Just stick her in the armour then, its what I did.  And to be frank, I don't have much problem with the status quo as women's representation in games seems to be something which each developed has to make a decision of on their own.  Call of Duty doesn't have any female characters, while GOW3 does.  Its each developer's choice.  I don't moan that every englishmen in games is a cockney from the East End

Thank you for not caring about social issues and completely missing the point.

Your welcome.  Its not exactly a social issue is it.  Were not talking about discrimination in the work place or racsim within the game.  Its some women characters who have large breasts

If you simplify it to that degree then of course it isn't an issue to you.

Enlightening educational material.

That which applies to advertisements also applies to videogames.

It's moved beyond that to bigger, more encompassing issues.

That is what I was talking about. That is a simplification of the issue that people have with Ashley's new look.

In what way does advertising a product such as buetey (whereby an attractive person doing the advert would encourage some people to form the opinion that the product will make them likewise) have anything to do with women's presentation in games?

You need to look at it from someone else's perspective.  I'm a woman, and I'm also attracted to women (and men lol bisexuality), so maybe I'm lucky in that I can see both sides relatively easily.  Like you, I enjoy looking at pretty things.  However, I also have to draw the line when how someone looks is treated as more important than who they are.  Now, just because I can look beyond appearances and appreciate the character myself does not give any self-respecting game developer and excuse to pander to horny teenage boys.  I like to tell my friends how "smart" Mass Effect is as a series--it's a great selling point for them as well as myself--and I can't do that when T&A suddenly becomes the focus.

Also, poor Jacob needs better clothes, too.

Watch.  The whole.  Thing.  You obviously have the time if you're goofing off here.

I never actually noticed it before until you said this but it seems Jacob fills the same role for women that Miranda does for men.

What difference does your sexuality have to the discussion? GOW has giant hulking rugby players as characters, but men don't get worked up over it.  And how, in any way was miranda's looks treated more importantly than her character.  I loved her character but never romanced her, and suggesting so is almost suggesting that attractive people must therefore be uniteresting.  And they have every excuse to, its their creation and they can do whatever they want with it.

I guess most of the ladies on here never got a look at his abs or something.

I watched about 6 minuets, her voice irritated me.  It was quite interesting though

Going off of no real research whatsoever apart from what I've seen in some threads and in some fanart discussion, his outfit seems to appeal more to the gay male than to the straight female.

It highlights the stereotypical masculine ideal with its deliberate use of slimming black on his sides, coupled with the contrasting white.  He looks like an upside down triangle.  He's got the v shape down.

Mind you, I'm not complaining.  It's nice to see different varieties of fan-service.

I think because that was the point of Gears of War, the stereotypical action hero with big muscles and big guns. No offense to the series but Mass Effect seems to be a lot more sophisticated than that.

For some reason, this post pisses me off.

Uh-uh, not me. Jacob is smexy.  Although admittedly, I did try all the romances. ;)

Edit: Although I must admit, despite Jacob's smokin' hot body (ignoring his awful teeth), his healthy personality is what attracted me more to him, ultimately. I didn't have to play Ms. Fixit. Does my femShep ALWAYS have to be the freakin' hero?

But thats just as much a fallacy as all women being attractive, so why don't people get worked up about that?

Didn't Casey or another dev/writer say they would show Ash in proper armor(And more of Vega) 'Very soon' like 2 months ago? I trusted his word back. Defended it in that huge thread about Ashleys new look, but after waiting so long im starting to believe it was a lie..

Actually the word "proper" was never used.  Only that Ash would have armor and a helmet.  We're yet to see either, but technically, she could have Samara's "spilloutl" look and it his statement would still be the technical truth.

IMO, Ash never needed "prettying up" She was attractive in a natural "mere mortal" way.  If they wanted to change her look, fine.  But this level of glamming up is painful to see.  The Ash we knew was practical, hard nosed, and direct.  She cared little what others thought of her.

Ash letting her hair down isn't a big deal.  People change hair styles all the time.  The problem is wearing the hair loose.  That's not practical.  The trailer demonstrates it, the hair falls across her face, and can easily obscure her eyes.  In a gunfight that's neiother practical nor atttractive.

Hair in a bun, in a ponytail, in a braid, or even multiple braids are fine.  Long and loose is just stupid.  Nothing more than an excuse to go "Look at the kewl stuff we can do with hair now!

Same with the rest of her look.  Ash is a professional soldier.  The admittedly brief looks that we've gotten portray her more as a secretary with a rifle.  Compare her to the ME2 squad.  The "straight up punchers" in that group were characters like Grunt, Zaeed, maybe Garrus.  All wearers of "real armor"  What we've seen of Ash is more along the lines of Kasumi, the professional thief!

To me Ash is kind of a litmus test for ME3.  If I can be shown that Ash is still the professional soldier from the first two games, and that includes in appearance, then I can have some faith that Bioware is taking the series seriously.  That it's not pendering to its audience and is treating us and the material in a mature fashion.  If Ash is being sexed-up as part of a bigger money-grab.  Well...

Better than spillin' drinks on the Citadel, that's for sure. Mmmpf.

I guess I should have explained that better; I was referring to Jacob's emotionally healthy personality.
