware will all of a sudden require you to play with multiple people during the main plot while the entire series has been a SP experience...............NO.

MP or Co-op whichever, will be a separate entity or you will have the option of bringing people into your SP experience. But it will not be a requirement, hell not everyone has their consoles hooked up to the internet, so if it was a requirement, they couldn't play the game. End of story.

Damn, a lot of you guys are such doomsayers.

Post from another thread that may disappear because it is not here...

Multiplayer: Because Mass Effect need a good Horde/ Survival/ Kill 'em all mode

So our "killer feature" is multi-player.  Why is it the only people excited about this are affiliated with EA and the press?  How does this fit with Mass Effect being "Shepard's story"?  Are we supposed to believe the Alliance cloned Shepard or something? The game was delayed three months for this?!

Fail.

...and lest I be accused of posting without source, this is from IGN

I never played Hitman so I can't really comment. Anyway, you presumably saw how well Conviction worked with co-op. ME is a game partially built around squad-gameplay, so some kind of squad-based co-op could really fit well with it.

Oh yes, because being forced to play a gender in 1 game is such a tragedy. You'd assume people would be mature enough to handle it. I play as women sometimes in videogames and I don't mind it. If their was going ot be a great videogame coming out where I'd have to be a woman I'd still buy it. There are plenty of games where you can choose your gender anyway.

*heavy depressed sigh* I can't argue with that.  I'm going to play The Old Republic but I wanted a proper ending to Revan's story.  Not yet another MMO.

No deaf ears here. If I end up totally wrong, and my assumptions totally baseless, I'll gladly take a picture of my foot in my mouth for all to see.

I just don't think it's going to happen is all.
