The Dragonball movie shows how you can completely **** up a well defined and well loved thing.

Should have never been made in the first place.

Mistake 1: No  Budget

Mistake 2: Bad Writing

Mistake 3:  Bad  writing that paid little head to Source materail

Mistake 4: Bad writing and not consult  Akira Toyama

If Joker will be on the movie, but played by anyone that's not Seth Green, this movie is already dead to me.
If it's just the story of Shepard before ME1, WITHOUT Joker, then I may give it a chance.

Just to be clear: if Joker will be on the movie, he MUST be played by Seth Green or I'll refuse to watch it.

I'm still holding out hope that this will somehow surprise everyone and be amazing, but it looks less and less likely every day.

I just fear that even if the guys working on the film DO have good ideas for the franchise, it'll get mixed up in trying to fit in enough stuff from the games to make it recognisable (and thus more $) diluting any creativity they may have otherwise utilised.

I mean, not casting Seth Green as Joker is madness. Unless there is more to that story, perhaps he had other commitments for example, I just can't get my head around it. Joker is comic relief, Seth is a comedian and actor. They look alike. Seth is a well known face to a fair few people, but not so well known that he comes with a huge price tag. It seems perfect. *shrugs*

Oh hey Farscape.. I should totally watch that show sometime.

You really should, along with Firefly it's one of the most refreshingly fun examples of Sci Fi you can watch.

Im amazed that Legendary couldn't come up with another story than a variation of mass effect 1.
There are many stories in the ME universe that could be told on screen or in a novel.

First contact war is one of them.

Needless to say, this is one movie I won't be wasting time on.
If I want to experience me1 again, I'd just play the game.

I think the choice to make a story that has not been told in the current video games is a good one. Why on earth or any other planet would we want to see a movie of a game that we already played? Specially such a cinematic game like Mass Effect.

There is plenty of source material to use that justifices lack of certain game characters like Joker. Not that I would enjoy missing such characters, but they are not siamese twins you know...

For the same reason people who read Lord of the Rings went to see the movie. For hte same reason that people who read Harry Potter went to see the movies.

Why on earth are yo uasking such a stupid question?
ME already beign cinematic is hte PERFECT reaon to make it into a move - ti's already close. It's story is compact and self-inclosed, it's got enough action and drama and everything. It's a perfect movie story.

To go with another story completely is sheer stupidity.

Movies from books and vice versa are different from video games. Whereas you are in book, limited by your own imagination and the description of the writer. You do not have that when it comes to video games. Thats why people that read the HP books or the Bourne Books would watch it as a movie. As to experience it more visually.

As you said your self. Mass Effect is already a cinematic experience. Why would I want to watch that in a theater when I can PLAY it at home and experience it in a much bigger way, where you are an actual part of it.

I don't mind  a Mass Effect movie - Just don't  want a Mass Effect game Trigology Movie that is exact  retelling of the game.    If they did a  a  "Rebuild"  type deal with Mass Effect keeping the same themes and some of the same characters but a different plot of how things turned that would cool. Exact retelling of the game - is a no no.

Well, I for one won't be seeing it. But I never expected to want to see it in the first place.

First mistake was putting Shepard in it. Chances are they'll get some male actor I don't like at all to play Shepard

I was doing some reading and Spirits Within budget  killed it - there was to be more but the Tech at the Time was so cutting edge they could not make anymore or complete the story they way they wanted  it to be done.

Really the reality is that most game movies fail  for one  of two or  both reasons.   Budget  and/or trying to translate the game plot in the movie plot.

Silent  HIll is movie that got   it kinda  right - the looked and felt like Silent Hill the problem is Silent Hill is more  Mind trip type of the deal than "classic" Horror Movie.   Great movie having the composer who did the muisc for the games do the movie most.

I was laughing when people where screaming the mandatory "Just Leave" just to find out that you can't.

What a mess. It won't be an adaptation of ME1/ME2 yet the STILL insist on having Shepard in (and thus making the movie happen in alternate universe by default)? Why just not make that First Contact War movie?

So you would want a Hollywood  fat cat , sleezy ball playing around with on of the founding  events of the Mass Effect Universe.  The AU/ Rebuild/ Re-telling is the best way to go....  Game plot   never  equals Movie plot..

Maybe this movie will explain the time between, Akuze/Skyllian/Torfan and Shepard's recruitment onto the Normandy. Isn't that a 2-5 year gap where Shepard is just chilling? They could cover N7 training, N7 missions, etc.

However I'm anticipating this movie to suck, but I will still go see it probably(I know I'm part of the problem).

Silent Hill is probably the best VG-> Movie adaption, and it was still a bit messy (though that was mostly due to the director).

So Shep's going to be in it, eh? Based on what we know about him (and what movie producers like to expect from audiences), it'll probably be either Earthborn/Colonist with the War Hero / Ruthless background. Both provide for a lot of conflict and action, from the destruction of a human colony to a dystopian Earth full of gangs. War Hero is more likely; I don't see a producer going, "Yeah, the viewers will totally prefer a man ruthlessly slaughtering terrorists at the cost of his men when we could have him fend off an attack on his own instead".

