I haven't played a computer game in nearly a year, so I've really been itching to play a good game -- and since I just finished Martin's "A Dance with Dragons" novel I'm looking for a good fantasy title.  I've played WoW and other MMOs but I'm looking for an immersive game that feels more... realistic... and less like a theme park.

On a related note, my wife and I recently found that there is a medieval-themed restaurant in our area and we thought it would be fun to have an all day event with another couple we know, who enjoy Rennaissance Fairs and that kind of thing.  So the plan is that we will play a good fantasy game all day and then have dinner at the restaurant to cap off the evening.

Will Never Winter Nights 2 give us the experience we want?  (There doesn't seem to be a demo, so I figured I'd ask in this forum.)

Also, are there any persistent gameworlds that would be appropriate?  I'd love to have an adventure that we could complete in four or five hours...

How about A Game of Thrones PW? Would that be a good enough reason to buy it? :)

I saw that!!  Unfortunately, there is no projected release date yet.  I neglected to mention in my previous post that the "party" is for my 50th birthday.  So I can't really push the date back.    In any event, that PW definitely has me interested in the game itself.

I played a demo of NWN 1 way back in the day (shortly after launch, I think) but the camera controls drove me crazy.  I also know that NWN 2 had sort of a rocky release, with camera issues, bugs, etc.  Have most of those problems been ironed out now?

The camera still sucks IMO, but the game has improved a lot from its release. Nevertheless, I think the game is worth purchasing considering what you'll get for $20.

I don't think a PW would be the best option for a single roleplay session. That's really a longer term character building and gaming experience. But for a single session? Try the original campaign. You won't have to download anything to play and you can work through the game with your wife at your own pace. It has a good story and includes options for romance. ;)

Happy 50th.

The camera itself is not that bad, it's the default settings which suck. If you hated the NWN1-style controls, you may hate these, but you have a few options to switch between. If you take a little bit of time to experiment and set it up right, it's not so bad. Yeah, kinda sucks that you have to do that, but at least after that it's bearable.

Check out nwn2.wikia.com/Camera for a bit of an explanation (not the best laid out maybe, but you get the gist of it).

NWN and NWN2 offer what few other games offer - hundreds of free games for download. The community is constantly producing new adventures which have much more depth and flavor than those which are produced for retail. Unless you and your friends are acquainted with NWN2, it may be a bit difficult to have a party in which you all play. It takes awhile to catch on to it, but if you are a quick study, it may work.

I asked about this in the modules thread, but perhaps I should have posed my question here, instead.

Can anyone recommend a good multiplayer adventure that would be good for 3 to 4 players? (Who are all very new to the game.)

Thanks for the replies so far!

Icewind Dale NWN2
Good conversion thats lots of fun to play.
http://nwvault.ign.c...h.detail&id=346

Legacy of White Plume Mountian
More of a sandbox to explore but very well done

Goblin Bandits of the Delimbiyr Route
Good fun adventure

All the above are good for a number of 2-3 hour sessons and a group of 3-4 players will find they give a decent challange.

I can recommend the Wulverheim Demo  nwvault.ign.com/View.php  It will offer you the experience of an online PW in a smaller singleplayer environment.  If you can set up a LAN with your friends and family, it should work well for you.

Although once I release the full size version, that should be even more coop friendly than the demo, especially as far as death and respawning is concerned.
