Oh hey Farscape.. I should totally watch that show sometime.

In addition to all its other strengths, it's stocked to the brim with fascinating, deep alien races. I think you'd enjoy it.

Wait, are we discussing this seriously, now?

If the movie Shepard won't be at least half as cool as the game Shepard ( and it's pretty hard even so ), I'll bomb the L/P center with a nuclear bomb.

And this is a serious terrorist threat.

Joking, but I know her from Repo! The Genetic Opera, in any case.

Good, if macabre, movie.

You do realize there is a "terrorist threat" option in the "Report Post" list?  haha

Just thought you should be aware, in case, you know, you are really a terrorist.  Wait, if you are then I feel bad I just helped you out...disregard all of this.

Nothing about what was said makes me think "this could be a good movie." All hopes of that ended when they all but said, "yeah, bioware's gonna let us mess with the story."

Another failed game-to-movie gambit. Hope to be wrong, but I pretty much know I(and most others who share this opinion) will be right.

I know it's awful to say...

But I hope this movie fails.... and I mean Uwe Boll fail... just so that they never cheapen and soil the franchise even further with another damn movie after the first.

I despise having my beloved favorite game stories being condensed down into a cheap 1.5 - 2 hour film.... for the same reason I despise the notion of having my favorite novel(s) turned into films.

Just let them be their own damn thing... why is there this idiotic assumption by the masses and filmakers that a film can tell a story better than a book or other form of medium (like video games). Can't filmakers just come up with their own damn original stories and make those into films and leave our goddamn games & books alone?

Sigh.

An intriguing and complex universe, if adapted well, can be enjoyable in any medium of storytelling.  That being said, the media-industrial complex that runs Hollywood these days pretty much sets this up to fail.  Artistic integrity is for all intents and purposes a complete non-factor in making Hollywood films.

Now if somebody like a Nolan or a Kubrick got his/her hands on the universe (and had complete control over the filmmaking process), I wouldn't care how many liberties they want to take; the result would be a creative work of art, compelling in its own right.

Honestly it all depends on who they cast to play Shepard and what sort of story they choose to tell. If they go for a shallow action movie then it won't resonate well with anyone. If they go for a deep, involving story that could stand on its own without the sci-fi set pieces, then it could be something spectacular.

True enough.

Though 99.9% of my ire is actually for Bioware over this and not the movie makers.. Bioware agreed to allow their IP to be cheapened by having it turned into a film. Their games did wonders to expand and develop the Mass Effect brand name into something special and wonderful.... now they go and throw feces on it in the name of an easy money grab by making a film about it that will only serve to diminish the name and image of it, not increase its prestige.

I can hardly blame the movie makers for being given a free lunch on this one.... my anger about this is reserved for the people at Bioware who gave this the go-ahead.

Yeah, I have to agree.  They got antsy and wanted to turn some profit.  I don't think the franchise is ripe enough yet to turn it over to someone else, nor do I think they turned it over to the right people.

Oh well, maybe they see the Mass Effect franchise as something different than what most of the fans see it as: simply a fantastic setting for some relatively low-intellect action/adventure.  The only thing we can do now is hope that it doesn't go as low as Captain America or other cookie-cutter, shamelessly consumer-based action movies. cough Michael Bay cough.

I'm on the opposite end of hte spectrum.
If you're gonna make a ME movie, then make it a ME movie. Follow the game plot. It can be easily condensed into a 2+ hour move. Approach the material with care and respect. Do the universe and setting justice.

If you can't do these 3 things, don't do a movie at all.

A move that has nothign to do with the game it like a Harry Potter move that has nothing to do with the books... Something that should never be the first, hte introduction.

This is sad. No Seth Green as Joker, the movie is about Commander Shepard but not about the story in the games. Prequel anyone? Do you honestly think ME3 could give this enough push?

To be honest, I agree with that article and am not disappoint from the news. I can well enjoy the movie even if it doesn't follow the game story, as long as it's well done.

One thing I don't get, tho. To me, Seth Green totally looks the part for The Joker. *shrugs*

meh. I have no real interest in the movie. If I hear it is entertaining, I will see it. If I hear it is not entertaining, I will not see it.

First post that makes sense. Where are all the people that went crazy when they heard the movie was going to be based on ME1? They assumed it was going to be exactly like ME1 and why would you pay to see something like that etc.

Seth could pull it off if you ask me

With all due respect, this was posted days after the ComicCon panel, I think right after it even, and I entered the topic expecting some actual news...

EDIT: Oh I see now, Kotaku trying to sell the "it was silently edited" card... the blog post is unchanged.
