So I have a nice portable hard drive that I copied my Mass Effect 1 and 2 files from my old computer (Using XP) so that I can hook it up to my laptop (Using VIsta) but for some reason when I try to start them they begin to launch but then stop repsonding.
I've also notice for some reason the uninstall.exe is missing so I'm having a hard time trying to reinstall the game. I know I can go to add/remove programs but I can't find my discs for ME2 and the laptop I'm using isn't hooked up to the internet though I can if I have to redownload ME 2 from the site. But I'm worried I'll lose my saves.
Trying to play with portable hard drive

You only copied the files, and not the required registry entries. When you install thegame, it creates these registry entries soi the various programs and utilities know where to look for the required files.
Hook your laptop up to the net, download and install Origins, enter your ME2 product code into it, and you can then download and install ME2.
Unfortunately, according to reports ME1 isnt available this way via Origins, although a few people have had success speaking to EA support, and getting them to add ME1 to their Origins account manually.
Once you have installed both, copy the entire directory structure from your desktop "My Documents" into the laptop's "My Documents". This will bring over all your saves, as well as your profile which contains your achievements.

You'll also need to ensure that any DLC packs are installed on the laptop and activated before attempting to load your saves. If you don't then the game will refuse to load the save stating that required content is missing or not activated. I know this because it happened to me when I transferred all my ME2 save games onto my desktop PC but had forgotten to install my DLC.
