Maybe.

I really want the story of Shepard and the Reapers to be entirely wrapped up when ME3 ends, and it would only damage the series if ME4 was about 'an even bigger threat'. If it was a prequel, or a new type of game like an RTS or a shooter then sure. Even if it stayed pretty much the same I'd buy it, but as long as it had a good story and didn't just exist for the sake of it.

Probably. However, I have bailed mid-series when I think a story is off the rails.

Assuming the Reapers are beaten in ME3, though, it would be tough. They could do a S5 of B5, where they do a scouring of the shire wrap-up, which I would enjoy. I can't see them doing that, though.I don't think enough people would enjoy it.

No, for reasons stated in the OP. I love Mass Effect and am looking forward to the conclusion, but I'm not certain how long I can hold my interest. I'd rather see more new IPs from Bioware.

Only if the Reaper story arc is finished in ME3 and BioWare can manage to give Shepard's story a good ending. So no Revan ending where Shepard heads off into deep space in search for the last few Reapers and is never seen again...<_<

As long as they don´t make it an MMO (fat chance), I´ll buy it.

I´m actually so annoyed at the fact that Star Wars: TOR is one, I´d even have to think hard about buying a KOTOR sequel.

~edit~

Addendum: But only If ME3 is good and if neither game uses Origin.

I´d like to see a satisfying end to Shepards story, but I´d probably even buy it if ME3 isn´t the last we see of him. Under the aforementioned conditions, of course.

I'd rather see a new IP from BW, as many have said. It's true the universe is humongous, and many stories could spring from it, but it won't be the same without Shepard. Imagine this: from fighting kilometer-long, million years old, sentient dreadnoughts bent on the utter destruction of intelligent life in the galaxy to killing mercs for fun on some godforsaken space station. They could do it, but to convince me to buy it, it has to be superior to Shepard's arc storywise and gameplay-wise.

You know what? I think I'd rather see a ME4 with Shepard, carrying over all of our decisions from ME1, to a post-ME3 setting, years in the (relative) future fighting some unknown danger, maybe extragalactic. It sucks, I know that, and the fact that BW is even more creative than me is a good sign. But nevertheless, who knows how anything would turn out?

Depends on how much I like Mass Effect 3 and what Mass Effect 4 is about.

Right now, probably not. I like closure, that is assuming Mass Effect 3 will give closure and not leave things ambiguous on purpose for justifying a sequel.

Depends on how it sounds.

Take Mass Effect Galaxy for instance. Love ME, but can't stand Jacob. Not getting it. If it were any other character, I may have.

Ah misrepresenting people. A true skill.

In any case since I have no info on ME4, I can't say. For all we know ME "4" will be an action-adventure game where you play as an asari archeologist or something.

Or maybe it will be a racing game in vein of star wars podracing.

Hey i still have the pod racing game in my N64 and it's cool sure i crash 9 out of 10 times because it goes to fast and you can't turn but it's goodImage IPB

Or would you consider it too much at that point?

I'm just curious :P

Not if Shepard isn't in it.  At least not at full price 10-20 bucks use.

See no reason why not. The Star Trek and Star Wars franchises has gone on for decades, and I find them far less compelling then ME.

Seeing as I already own all Mass Effect games (with the exception of ME3, I'm waiting to see how the Origin/Steam thing turns out before I preorder), the answer is a resounding yes. I love this series to pieces.

I'm annoyed by all the people thinking you have to "top" the reapers for a story to be good. that's a very ignorant point of view. I personally would love a game that expands and explores the interactions of the common sentients in the galaxy, kind of like has been said in the 12,000 other threads on this topic, maybe a Mass Effect game as a detective, set on the Citadel. The quality of a story is in no way determined by the size of the villian.

It really depends on the direction the game and the game play goes.

I love the Star Wars galaxy insanely - but there is still a number of games that I probably won't ever own because the story / or game play just doesn't appeal to me.

So long as it's similarly story-driven.

The '4' would make me wary, as I want them to stick to their guns and have ME3 be the end of the Shepard Trilogy. Other than that it would depend entirely on the direction they are taking the franchise in, it's gotten big enough that at this point it could go in any number of directions, some of them bad.

I remain optimistic however, and would even consider picking up a Mass Effect title focused on multiplayer - so long as it was sold as such and considered very much a spin off.

In terms of another epic single player shooterrpg then it would have to have a great idea behind it for me to get truly excited. Kinda like what most directors/screenwriters/actors say after brilliant trilogies... And then go on to make a terrible 4th film anyway. I think it would have to take place a significant time after the Trilogy to really pique my interest, keeping the ME indentity but distancing it from Shepard and such. A new protagonist would be a must.

I'm not sure if I'll be buying any BioWare game post-ME3, even in the Mass Effect universe, considering what they've done to Revan in TOR.

Funny fact.

Revan was male by canon long before TOR was even known in public.

As long as the new protagonist isn't advertised as "The best person in the galaxy, better than Shepard!" I'm all for it.

That's what bothered me most about DA2, the fact that Hawke is seen as the most important person in Thedas (or so the Seeker says something similar). I felt my Warden was more heroic in saving the world, and Hawke was just caught up in political turmoil.

So as long as ME4 doesn't sport someone who's "More important/better than Shepard", I'll be okay. Remember, Bioware: You can fight like a Krogan, you can run like a Leopard, but you'll never be better than Commander Shepard!

Has nothing to do with gender, actually. As an avid KotOR-KotOR II fan, I knew this long ago. I'm referring to Revan's motives, the fact that Revan is even in TOR and that you can kill him, and so on.
