The OP's pumpkin carving of the Piano Cat is a thousand times better than the Piano Cat itself... so you haven't missed much.

how long did it take?

I don't think it took longer than an hour or two.  I started both at around 3pm and ended before the sun set.  After the keyboard cat warm-up, I was on a roll.
