When people are critiquing the actual game, they won't be saying; "this could have been done better", they'll be yelling; "this SHOULD have been done better!"
If people see multiplayer, expect them to be even more critical than usual. A waste of time and resources which could easily have improved the base game is a far worse transgression than making a genuine error in an area where all resources have been appropriately concentrated.
I'll be expecting something bloody ingenius from Bioware if this rumour is confirmed. Multiplayer will give me the eyes of a hawk.

And having the game in a somewhat playable state doesn't mean it is at all finished... doesn't even mean they have every part of the game completely playable. It just means they have enough of it put together to know what they are wanting to do with it and can show some of it off.
There are at least 3 different threads on it that are going with more or less attention in this very forum right now as a matter of fact. There is actually very little that points to it other than what people want to grasp at straws and pigeon hole into proof for it. Nobody even really questions some of these pigeon-holed ideas even and when they do it's mostly ignored.
a multiplayer pass serves what purpose exactly? the way you people talk about it is the equivilent of a CoD game going "we're going to install all this material for a single player campaign on your computer but you can only use it if you can correctly imput our 50 digit combination that only get printed in braille!" While I wouldn't entirely put it past the makers of Call of Duty Someday. It's unlikely to happen. Specially in an age where most computer games at the very least are requiring some kind of online registration when you load the game and potentially access to their systems before you can use all the little extra's tied to said game. A System that EA and Bioware are using to great affect and don't have a big reason to break.
We are 6 months away... The game is going gold any time now if it hasn't already to begin with. They know everything that is going on that disc... Now is there a bit of potential that it could be turned into day one DLC or something? Sure there is... But it's just not that likely since we know they have other potential materials they could do that with instead.

I must admit I dont understand all the "preorder cancelled" posts people keep putting up everytime a feature they dislike (or think they will dislike) is talked about. In my opinion they´ve made 2 great games and i am more than willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, with or without multiplayer and ill reserve my judgement until after ive played the game.

How many times BioWare should tell people that there's no multiplayer.... <_<
Bioware lied about Mass Effect being a xbox/PC only game and they can surely lie about mulitplayer being in ME3.

Bioware just needs to be aware that if they do introduce multiplayer, they're heaping extra pressure onto themselves to create something nigh perfect in single player mode.

This, so much this. There is no way a multiplayer will be universally accepted if they don't come up with the an absolutely flawless single player experience, that satisfies every need everyone could possibly have from the epic ending of Commander Shepard's story. And I think it's obvious that this simply cannot happen, there are way too much expectations and variables they would need to address to give everyone what they want.
But there will be no multiplayer, right? So all this is wasted time. Just say it, BioWare!

As a dude without a 360 or a decent PC, I must say I'm a big fan of Bioware's "lie."
That being said, boooooooooooo multiplayer. Boo, hiss, no thank you.

Honestly, I am considering just exactly that. MP is traditionally what makes a game suck - other peeps making the decisions for you, stealing kills, trying to gank you - generally being a nuisance. I have no interest in such things. The reason why I get these games is due to the fact that there is NO multiplayer.
If I wanted to play an MMO I would do so - I played WoW for years, and all that game dis was suck worse and worse till all of the good peeps left. Developers do not put in the time to experience all sidesof MP, and generally its just a fustercluck.
If they considered a co-op, and only a co-op then I might not cancel. I'd like to get on here with my pals, join forces, and curbstomp some Reapers.

It's not the same, by the time ME1 was done Bioware was an independent studio with an exclusive deal with Microsoft, but between ME1 and DA:O release Bioware was bought by EA (Microsoft didn't do anything to retain them, I don't know even if they could), with EA new requirements came and the exclusivity deal with MS was no longer valid.Knottedredloc wrote...

My decision wheter to buy or not ME3 doesn't depend on MP, it depends if Origin will be required. What I most fear from MP is that it may affect the whole game design towards a pure shooter

I had that concern with ME2 and all the combat upgrades they were doing. I was happily proven wrong. In this case, I'm not worried about a "pure shooter" but I do share the concerns echoed above about the SP-experience being weakened because of splitting the development resources or plugging in an anemic MP experience that will only be a source of criticism by "true" MP fans....What I most fear from MP is that it may affect the whole game design towards a pure shooter

So, you think multiplayer in ME3 will equate to your single-player experience immediately overwhelmed with various other Shepards running around in your game? Have you actually ever played a game with multiplayer in it?
And I'm saying this as someone who is dead set against multiplayer in ME3 (Though not future games, it just seems stupid and time-wasting to try it in the final game of all times.), but every game I've played with a story and multiplayer has always segregated it as having a 'Campaign' button and a 'Multiplayer' button on the main menu. If you never select multiplayer, you'd never know it was there. It just seems like you have a rather active imagination.

This 1,000 times over.
I'm a believer they will put Multiplayer in ME3, and that it will suck. And, as the quoted post states, I'll be extremely critical of the Single player experience. If this comes to pass, I'm leaving Bioware to wait for Bethesda to cripple itself.

As long as they don't do what they did with most games and concentrate most of the achievements on multiplayer only. Thats the only thing that will annoy me.
Even if they had a "Multiplayer disc" Like ODST did. I would prefer that.

That would ruin the game and series for me. Is it confirmed there is multiplayer or not? Thanks for replying. Also when does the Mass Effect movie come out and the Mass Effect anime movie come out? thanks
It's hasn't officially confirmed or denied.
Some devs have stated things like "we want to, but can't find away to make cool or fun", however a South African (I think it from South Africa) video game store showed an ad that stated an online MP pass would be included in the collector's edition although people from that country stated that the store has a record of getting things like that wrong, none of the major North American video game and department store chains like Gamestop, Best Buy, and others have not featured or mentioned it.
A "new killer feature" will be revealed in the next issue of Xbox World. It comes out in a few weeks. Now It MIGHT be a MP feature or it might be something else entirely.
I have no date or any other info on the LAM other than that Shepard will be a man.
I THINK that the anime is rumored to be coming out next year.

I don't believe they'll be taking any risks, and investing resources in multiplayer when the games have been about a single player roleplaying experience... I just can't see it happening. They have a strong fanbase, and adding multiplayer may well detract from it. If the do add multiplayer, I can't see anybody purchasing it over CoD.
My opinion. Or wishful thinking, we'll have to see.
