Oh hey Farscape.. I should totally watch that show sometime.
In addition to all its other strengths, it's stocked to the brim with fascinating, deep alien races. I think you'd enjoy it.

Wait, are we discussing this seriously, now?
Joking, but I know her from Repo! The Genetic Opera, in any case.Biotic Sage wrote...

If the movie Shepard won't be at least half as cool as the game Shepard ( and it's pretty hard even so ), I'll bomb the L/P center with a nuclear bomb.
And this is a serious terrorist threat.

I know it's awful to say...
But I hope this movie fails.... and I mean Uwe Boll fail... just so that they never cheapen and soil the franchise even further with another damn movie after the first.
I despise having my beloved favorite game stories being condensed down into a cheap 1.5 - 2 hour film.... for the same reason I despise the notion of having my favorite novel(s) turned into films.
Just let them be their own damn thing... why is there this idiotic assumption by the masses and filmakers that a film can tell a story better than a book or other form of medium (like video games). Can't filmakers just come up with their own damn original stories and make those into films and leave our goddamn games & books alone?
Sigh.

An intriguing and complex universe, if adapted well, can be enjoyable in any medium of storytelling. That being said, the media-industrial complex that runs Hollywood these days pretty much sets this up to fail. Artistic integrity is for all intents and purposes a complete non-factor in making Hollywood films.
Now if somebody like a Nolan or a Kubrick got his/her hands on the universe, I wouldn't care how many liberties they want to take; the result would be a creative work of art, compelling in its own right.

True enough.
Though 99.9% of my ire is actually for Bioware over this and not the movie makers.. Bioware agreed to allow their IP to be cheapened by having it turned into a film. Their games did wonders to expand and develop the Mass Effect brand name into something special and wonderful.... now they go and throw feces on it in the name of an easy money grab by making a film about it that will only serve to diminish the name and image of it, not increase its prestige.
I can hardly blame the movie makers for being given a free lunch on this one.... my anger about this is reserved for the people at Bioware who gave this the go-ahead.

This is sad. No Seth Green as Joker, the movie is about Commander Shepard but not about the story in the games. Prequel anyone? Do you honestly think ME3 could give this enough push?

To be honest, I agree with that article and am not disappoint from the news. I can well enjoy the movie even if it doesn't follow the game story, as long as it's well done.
One thing I don't get, tho. To me, Seth Green totally looks the part for The Joker. *shrugs*
