I've installed the game once before and never had a problem with it on this laptop. That was almost a year ago and it's been uninstalled/deleted for about 8 months. I decided I was going to play again but it won't even install. When I start the install it says insert Disc 2, I do, but it won't register that it's in. My computer sees it, I can explore the disc and all that, but the NWN Gold Edition installer doesn't register it as being there for some reason.

I scanned this forum and found this thread: http://social.biowar...-3341490-1.html :but following the instructions found hither did nothing for me. Taking an idea from it, I explored into the Disc 1 folder and set the setup.exe to run in compatibility mode, but no luck.

At my wits end here. Why won't it get passed Disc 2? I have a real, legit copy, the CD's are fine.
Using Windows 7, 64bit edition and I swear I installed it abotu a year ago and it worked just peachy.

I guess the most obvious question would be: What has changed on that laptop in the past year?

Eg. Hardware upgrades, driver changes, new service pack, etc.

Can you install it normally with these discs on another machine?  I would check this before considering other possibilities.

Well I'm continuously getting updates every couple days/weeks from Microsoft. Other than that I haven't upgraded the hardware or anything like that.

Okay tried it on another pc, a windows vista OS, and it worked, the install did. So the CD's are fine. Just need to know what's hanging up on my system. Maybe the previous uninstall didn't go correctly, could that be a thing? Why isn't it accepting Disc 2?

Also, I don't actually get the chance to do "Custom" install, it's just "Install", although I can change the directory -- the directory is already set at C:/NeverwinterNights by default.

TBH, if I was caught in your situation, rather than trying suggestions that may or may not work (naturally, you are welcome to wait if you prefer), I would follow Shia's stickied procedure and copy the successful installation from the Vista machine. I've used a flashdrive to copy such a directory already, but make sure to apply the v1.69 patch before the copy.  Then you will be able to play the game without a disc drive.

This doesn't interfere with serial keys from the inside cover of my manual or any... I don't know what they are called, regedit files or whatever?

It won't let me patch it. Says NWN is not installed.
