That doesn't look bad at all, the sleek and sexy armor.
Besides, all Shepard has on is some kind of bullet proof vest it seems (He's oversexualized now!) so that lend credence to the theory that she is wearing that because she wasn't expecting a combat situation to go down.

So where's Kaidan's sleek and sexy armor?  Why doesn't his shining plate get a V-neck and garters? 

As to not expecting a combat situation, like, say, Miranda on Lazarus station?  Or Jacob?  Bioware's got this obsession with "iconic looks" now.  I think we're going to find costume changes (like Aveline in Lothering) to be a rarity from here on out.  Which means in all probability, Ash's flowing locks and "sleek and sexy" look are not a noncombat or an alternate appearance.  She's expected to fight the Reapers in that.

no, his outfit should get a crotch piece that allows his manhood to hang free.
as for her fighting the Reapers like that, you only live once and she may as well look good when I nuke her

To be fair, most military regulations require those hair-styles, and for good reason. Helmets don't fit right over longer, bushier hair, and long, loose hair presents a very real hazzard both in firefights and when fighting fires, if you're trying to get a seal on your oxygen source.

I wouldn't have minded the pony-tail look at all for Spectre Ash, because while it is outside of military regs, most likely, it is still perfectly practical and wouldn't hinder her significantly.

Rather it be this way than the other way around.  I'm sure a lot of us wanted to be wrong.  I certainly did.

EDIT: Though I will be really sore if I have to pay extra for it.  I'll buy it and I'll only be half as happy.  Yeah, I know... can't make anyone happy.  C'est la vie.

The thing is I didn't understand why some people seem bent on believing that bioware would just give Ashley one set of armor that is light when they know how people complained about  Miranda to the point where they made a DLC armor for her.

"Armor" has lately been a very flexible term.  Garrus wore Armor.  Grunt wore armor.  But then, Samara wore armor, as did Jacob.  Heck even Kasumi wore armor, though it was very light.  "Armor" could have meant any style from Tela Vasir to Varric Tethras.

She's dead in all of my playthroughs, so unless her hair gives her the ability to come back to life I don't mind it at all. It's quite nice actually, I'd like something simular for one of my femsheps.
