She looks more feminine? Meh, she hardly look any different. Just a bit hotter (though I have a thing for chicks with long enough hair).

And now you see my problem.

It's like the rule of women in videogames is ****** or GTFO.  Sorry, can't have a uterus unless you're super-hot.

We don't have proof of that yet.  Until there is, I'm going to pretend he just said it to get people to calm down.

so casey hudson lied then? really?

I don't give two f*cks about her hair, seriously (apart from it might get in her face and obstruct her vision but meh we have space magic).  It's the underlying principle that bothers me.

So whats the problem then? The principle that women in games cant have long hair?  Or that her breasts got slightly bigger?  Chill out a bit, were talking about pixels

Not like there's an abundance of not super-hot male characters.  Though features considered attractive in men tend to be less obviously impractical for combat.

Grunt, Wrex, Mordin, Zaeed, and Garrus are not "hot" in the classical sense.  The fangirling over Garrus largely happened by accident.  Kaidan pretty much looks like a normal guy (with puppy eyes), James Vega is beefy yet kinda homely, and the only two that are obviously super-sexed-up are Jacob and Thane.

The ratio is a little unbalanced.

Femshep, Liara, Jack, half the female nps, Ashley in ME1 and ME2- examples of females who are not sexed up

There are just as many unnatractive women as there are men

We're talking about pixels with a lot of personality, and a company that has taken huge steps forward when it comes to gender equality in videogames.  We're talking about the recurring problem of unrealistic portrayal of women in the media.

I liked Mass Effect because it didn't pander to the male gaze.  Mass Effect 2 ditched that, and it frustrated me to no end.  I don't want ME3 to make it worse.  These ladies are supposed to be warriors, not fashion show contestants.  Believe it or not, women can be hot and badass in armor and/or normal clothing.

I know because I like women.

^this

e.g. I think Ashley looks great in ME1 in the heavy armour, and to take things to the extreme, I think ME1 Liara wearing the light armours in that game looks way better than that kotobuyika statue with the massive bowling ball ******, long legs, heels and hips.

Jack's half-naked.

Although I love their portrayal of FemShep.  Huzzah, gender neutrality!  Now let's extended that a little, hm?

I'm not saying T&A is evil and should be eliminated, but for f*ck's sake tone it down a little.  Anthing more than what ME2 had is beyond my limit.

Has he acctively lied, or was it soemthing he said would be in a game and they later cut it.  And did I say women weren't attractive in armour? No I didn't.  Type in female soldiers on google images and youl find plenty of attractive and unnatractive women in uniform.  And me1 pandered to the male gaze, the asari are a race of hot space lesbians.

Or simply place T&A in places where it makes sense. I would not mind all those outfits if it were they casual clothes. I would infact be pretty happy if Bioware had unique outfits for squadmembers both off-duty and on the battlefield.

Jack is also, in my opinion, fugly so I would prefer that she put some clothes on. And it was abit OTT in ME2, but I still don't see how 'sexing' ashley up is a bad thing

Oh, I forgot about the asari.

Yes, you should have seen my face when I first learned about them.

But somehow, they turned the idea of "hot space lesbians" on its head and made them an interesting race.  They used the idea of a mono-gendered society to raise all sorts of philosophical questions, and they made fun of themselves the whole time.  They gave us characters like Aria and the bartending matriarch (can never spell her name right) to turn them into something other than horny strippers and presented it well enough that you could overlook the fanservice.

But Miranda?  That was just tacky.  Her visual presentation undermined her character instead of complimenting it.  I'm worried the same might happen to Ash.

And they need to dress Jacob sensibly, too.  Poor fellow looks absurd in that spandex.

So why'd you comment here?

Cause there were people talking about Vega being the new tank.

Oh yeah Grunt was the tank in ME2. I would say I prefer Grunt over Vega but I don't know anything about him so I won't pass judgement about who's better just yet.

Jack ugly?

Really, she's not my "style", but to call Jack ugly is to be impaired with damaged eyes or some kind of brain damage that induces errors in beauty analysis.

I'd bet that if she had a different hair style, you'd be amazed (but so is the problem of bald women).

See, I think Jack is beautiful (but not for the naked--it's that gorgeous face and petite form that do it for me).  However, she still gets the booby-zoom, poor kid.

The problem with the Ashley redesign is that it clashes with her established character.  Repeatedly in ME1, she made comments about how getting all sexed up was ridiculous and not worth her time, especially on the battlefield.  It was one of the reasons I admired her character.  The "new" Ash doesn't mesh well with that.

Like I said, I'll get over it as soon as I see that armor.  The outfit looks good, but it's not the type of thing she would wear into battle.  When you compromise a character for the sake of looking nice for the boys, you get things like Miranda, who took forever to take seriously because this happened all the time.

Really?  I thought Miranda was funny, whenever the camera was on her arse it was hilarious, just laugh at it - makes it better.  Fact is, most gamers are male so all companies want to encourage their largest audience.  Its just business.  I just think you should be impressed weve got the femshep thing sorted out.   Sometimes this fanbase acts like an overzealous union wanting pay rises

Didn't Casey or another dev/writer say they would show Ash in proper armor(And more of Vega) 'Very soon' like 2 months ago? I trusted his word back. Defended it in that huge thread about Ashleys new look, but after waiting so long im starting to believe it was a lie..

It was funn once or twice, but then it got really annoying.  Kind of like the one guy with the whiny voice telling the same joke over and over.  After a while, you just want to punch him.

But here's the thing--if you continue to appeal to the status quo, you only encourage more shallowness and stupidity.  See: reality TV.

The camera work with Miranda is also bad when games are still not taken serious as an art form, ass-shots like when she is talking about her kidnapped sister just makes the medium seem immature.

Anyone can feel free now to say I've "dropped my man card", but I actually found the arse shots infuriating, plus the fact that they were on show all the time in her normal outfit. I hated it to the point that I have to put her in her AAP armour (which looks x100000000 times better) just so I'm not cringing every time I talk to her.

@Lizardviking - the medium is immature. It's a very young medium - and needs decades.

The fact that it could excel beyond movies and achieve the level of books (or "maybe" even exceed books) in the level of artistic gravity - makes the current level of expression in these games that much more infantile.

Just stick her in the armour then, its what I did.  And to be frank, I don't have much problem with the status quo as women's representation in games seems to be something which each developed has to make a decision of on their own.  Call of Duty doesn't have any female characters, while GOW3 does.  Its each developer's choice.  I don't moan that every englishmen in games is a cockney from the East End
