This is the one that I am the most concerned about. I wonder if the film will be some half-assed pseudo version of ME1 that contains some of the characters and plot elements, but is not really like ME1.

Plot summary: Blue ****** and ass, stuff explodes, and some guy fights a laser zombie robot.

Something like that is most likely.

If they had to do a Shepard movie. Couldn't they have it take place between ME1 and his rise to fame (Torfan, Akuze or Elysium)? That way. You can still have blue ******, space marines and 'SPLOSION!

It could also take place between ME1 and ME2 when Shepard and crew are killing geth. It would probably be a bland storyline but this will probably be a summer movie anyway and in the summer people refuse to think. (Critics even thought two of the Pirates movies were too complex.)

I've been telling my friends all along about how much potential the Mass Effect IP has to expand as a franchise... this movie sounds like it'll be as much of an embarrassment as it will a disappointment.

They probably should have just gone with the FCW, or one of Shepard's pre-service stories. Basing it around the events of the first game, but telling a completely different story, just sounds like... a milk.

I thought fcw would have been good, but they said they were doing the first game. so i'm like "ok, the first game had a good plot, this could still be good" and now its not the first game, its a completely new story, but still has shepard, but doesnt have seth green as joker... man, and I considered myself one of the few that was actually looking forwards to this movie. now even i'm not so sure...

Q: Will BioWare allow plot / character changes?

A: Yes, we are working closely with BioWare on the development of this project.

Based on other supplimental media they've supervised, I have little faith that this will improve the quality of the overall work.  But I suppose it wouldn't hur--WHAT DO YOU MEAN PLOT/CHARACTER CHANGES?!

Well, I started seeing this awhile ago.  In order for them to milk the hell out of the franchise, they'll have to establish some canon choices in a way.  So you chose Anderson as Councilor, oh well he quits in one of the books so Udina is councilor now lolol.  Chose to destroy the CB base?  Oh well, Cerberus still managed to get some tech and do some studies on it lololol.  Bioware likes to empahsize choice, but I'm not really hyped up about my choices meaning much of anything in ME3.

As for the movie, I'm wondering if this screen adaption of Shep will show the general public if he's heavy paragon, neutral, heavy renegade, or both/gray.

While I'm not a fan of making the movie in the first place, I feel like you're not doing it any favors by excluding Seth Green. Next they'll get new voice actors for Garrus, Tali, whoever just because.

Well good thing the movie doesn't seen to be following the game anymore

This is sad. No Seth Green as Joker, the movie is about Commander Shepard but not about the story in the games. Prequel anyone? Do you honestly think ME3 could give this enough push?

No,  Not for me at least.  I think they would get so many things wrong, like not casting Seth green as joker.  Oh wait...

I have a feeling that the movie is a prequel... all the events leading up to and including the Skylian Blitz.... yes the movie canonises Shep but I feel it is selfish of me to hate that fact because I want other people that never played the games to experience the awesomeness.

Or the project does a swan dive into a drained pool like the rummored Halo live action movie. They did do the Halo anime but that was mehhh.

Well this is better news than what I first heard about the movie being based on Shepards exploits in ME 1 which WE ALREADY PLAYED and know the story.

Still not looking good though as

1- I can't see anyone pulling off Joker than Seth, I care more about his personality than looking like the Joker in the game.

2- I don't want a canon Shep, the ME universe is big enough to have someone else be important, I mean the books can do it, why not the movie.

To be honest the film looks so far away that I can't really get excited about it. But it does seem a bit silly that Seth Green won't be Joker. He's an established actor who's good at what he does. Sure, he doesn't look like Joker - but then no one I can think of does.

Actually, if you put a ball cap. beard and sat him in a chair then Seth Green would come off as joker just fine. I think him not being in the movie is more a casting/production decision then "he doesn't resemble the character."

I will can't stand talking to a random people who never played the game....

Random People: That Joker, he's funny!! I love his voice..
Me: That's not Joker, and that's not his voice...

RP: So, that's the plot around ME universe..
Me: No! That's just a movie based on the game, that's not the real story!!
RP: Of course it is!!
Me: Oh! God!

Variable 2:

Random Guy:  That's one of the worst movies I ever seen
Random Guy 2: I heard it's based on a video game and they needed to make a ton of changes and that's as good as they good make it
Random Guy! Just imagine how bad the video game's story is...

That will be the worst case scenario.. Oh lord!

Because the quality of the movie, an epic franchise goes down before the "eyes" of the world (Random People).

A movie adaptation about a game, is always like walking in a tinny line, between the failure and the success. The history told us walking that line, means failure.

And for Joker and Seth Green, I don't remember where, but in some internet page I read something about "joker face was modeled based slightly of Seth face..".

Or... Epic music, explosions, shootout, Shepard, ******, explosion, ships, explosion, shootout, asses and blue ******, sex, explosion, sad moment, "I love you" comes back from the dead, explosion, end...

Seriously. I feel like they could make a decent movie if Shepard wasn't the protagonist.

Mass Effect is good for its setting, not its plot, which isn't all that original. The movie is going to get the worst of the franchise. Picking a male Shep pretty much confirms they're going for the stereotypical bland action flick. At least with a female Shep it could have stood out somewhat in the genre.

It could work if they choose one of the already existing origin stories. Colonist/War Hero would be the most "cinematic" I think.

Of course that is just me being optimistic, I'm expenting something along the lines of

I don't like the sound of making Shepard the central character or even involve Shepard in the movie at all, except perhaps an offhand reference for fan service or something. Why ruin what the franchise has built upon with player choice by then creating a totally canonShepard to use in a movie? Why can't the movie be like the books or comics and just be other stories that take place in the same universe that play around and into the story of the games but do not impact them. I always thought a movie about the first contact war would be the best way to introduce a new audience to this universe, not only that but a interesting part of the worlds history that deserves to be further explored. Start the movie off with the discovery of the ruins on mars and then move through into the first contact war and end it with the human's integration into the citadel.

I hope Wing Commander is not going to be analogous to Mass Effect in that regard.

Wing Commander 4 was a better movie, with better actors, than the Wing Commander movie.
