Thats why CO-OP should always be a choice.

A. I like playing solo. (Insert obvious joke here) I fail to see why I should have to play multiplayer to get the full story experience.
B. If You take X amount of money to develop a game and split that between solo and multiplayer then the solo content is X/2 worth of quality instead of the X worth of quality it could have been.
C. They flat out stated this was singleplayer. I don't know about you but generally human beings get really annoyed when they are deliberatly lied to.

A. If there is a multiplayer mode, I doubt it will be tied to the story. Typically speaking, multiplayer modes don't even have story.
B. Even if you're assuming that they wouldn't be given extra money to do multiplayer, money that wouldn't be used if the multiplayer weren't put in, and that Bioware makes games on a completely flat rate and don't adjust that rate according to what they do and don't need - which is frankly idiotic - it wouldn't cost half the budget to make multiplayer.
C. As certain people love mentioning as (weak) proof that MP isn't in, they've never flat out said that MP wouldn't be in the game. Whether you interpret that as just keeping options open or whatever, it's up to you. But if MP does turn out to be in, they haven't lied to anyone. And even if they did, there is such a thing as changing your mind.

Well done multiplayer will overshadow the single-player campaign, which has been the focus of the entire series from its inception. DLC would mostly be multiplayer focused because you're aiming at a larger crowd than those would like to see more story-driven DLC.
Badly done multiplayer will have just been a waste of rezources that would have been better spent developing the single-player mode more. Future patches and DLC would focus on fixing an inherently flawed thing instead (like the multiplayer) and largely ignore the single-player mode.
There are just better multiplayer games as well. I can't imagine this drawing in anyone who wasn't interested in the first two games.

I can't speak for anyone else but here are my (perhaps paranoid) concerns:

Yes. I agree with this.
But If they did it as a DLC I wouldn't care as much. I won't buy it so for me it won't exist. I'm also a bit paranoid about this. I'm not a fan of MMO's and I've only played a couple of co-ops which were fun, but they had little or no character story and nothing like the ME experience which I just do not see translating to either MMO or co-op well.
edit - must be getting tired.

THE ONLY EXPLANATION of the hate for Multiplayer is it will take time away form the SP work. everything else is just fanboy rage.

Something along the lines of how Red Dead Redemtion presented the co-op missions.BlackbirdSR-71C wrote...
Why not Co-op missions seperrate from the single-player campaign? That way they don't interfere with each other. They could either do a new mission-based campaign for coop or simple objective-based missions both of which would also be DLC friendly thereby expanding their lifespan.

At the very least I hope the campaign doesn't suffer too much from the shift in resources, and after Shepard's story Bioware is officially gone from my dwindling "buy first, ask questions later" list of developers.

I'm not saying that there's no multiplayer. I've accepted that there is. I'm saying that co-op is implausible. Co-op would end up either messing with the original controls or annoy the other people.
You DO realize that:
1) Coop is the most obvious multiplayer choice for a story-based game. Also, BioWare has done it several times in the past, such as the aforementioned Baldur's Gate and also Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2. And I know for a fact that in NWN2, you can play through essentially the ENTIRE campaign with a companion.
2) The freaking magazine says "Fight alongside your friends as the galaxy goes to war!" Reading comprehension, much? Deathmatch wouldn't be "fighting alongside." Team deathmatch POSSIBLY, horde mode POSSIBLY, but that would make the sentence poorly worded. Also, it's a PC magazine, and I have run across very few PC gamers that care about things like horde mode.

Haha, this topic was 4 pages before I went to sleep. Anyway, I'm not too concerned about multiplayer being in ME3. I trust BW knows what they're doing, and who knows, MP might be *GASP* fun.
You should have a play of DA2 then becuase I'm not sure they know what they are doing anymore
Totally different team... THANK GOD.

So this is how Mass Effect dies...with unwanted multiplayer.
Kind of appropriate that the side I oppose would use references to the *prequels.*
I think a lot of people fail to realize how important projected sales are for EA. You guys are talking about cancelling your preorders (which you'll desperately - and futily - try to re-preorder the CE for later; trust me, I see it all the time). D'uh. You had your preorders in the first place BECAUSE of how important projected sales are. GameStop pushes it, EA pushes it, even BioWare proper pushes it (see the DA2 launch bull). Multuplayer will increase preorders for the game, whether a thousand too-serious "fans" have a heart attack or not. Multiplayer will increase the number of sales after the initial release drastically, reducing the fall-off seen in many single-player titles (including games like - yes - the original ME and ME2). Most important, multiplayer will increase demand for a digital multiplayer pass, reducing losses from used game sales.
In other words, multiplayer is projected to vastly increase the profits of ME3 in at least three different ways. EA increases BioWare's budget accordingly, and BioWare hires the staff they need to make it happen. Fortunately, the hard stuff related to multiplayer pretty much happens at the engine level. So no, it won't slow any other work on the game. They might need to record a few extra lines of dialogue. For instance, if you play as Garrus and are now allowed to select comments on the conversations the first player is engaging in. This too is paid for with the additional budget.
End result is there are more people working on the game than without multiplayer, ME3 is a bigger/better game, and EA/BioWare make more money.
