I was reading somewhere on the forums, that in an interview Casey said that ME3 was going to be more like a war story, and that your old squad mates wouldn't stick around for long. But I thought Mass Effect was already kind of a war story? (The first one at least.) If they make ME3's story turn into a Call of Duty ripoff (which I'm sure they are too smart to do anyways.) I will be extremely dissapointed. I love Mass Effect because of those deeply personal experiences you have with the characters. Please don't change that! PS. I don't really care about shooting Cerberus troops or husks, they're not that interesting anway.

I sure hope too that we will not just visit warzones, because the quest I like the most are the ones where you talk the most and you shoot the less.

Casey basically means the threat is significantly more alarming this time around and you are more than likely to see destruction on a consistent basis throughout the game. You're absolutely right that we've barely seen any story-related elements, but I guess that's just BioWare trying to tone down on spoilers (at least I hope so). So if you're not going to show story, you might as well show gameplay, which is really all they've done up to this point.

So any game that has action--especially a space age game that centers around an upcoming galactic war--equals to that of CoD? Of course they’re going to show the action in the trailers. What else are they suppose to show? Teammates sitting around talking to each other? And of course it’s going to be a war story. They’re not showing many story elements now probably because people complain so much about the spoilers in ME2. It seems they’re damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

“Here is some great info about the story.” = “omg, Bioware, stop showing spoilers“!

“Here is some action features in the game that won’t spoil the story.” = “omg, Bioware, stop being like CoD!”

Well good story don't sell well this time around.
1. Quick action
2. Loot of explosions
3. Sex
4. More explosions.
5. Up to 6 hours
6. no challenge at all

Games today. Deal with it.

Additonally:-

'Bioware shows nothing until release day' = OMG Bioware is dead/bankrupt/doesn't care about ME3 anymore.

Basically people will whinge and complain about everything. Still it keeps the boards alive.

I approve of the current content/product shown/not shown so far. =]

Mass Effect 1: 20,000 lines.
Mass Effect 2: 25,000 lines.
Mass Effect 3: 40,000 lines.

Yeah I don't see the problem.

Bioware listen to fan feedback and react accordingly.
People didn't like the Mako in ME1, so there's no Mako in ME2.
People didn't like the inventory in ME1, so there's no inventory in ME2.
People didn't like the story in ME2, so there will be no story in ME3.

Mass Effect 2 + DLCs was 40,000 lines. Rob corrected that in another tweet.

ME3 IS a war story, no way around that. I only hope that Bioware find a way for action to not contradict the narrative.

Maybe the angry biotics from ME1 are back, and 35000 of that 40k is actually "You will die!"

I think the 40k lines was misinformation, as the one who said it corrected himself not long after that.

Keep on mind there appears to be some kind of major disconnect between the marketing folks and the developers, and what Bioware cherry picks to show people pre-release.

ME1 nor ME2, and especially not DA matched the mental image of the games as presented by the pre-release hype machines, for me anyway. That may be good or bad depending on your point of view, but worth remembering.

Well, would you rather have a small fixed squad like ME 1 had, but then endure the unimaginative raging fury of fans screaming 'Betreyal!!!!' because Bioware didn't make their favourite squad member a party member (even temporal) ?

sorta like you said only with the most popular having a squad that is alqays changing is going to get annoying, can you imagine having to go all around all the star systems just to talk to someone?

The reason Bioware has only really shown combat is because they want to keep a tight lid on story related elements. I wasn't around the forums when ME2 came out, but from what I understand people were furious that trailers were giving away things like the Normandy being destroyed and Shepard dying.

ME2 is said to be around the same length as ME3, with around the same amount of lines of dialogue, if not more. However since we won't be doing loyalty missions this time around, that means most of the dialogue should be towards the main narrative, or at least more interconnected to the main narrative than the loyalty missions of ME2 were.

Surely everyone knew this day would come right? The return of the Reapers has been being hyped since ME1...a galactic war was inevitable. So yes, it will be more of a war story because the Reapers are finally here, and threaten the fate of the entire galaxy, but that doesn't mean the story can't be good. If anything, it's a more interesting premise or base than ME1 (stop rogue Spectre) or ME2 (stop evil race).

I'm a much more a fan of balance between story/combat, but like others stated above, I'd rather be kept in the dark as to the story aspects in order to avoid story spoilers. I'd guess there'd be much more fan hate from spoiling a part of the story than fan hate from being in the dark. Keep up the mystery BW- I trust you to deliver.

I have lost confidence in BioWare and I will not be preordering this game until I have my fears relieved that this isn't a CoD ripoff and that this series truly has gone down the tubes. I have serious doubts already by things I've seen. I have plenty of games I can play until ME3's price drops....Skyrim will take me 5 months and 400 hundred hours, plus after that there is Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and Assassin's Creed: Revelations on the backburner.

I understand the loss in confidence, but don't you think that a 'bad' ME game (however you define 'bad') will still be better than the vast majority of games out there?

Chris Priestly as much said this was likely to be the case of the ME3 marketing strategy a few months ago. I doubt I could find the link if I tried, so take it as you will.

Isn't it just a little bit early to be making these kind of statements, considering we've seen next to nothing of the actual game?
