Honestly I cannot fathom thinking she's anything but.
All her actions and dialogue throughout the game point towards her being a sadistic, power hungry, self serving b*tch. And that's why I like her.

Hmmm, maybe.  In her dialogues, she wears her cruelty on her sleeve so much so that it makes more sense to me as a defense mechanism she's using to avoid developing friendships (at least oftentimes; I think she genuinely hates Wynne, for instance).  She's clearly not being instrumentally rational in it - if she were purely self-serving she'd be more craftily manipulative rather than so blunt.  That leaves the possibility it's a personality that's thoroughly cruel, but I think her friendship track undermines that image a bit.

Morrigan has a heart of gold underneath it all, and can be changed by the right person with a little time, work and faith.

Haha.

She's not really evil, just a hard ass. She doesn't like helping people when she feels they should be able to fight for themselves, like the the tower mages, the Redcliffe Villagers, the shopkeeper in Lothering, etc. but she also tends to speak up against cruelty like when she advocated mercy for Sten.

Mostly, it seems she has a very hard line, judgemental view of people and how they should behave, but overall would rather just stay out of things. If she's seeking power it's most certainly for her own survival. She just doesn't care about other people enough to go out of her way to help or hurt anyone else. Except for the rare exception, she seems to view people and their actions as distasteful curiousities and nothing more.

Add in the fact that her main goal is to rescue an old god from their current nature, something which, in theory, would benefit the world in general.

She's all about tough love, emphasis on the love in the context of her reactions to people.

Also worth pointing out that she has very little reason to love mainstream society.

Morrigan does have a lack of empathy, as in feeling sorry for other, weaker beings. She shows that quite often. Does it make her outright evil? Well when we met her she was very young and had a bad childhood, as in Flemeth raising her. So my take on Morrigan is that she can be both, good or evil. At least from a DA:O point of view. DA3 may be 10 years later and there is no way of knowing what happened. Basically both is possible. I'd hope the Hero of Ferelden had influence on her, but I seriously doubt that.

first off all
you cannot look thru your own perspective at the both of them
someone who has lived for centuries(flemeth) would have a complete different view on life,as an essence, because you see people come and go, age and die,she is probably numb towards humans and their uncureable dissease called life, she has learned over many centuries how to survive that means no weakness,no feelings towards humans because they wont stay around for long and you'll be left alone again after they die
is it being evil? i would think she has been made this way because when you need to survive you need to have this kind of attitude to do so
morrigan on the other hand is the younger version of flemeth she hasn't been hardend yet by the many centuries
tough flemeth has tried to give all her knowledge to her she is still young and needs to learn about the world (she hasn't been out the wilds before she met the warden)
she needs to learn more about humanity to understand them first
she is cold and looks like she is always on her own but in fact that is just where flemeth's teaching kicks in she has been told not to get emotionaly involved since she was a child
she finaly met the warden and learned there is another way of life
not to fear emotions nor to have them,it is perfectly human and unless iv'e missed something morrigan still is human after all (flemeth might not be anymore) or maybe morrigan was stolen by flemeth who knows
either way
the way i look at it is that they might both have the same goal in life (evil nor good) but they just look at it in different perspectives morrigan wanting to embrace feelings she had to block out for so long because flemeth told her and flemeth who tighs feelings with weakness
to put it simple "the end doesn't justify the means"
i think many are being put off by her cold exterior(morrigan) unable to see it is just a front she puts up to protect those she realy has feelings towards she is not as cold as you might think but she likes you to think so so u would keep your distance
there are bigger threat's out there then morrigan or flemeth don't forget that
if they realy would be evil to the bone they would have just annihilated the warden and hawke the moment they saved them its not black or white its all the colours in between
that doens't mean that your next protagonist will be on their side it just means that they have a persona of their own and are just a part of the story ( a piece of the puzzle) as you may please
in the end its still up to the writers to make up the rest of the puzzle and afaik there has been no definite direction been set

Is she good or bad?

Morrigan is probalby the most ambiguous characters in Dragon Age. My belief is that she is either trying to save the world or to doom it, but I can't decide which one.

