OP is correct. If I would be asked which one to suggest it would be TW2. DA2 is just too mediocre. In TW2 the feeling of the world is adult one and you have this feeling that sh*t is going to rain on you any minute now. Atmosphere people.
What made the Witcher 2 so much better than Dragon Age 2?

All this talk of Witcher has encouraged me to buy the Witcher 2 actually. I bought Witcher 1 not long ago (but havn't had the time to play it yet), i also plan to buy Witcher 2. Only because both games are talked about so much on these forums.

Well i got The Witcher 2 premium edition 2 days ago with the bonus DVD and game music DVD some daft little coin and 2 papercraft things are included having played upto the 1st big boss battle before being trapped in a game bug where your pinned into a corner till you die even with the latest patches i can say this,
The Witcher 2 is a traditional RPG DA2 to isnt its an action RPG therefore you can not compare the 2 as they are completely different just as DAO can not be compared to DA2 for the same reason, so yes i think this is yet another trolling thread by a disgruntled DAO fan.
By all means criticise a game but stop and think of a relevant game to compare it to before you go off on a rant

It was made with care, and they didn't dumb everything down in the assumption that their target audience are a bunch of morons.
It is a better game. Almost every aspect of it is better. Whether you like it better or not is the only thing that is subjective.
And they are more than comparable. Hell, the Witcher 2 even starts with a "framed narrative" and they are both cut into acts (the same amount, even).
Oh, Bioware fanboys, you never cease to appall me.

There is a lot of things....
Most importantly for me is the world. TW2 had a world that was very easy to buy into and become immersed in.
The world of DA2 was just awful. I didn't feel like kirkwall was a real place... just a shell. Considering bioware are usually so good at world building this was quite shocking.
Examples of this are
There was the attention to detail that TW2 delivered which was totally lacking in DA2. Note that most of the things i mentioned above were in DA:O...
Now on top of this add gorgeous graphics and a coherent story and yeah it wipes the floor with DA2...

Examples of this are
- exploding enemies
- parachuting ninja enemies
- dead NPCs standing around mute for 10 years in the same spot
- An unchanging city devoid of all life
- Companions what would only talk to you at certain times
- 1 dimensional antagonists
- unexplained plot devices(I am looking at you lyrium idol)
- butt ugly elves
- A protagonist who we never learned ANYTHING about
- There were beautiful areas to explore
- There was crafting
- There were living markets
- There were mini games in bars
- Three dimensional characters and enemies (compare orsino and meredith to lotho, iorveth etc from tw2)
- There was a world that unfolded before you
- There was a beautiful UI
- There was MEANINGFUL choice that impacted the story and the world
- There were BOOKS that you could read
- There was a gritty dark feel to the world
- A protagonist whose past and present is detailed to us

It certainly looks better and has a few (really only a few) meaningful choices.
The rest is up to personal taste.
I did not find the story very interesting, but at least it was told well. I also thought Geralt's "followers" are pretty boring...
imo most gameplay aspects were pretty ... bad ... combat, inventory management, crafting/alchemy, character development... nothing was anywhere near "impressive".
And of course Quick Time Events. I hate them... picking a dialoge option within a certain timeframe... srsly

Let me just add as well that I have been playing arkum asylum recently and again the detail in the world they have created for me is just amazing...
This is such a huge part of "losing myself" in a game and DA2 failed horribly in this regard.

I've read many times that DA2 main problem was "lack of time". I don't agree with it (But, yeah, it's true that it's a rushed game), the main controversie with DA2 with hardcore RPG gamers came from the decision to "make the game more accesible", "try to attract a wider audience", "we want COD's audience", instead of taking DA:O and make a deeper and more complex gaming experience they did just the opposite!
As I've said many times:
DA:O: Burton's Batman
DA2: Schumacher's Batman (trying to appeal a wider audience, that was, in fact, WB's intention)
DA3: ¿Nolan's Batman? I hope so, but I'm not very confident.....

Do buy witcher 2, it is well worth it, considering the price has dropped on the game and there have been patches and balances implemented and a rather large 2.0 download coming in the next few days; which adds a load of new content for free, along with all the previous DLC from retailers which was released, for free.
Have a look at the FAQs on the witcher forum to make sure you can play the game though as it is demanding, but if you have a machine that can play it on high settings it looks amazing. I played it only on medium, until I can finish my new computer, but it is still impressive. have a look for some videos you can get a decent feel for what you will enconter and if you might enjoy it.

the overall length of the game is about as half as Dragon Age 2.
lol. Completing Act 2 with Roche, with every sidequest, is about as long as completing DA2 without any sidequest.

-It Looks WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY Better.
-It's has a much more alive world
-It's not Rushed and it was made with Care
-Twice as Much Depth in the RPG elements
-Decicions make a BIG impact
-It is an ACTUALLY personal, well crafted Story, instead of pretentious one like in DA2 where you don't even learn ANYTHING about the main character.
Personal Story? my ass
-It has Balls
-A More wide storytelling
-it has a much more beliable world
-Antagonist that actually have story and are threedimensional (Compare Orsino with Ioveth, the difference it's clear)
-A Much better crafted artistic style, maybe not Original, Quality over Originality.
Phew, i could go on for Hours, but those are just off the top of my head
