Would money even be of value to them given the fact that mages are essentally in prison and can't buy anything?

Mages can buy stuff for themselve. Probably not in Kirkwall, but the other Circles allow mages to buy items for personally use. That could include clothes, books, and staves (maybe). It seems that mages can also gather wealth as well, or the Lucrosians wouldn't exist.

Except they can and do, they have an entire fraternity devoted to money.

Yes, but where do they buy stuff., In Kirkwall I could see (pre-Meridith) from other merchant coming to the Gallows, but take Fereldan the circle: it was isolated there was no shop. Also it seems that staves and books and clothes are handed out according to rank. Owain said that the storeroom was free to take what you wanted from if you had the right permit.
As for Lucrosians. Well mages are human. There have always exitsted humans who like to gather money and just store it for the sake of storing it.
Given the fact that it is the fewest mages who are store-keepers I doubt that it is the fewest mages that have any sort of income and thus everything has to be provided for them.

My best guess is that merchants come to the Ferelden Circle every once in a while. The Circle has to restock. So, i'm sure there is a small caravan of merchants that travel there with their goods once or twice a year. That and since Redcliff is so close by, i'm sure the Circle trades with them as well.

You better believe is there is coin and profit in the Circle, the merchants will find a way to peddle their products there one way or another. Image IPB

This is a non-sequitor.  We know that the rules for mages vary greatly from circle to circle largely based on the Knight Commander.  I believe that the Fereldan mages can buy and sell items (and indeed both times...DAO and Witch Hunt we find a merchant in the circle itself) but it doesn't follow that all circles are this way.  Also the presence of a fraterity that advocates capitalism as a way to advocate mage interests does not in of itself prove that mages can have money or buy things.  The Lucrosians make a strong case that all mages, not just tranquil, should be permitted to enhance the profitability of the circle and thus give a positive view of magic.  That doesn't mean the local Knight Commander agrees.....

That's probably the most likely explanation.  Since the tower's on an island (so the mages can't easily run off), it wouldn't be that big a deal to let the mages out of the tower to look at the goods of traveling merchants.  The Templars would be watching, of course, and it might be a privilege accorded only to senior enchanters, but it would be allowed.

Also, the Ferelden's circle can't be that isolated since there's an inn at the docks.  You can't support an inn without either a town or a lot of people passing through.

Don't forget Godwin. He was running a lyrium smuggling operation for the templars and making a huge fortune on it from Orzammar. And I don't see him ever leaving the tower.

i don't want to murderknife people unless they attack me or are acting heinous in some way, but i'm just all reasonable like that.  especially since Hawke has the option of trying to convince her to chill out a bit.

however, i did jump out of my chair and point at my screen yelling something along the lines of "i knew i couldn't trust you, you crazy orleasian religious nut-job!" when she talked about Kirkwall "falling to magic."  but, ya know.

I'm not sure I felt a burning need to kill her. I did facepalm over the lack of writing integrity associated with completely needless retcons. Seemed like fanservice to the detriment of immersion.

Killing Leliana in Faith wouldn't have worked as it didn't in leaving her die in Lothering and killing her in the Urn...she is the Wonderwoman of DA, will keep respawning always, like Anders...

That said by the time I reached Faith she would have single handed one shooted each of the Hawke Crew, so no , I would rather not fight her at that point...she killed a friking archdemon for crying out of loud...
