Casey basically means the threat is significantly more alarming this time around and you are more than likely to see destruction on a consistent basis throughout the game. You're absolutely right that we've barely seen any story-related elements, but I guess that's just BioWare trying to tone down on spoilers (at least I hope so). So if you're not going to show story, you might as well show gameplay, which is really all they've done up to this point.

Don't kid yourself this is going to be a shooter oriented game, they even admited as much when they released me2.  Then for me3 all they've talked about was story combat. The story will exist to usher in the next round of on rail combat or ground combat.

Sounding a little pessimistic whywhywhywhy. I don't think you should judge the game too harshly just yet, a wait and see seems best right now.

I'm just following the trends.  In me2 they talked about how it was darker and more combat driven.  And it was more combat driven, the story suffered.  Me3 they've been showcasing combat and hardly anything else, so guess what I expect ?

Well good story don't sell well this time around.

Except they do.

1. Quick action

And that's bad?

2. Loot of explosions

How do you loot explosions?

Oh, lot of explosions.
Well, ME1 had a lot of explosions as well.

3. Sex

The Witcher 2.

4. More explosions.

You mean more explosion loot?

5. Up to 6 hours

Fallout and The Elder Scrolls sell a lot.

6. no challenge at all

wut?

Games today. Deal with it.

You mean just most known shooters?

^^ This.

And.. maybe I'm missing something but how does "war story" necessarily beget "thoughtless shooter"? Let's consider a few war movies: 'Saving Private Ryan', 'Apocalypse Now', 'Letters From Iwo Jima',  and plenty of others.

In terms of video games, I would put forward that the Elder Scrolls games (especially Obilvion--invasion from other dimension) and many other incredible RPGs are "war stories".

I am not denying that there are a great deal of thoughtless shooters on the market and perhaps that has impacted the game and changed the marketing of ME2 and now ME3--I can't speak to that--but just because there are action elements that doesn't guarantee a downgrade to a bad or even okay or decent story.

Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, and many other epics are, at their cores, war stories. Comparing ME to COD is a gross oversimplification that suggests RPGs should not even attempt to have good action gameplay to compliment the story. Who says it's going to take away from the already amazing story and universe??

And the problem with war stories is what, exactly? I can list numerous films and series that are good war stories and still have a plenty of talking: Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, Paths of Glory, Full Metal Jacket, Inglourious Basterds, Generation Kll, etc. How about, I dunno, not panicking just quite yet. Not that I think they'll achieve anything close to what the above films and series have managed, but having more action doesn't preclude a game from having emotional and intellectual depth.

Oh, I'm panicing. We went from a story with conflict to one with full blown out war and all they're talking about is combat. And temporary (fighting ??) teammates.

whywhywhywhy runs away screaming, "The universe is shrinking, the universe is shrinking!!"

there's story, they've said that you'll be focused more on rallying groups/species to your cause so there's bound to be story elements in there.....

there's no way around the fact that you are at war...i'm not worried about them not finishing up shep's story...

So assuming most people use these forums use these forums for entertainment (or escape from boring work), people take time out of their angst ridden lives to entertain themselves by being angst-ridden?

Mass Effect is my favorite game franchise ever. I like the universe more than Star Wars (I'm 28 so that statement is a big deal). If ME 3 blows, I'll be bummed. But getting worried over a game? Seriously?

given g lucas' tinkering and recent efforts, not a suprise....but funny that you bring him up.....not that it was an epic piece of movie history, but episode III....no matter what one thinks of the acting or writing or special effects, etc....is the perfect example of how a story can be intertwined with a war time setting.....good news is, GL isn't in charge and instead of having to fit it into 2-3 hours, bioware has 40 or so to work with....

Oh I'm worried.  Anytime you see starfox 64 style ground vehicle locked on rails combat in 2011 it's time to be worried.

Yeah. I'm actually one of those wierdos that loved Episode III. Well, except for Vader's  NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!  But seriously, Han did shoot first. I refuse to see it in any other way.Posted Image

Unless you want BioWare to spoil the story, you're not going to get many clear cut examples of the story to prove that ME3 isn't just an action game.

This. Which is why a wait and see approach is best for everyone right now.

They could easily present a trailer that answered some questions that are obvious but not confirmed. This trailer could easily be presented to create more questions then answers, causing great positive speculation all around. But instead they're tuning the combat.

You advertise with Explosions, Stabbing People, Awesome boss fights and the like.

You don't advertise with:

*Traditional Epic Voice Associated with advertising anything particularly epic* "This Winter.. Grow Closer together as a crew, make new friends, touch up with old ones, sensuously rub Medi-Gel with the sexy partner of your choosing in..." *Epic Logo* "MASS EFFECT 3!"

A lot of those lines in ME3 are probably similar lines with different characters if you killed a lot of your squadmates in ME2. (not saying this to bash the game at all)

If you want some serious line duplication, then ME1's just the ticket.  Seriously, the amount of verbatim, copy-paste dialogue in that game is pretty damn huge. It's why you end up with stuff like this:
