Funny thing is the artwork looks more like the art from DA and DA2 than actual anime. I actually like the art for it. However the voice over sucked in the trailer.

A lot of Japanese media uses "English" in their promotions including English speaking actors who sound incredibly bad to American ears. Check out Engrish.com to see some very awkward results. I seriously doubt they will use the same VA for an American release.

Gackt is singing the theme for this? That alone is awesome. I liked the trailer. Of course I'm one of those dirty rotten anime fans. :P

Gackt will never be as good as Masaaki Endoh.

Anyway the movie looks like it got all the feel of Dragon Age right.

But I really hope they get FUNi's best for the dub.

Also people who wonder if Dargon Age came to Japan, it did and sold well from what I know.

Hey, there are tons of artists I prefer over Gackt. Doesn't mean I can't enjoy his music too. Music is a menagerie of aural delights, not a competitive sport. ;)

In any case, I thought the Japanese voicing was okay. Nothing to write home about, but hardly bad. As Chun Hei noted, interspersing English words into Japanese dialogue is a common practice. It's kinda trendy to say certain words in English to seem cool. I'm less enthusiastic in my hopes for the dub. Totally agreed that Funimation better step up or it'll be bad.

Yeah you are right but no one is as GAR as Endoh.

 :wizard:

The Japanese has had random(not all of it random) English words since like 1950's to 1960's if I recall.

FUNi's dubs have been great for like the last 6 years, so I sure they will do a good job I just want the best out of them.B)

You have Mike talking about it here.

Just a few things did you know that Funimation is based in Flower Mound, Texas? They also screwed up their first anime to English show (they fixed it the second time around).

Plus this reminds me of the Dragonlance movie…sorry I had to go throw up after remembering that terrible Dragon movie thing.

Plus Hello? This is being done by the people that brought us Vexille...if that means anything to you. Why couldn't they have done it like oh this? Capt. Picard can do no wrong.:D

Edit: I didn't read the other posts like the IMBD link sorry.

I didn't like the first trailers and videos we had for this, but this new one looks good for me, made me excited for it.

Just wish it was in HD.

Oh, and they need to dub in english and of course using Cassandra VA.

I'll need to see an English trailer. Japanese trailers always make me laugh my ass off.

Typical Japanese animation. Over the top action with minimum dialogues and expository to make the story convincing and deep.
But the dark hair girl who wear plate armor and fight the dragon remind me so much of my Cousland. :crying:
She has the look. And her action is identical to what I envisioned for my Cousland before she died in Alistair's arms. :crying:

Damn... I thought I already forget my DAO story.

The little Japanese dialog was fine in and of itself, although it really drove home to me that the peculiarities of Japanese voice-acting (especially Japan-style vocal badassery) don't go well with Western IP's. Meh. But Cassandra, thou who art one of the few good things Dragon Age II has given us, what have they done to thee? "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!" indeed.

A hah aha ha haha

BWAHAHAHAHAH!

*wipes tear*

Well - its official - there is no future for me with the DA series. Adios Dragon Age. But don't worry - we'll always have Origins.

The trailer was okay... Except the female voice(Cass?) sucked.
I'll reserve my judgement until i watch the movie though. I tend to judge the book by its cover, and i was proven wrong many times by Bioware.

I'm in the boat with the "disappointed" crew on the trailer, this is ridiculous. We can only hope that the deal for the anime was made when plans for DA2 were being finalized, so there is the possibility of a return to the old art style (or an entirely new art style which is still nothing like DA2) as the hybridization of JRPG and WRPG obviously doesn't work. I know it has been said that the hot-rod samurai style is here to stay, but after Skyrim, there may be hope. I certainly hope that there is.

Honestly I don't see what the big deal is. Aside from the Japanese voice acting making me cringe and laugh like crazy -- I've never been a fan of Japanese VA'd trailers and stuff, possibly because of how I can't understand anything and sometimes the voices don't fit -- there didn't seem to be anything wrong with this to me.

It looks pretty Dragon Agey to me. And the voice over is japanese.

Typical broad generalizations. It's just a trailer.

The Kurosawa name-drop was pretty funny.

Also,

*Clip shows of woman in full Plate Armor flipping down cliffs and gracefully slashing random mooks without breaking stride*

Also also, the inherent humor in them making a dragon age anime after all the JRPG complaints. I seriously thought they were trolling people or doing some kind of viral marketing stunt until I saw the IMDB page and realized someone is actually spending money to make this.

Presumably Bioware are thinking "Hey, we might get some japanese people to buy our game" and Funimation are thinking "Hey, we might get some westerners to watch out stuff".

Plus, a decent live action Dragon Age film would require a huge budget and western animation is stuck as a kids medium.

It's really hard keeping up much hope up for the Dragon Age franchise. And I speak as a fan of both DA and anime. This visual style stands for everything I consider wrong with the direction DA has taken, and this ugly cel shading CGI crap represents one of the worst forms of "anime" I can think of, which I'd hardly even call anime. I'm usually trying to approach things with an open mind, but everything I saw, heard and read about this project makes me want to cry.