My only problem with this is the fact that your suggesting Morrigan is a black/white character, when DAO is obviously not a black/white universe and instead relies on the greys, or in other words creating a real world in which people can't be divided into good or bad and instead it is simply their intentions and decisions that can be made out to be the 'wrong' ones. Take Loghain as an example. To begin with most players consider him pure evil, killing his daughter's husband and bringing civil war to Fereldan in a time when they are at their weakest (during a blight no doubt). And yet soon the player learns that it is in truth his disdain for the Orlesians and memories of how hard he and King Maric worked to take back Fereldan for themselves that causes him to do these things, as Cailan was seeking their aid.

That's my opinion anyway.

It is a nice theory, but irregardless of people's opinions of Loghain as a person, what he actually did was criminal...not just abandoning the battle plan. He sold Ferelden citizens into slavery, many of them may be used in blood rituals of the magisters. He arranged a blood mage to poison Eamon to get his greatest political rival out of the way without facing him openly. He hired assassins to murder the Wardens.

Those actions alone, could easily have him slated for execution for crimes against the state.

Morrigan is....well....she's Morrigan. She has stolen a book from a Dalish clan, a mirror from a noblewoman, and (depending on player choice) potentially brings back the soul of an old god. What she plans to do is pretty open to interpretation and speculation without further evidence, but she is powerful, keeps to herself, and pragmatic.

And a general pain in Alistair's butt. Which is entertaining.

I don't think Morrigan is evil. I also don't think she's someone I'd willingly entrust world shaping power to. She tends to lack compassion for those weaker than herself.

She is self serving and uncaring in general. She suspects Flemeth would go after her at some point, and thinks she can get rid of her.

I remember her speaking up,about confronting the demon in the fade, for connner. I don't think she is evil, I would say grey. If you take the freindship path she says at the end " a freind, and I will always consider you such."

She also refers to you as a sister,if your a female warden. At the end of origins she seems somwhat conflicted and sad, about leaving in her dialogue. On the romance path, she also has a possesive/jealous banter with lelliana.

Regardless,It's hard to place her in either catagory.

Good and evil are foolish little notions for foolish little people so that they can comfort themselves and justify their MURDER.

Whether she is "good" or "evil" is exactly the same as asking if someone likes (good) or dislikes (evil) her... absolutely meaningless.
"Good" and "evil" are just subjective extremes that humans place upon things they find favorable or unfavorable.

She is, simply, herself. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm not so sure if I would describe Morrigan as being pragmatic. A pragmatic psychopath is manipulative and clever. Morrigan on the other hand is rude, impulsive and impatient.

I think both her & Flemeth are trying to do something good, but Mori thinks Flemeth is up to no good. I think Flemeth needs to keep her in the dark for her plan to fall into place.

I remember the touching scene of Morrigan tearing up by the fire after my elf rogue gave her the mirror. She called my rogue the sister she never had. *Sniffle.*

Later, we go to the alienage and the Tevinter mages offer to bribe my rogue for their lives by sacrificing her father and her friends in a blood magic ritual that will give her some cool super powers. After her rogue "sister" turns the mages down, Morrigan gave a hissy fit.

"Good" and "evil" are barometers to judge people based their willingness to place others before thenselves, or willingness to sacrifice others for their own benefit. Morrigan is EVIL. She may not be insane and off her rocker and raving, but she is only willing to help others if she can benefit.

But what of all her crying and sniffling and proclamations of love for the warden?

"Oh! [The dog] is just being manipulative! I should know; I do it too!"

I had one male Warden STUPID enough to go through the mirror with her. Once on the other side, and away from his mabari guardian, she killed and ate him. Then she sacrificed their child as part of some blood magic ritual to absorb the old god's powers so she can challenge Flemeth.

That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

Is Morrigan good or bad? *laughs* She is a girl who thinks she knows what is what better than I, or anyone. And why not? I raised her to be as she is, I cannot expect her to be less.

You know what Flemeth and Morrigan are? They're a damn fine comedy duo. That whole "peace of the grave" bit in the Korcari Wilds had me in stitches!

I don't know if she's your daughter or your enemy!

Morrigan is certainly not good, I would lean towards evil, but she hasn't done anything to cement that. She is certainly selfish, cold and cruel, but that doesn't make a person evil; it just makes them a jerk. Like Abispa said, Morrigan will only help someone if she is getting something out of the deal, even going as far as to walk out on the Warden she was suppose to be in love with, if she doesn't get her way.

I wouldn't even say she's cruel really.  More like Ruthlessly Pragmatic.