How does Seth Green not fit the part? The character of joker can't really move around a whole lot, so a skinny little guy would fit pretty well. Plunk his **** in a chain, slap a beard on him, and give him some crutches. What is the problem, exactly?

Because a Space UN who we've never heard of suddenly turning up and saving the day would be a really awful ending to a movie?

I'm on the same boat as you.

The movie may or may not turn out to be what the hardcore fans are looking for in a Mass Effect movie but I am confident it will be a good movie regardless.

I will can't stand talking to a random people who never played the game....

Random People: That Joker, he's funny!! I love his voice..
Me: That's not Joker, and that's not his voice...

RP: So, that's the plot around ME universe..
Me: No! That's just a movie based on the game, that's not the real story!!
RP: Of course it is!!
Me: Oh! God!

Hollywood screwed with one of my favorites anime's, they screwed Dragon Ball with Dragon Ball Evolution, it was a nightmare. Now this.. Leave the history game alone!! It's an interactive story, with well placed characters.

The first contact war movie theme will be the best!! Beginning with the discovery of the ancient ruins in mars, developing mass jumps through mass relays, with new characters, with an history with love, action, sacrifice, mistery.

That movie will be filling various serious points..
First.. It will introduce the newcomers to the ME universe.
Second.. In the same time, we, the fans, will be pleased to see a movie showing us an epic battle, the first encounter with an alien race.
Thirth.. With that movie, newcomers will interested in try the ME game trilogy because the awesomeness of the movie.. So profit for bioware after all.

Yeah, I thought this was what they were doing. I guess I haven't been following the development very closely; the last time I looked, I'd read that the movie was to be about the First Contact War, which I really liked.

I'm usually so in support of everything Bioware has ever even thought of having a hand in that I'm in danger of sounding like a sycophant, but I can say for the first time that I really dislike what I've heard so far about this movie.

And, I'll be honest, I'm not particularly thrilled about the movie featuring a Male Shepard; I'm not surprised, and I understand it from a marketing perspective, but I don't have to like it. That's why I was so excited when I heard originally that they might be making the movie about the First Contact War; I thought that was a great way of leaving Shepard ambiguous.

Oh well. I'll still go and see it, probably as soon as it comes out; as I write this, I'm toasty-warm in my N7 hoodie. I'm not going to pretend I'm not a fangirl. Image IPB

Variable 2:

Random Guy:  That's one of the worst movies I ever seen
Random Guy 2: I heard it's based on a video game and they needed to make a ton of changes and that's as good as they good make it
Random Guy! Just imagine how bad the video game's story is...

I'm not going to jump the gun and assume that they can't figure something out with Shepard that still makes sense and can be engaging. He obviously had to have some recognizable or exemplary feats prior to becoming N7 and a Commander, no?

Legendary Pictures wrote...

MASS EFFECT

Q: Will it just be an adaptation of the first game, second game, or a completely new story?

A: It will be a completely new story

Eh, okay.  Better than messing up the games, I suppose...

Q: How are you going to address the element of 'choice' that the players have in the game?

A: A movie narrative is different than gameplay. There won't be a choice aspect to this film, just a normal film narrative.

Just as well.  It'd be weird for the audience to stop the movie and take a vote.

Q: Will it be a trilogy?

A: We are really focused on making this a great movie, so we'll see where it takes us. We have to get the first one right to know whether there will be more.

Good, good.  Don't push sequels.

Q: Will Seth Green portray Joker (that character he voiced in the game?)

A: No.

OUTRAGE.

Q: Will the movie be focused on Sheppard?

A: Yes.

But... but my headcanon!

Q: If the movie is focused on Sheppard, will it be the male Sheppard or the female Sheppard?

A: Male.

BUZZKILL.

Q: Can you give any hints to potential casting?

A: No. Stay tuned.

Good, because I am already disappointed.

Q: Will BioWare allow plot / character changes?

A: Yes, we are working closely with BioWare on the development of this project.

Based on other supplimental media they've supervised, I have little faith that this will improve the quality of the overall work.  But I suppose it wouldn't hur--WHAT DO YOU MEAN PLOT/CHARACTER CHANGES?!

Q: Would you consider Daft Punk to do the soundtrack?

A: We love Daft Punk, but it's too early to say who will produce the soundtrack.

OH FFS WHO EVEN ASKED THIS QUESTION.  Let's not force Daft Punk to do movie soundtracks, mmkay?

Overall summary: NOOOO, NOT THE CANON!  NOT ANOTHER HORRIBLE GAME MOVIE!

This is the one that I am the most concerned about. I wonder if the film will be some half-assed pseudo version of ME1 that contains some of the characters and plot elements, but is not really like ME1. :?
