Hi All,
Starting to try out other classes in ME 2, since I played Vanguard for the two games. I am quite interested in building an Infiltrator. Most of the posts I've read here make use of the Cryo Ammo (regardless of upgrade). Was able to use the Squad version of it on my Vanguard, and there's no doubt it's a powerful skill. Which leads me to my query - I was wondering if there are any effective builds that do not make use of that particular skill. I want to skip the skill altogether and have something different to use to make my build and the squad mix different from the last time. If anyone can point me to the right direction or if you have suggestions of your own please share.
Thanks.

Cryo is good, but if you feel like changing it up, you won't be missing out terribly.
Squad disruptor ammo provides the bonus against shields and synthetics, and provides some CC because once enemies are down to health their weapons overheat when they get shot.
So you could roll, for instance:
Squad Disruptor Ammo
Assassin/Enhanced Cloak
Incineration Blast
Improved AI Hacking
Assassin/Agent
Neural Shock (1 pt)
Or you could always skip AI Hacking all together and invest your points fully into a bonus power. Armor-Piercing Ammo/Warp Ammo/Neural Shock/Geth Shield Boost/Flashbang Grenade are all good bonus powers for Infiltrators.

You can always go for the Widow 1S1K build:
Max:
Disruptor Ammo
Cloak
Operative
Heavy Warp Ammo (or Tungsten Ammo) - bonus power
11 points left

Ah one more thing, I am contemplating on using an Assualt Rifle. I haven't used that particular gun type since I started playing the series.

Then you might like The Agent Infiltrator by Tony Gunslinger, though he does use Cryo.

Was actually thinking in this line:
Max Level
Disruptor [Open to any Evolution]
Tactical Cloak [Still torn between the two. I've been reading different Pros and Cons on both.]
Incinerate [Does Heavy Incinerate help in wittling Armor down?]
Operative [Leaning towards Agent since I will treat sniper as another weapon in the arsenal. I want the fast cooldown]
For the Bonus Power/ Remaining Points:
Maybe this is just my quirk. I don't want to use any Biotic Powers or Enemy Control. I want my Infiltrator to maintain its focus as a Tech/Combat class. So clearly I'm left with Ammo Bonuses and Flash Bang Grenade.
Is there a particular skill which could be considered as general purpose? I'd want to avoid re-training.
Flash Bang seems to be interesting, however, it can delay cooldowns of Cloak.

I'd consider Neural Shock general purpose. Midget cooldown, stuns organics and is all-around great. It won't see any use on Geth missions, but there's what..Four of those? Five with the side mission?

Energy drain could work, although it overlaps with Disruptor a bit... I only use 1 point in cryo on my infiltrator personally. I wouldn't really recommend an additional ammo power

Cryo is a big help for non-sniper focused Infiltrators, but it by no means mandatory.
For sniper Infiltrators, Cyro is generally considered a nuisance, as frozen enemies can fall behind cover.

I only did one playthrough as an infiltrator. Had already done a widow soldier so...
Squad Disruptor Ammo
Assassin Cloak
Heavy Incinerate (I think it was heavy and not blast)
Cryo 1 pt
Improved AI Hacking
Assassin (I think I was assassin and not agent...)
Tungsten ammo
Took AR training and used the Vindicator and Viper.
Incinerate is a very useful skill, and if you level and can help you out especially early when it seems like you are somewhat ammo limited.

Just to add:
Heavy Warp Ammo is popular catchall choice for enemies with armor and barriers,
Incinerate is adequate for shield-busting and CC'ing organics,
Disruptor Ammo is super good vs. synthetics.
IMO CC & damage buffs are really important for Infiltrators since they're pretty squishy and rely on high burst damage, respectively

Actually I withdraw my statement about ammo powers. Tungsten (did you know the element is actually called wolfram?) is beast.

By no means do you NEED Cryo Ammo. Just skip it if you don't want it. No matter if you prefer shotguns or sniper rifles, it's still going to work just fine.
