I think this is the problem i'm encountering and I failed to successfully search for a topic that addressed this. I'm making a 32 x 32 area and I was hoping to pull back enough to get a birds eye view of the whole thing but as I pull back, all I get is this electric blue solid that covers everything. Sky and fog are turned off.
Does the toolset have some built in view distance? Is it possible to turn it off or pull it way back? It gets to the point that even when I see it from way back, I have to go in pretty close to make it disappear (seems even closer than it had appeared when I pulled back).
Thanks.
How to extend draw distance in toolset

The toolset option is under graphics and is called "area far plane". You can also turn this off fronm the toolset toolbar.
Advice:
32x32 areas are something I would recommend against unless you very specifically need one. Load times are long, performance is bad, among other reasons. Try to stick to 16x16 or under, and if you need more space use a new map. You can put tons of things to do in a 16x16.

In the toolset go to View -> Options and select Graphics on the left hand side. On the right hand side, about half way down is Far Plane, set that to 1000. Then in the toolset toolbar, turn off the "Use Area Farplane" button. You should then be able to zoom out as far as you want.

I did a 32x32 a few months back and almost needed counseling afterward. It took forever to get everything looking right. If you want to make it look good, you are probably looking at a month of just getting the terrain and such set up, not including quests, encounters, dialogue, etc...
It can be done, and it does give quite an effect if you push the fog and far clip back and stand on a mountain and look around, but you really need to make sure that you are up to it.
If you decide to go ahead with the 32x32, may I recommend considering using it multiple times for different quests and such. A large area like that is conducive to re-use. If you do this wisely, a large area *can* become a bit of a time-saver. But there are still the performance issues.

Thanks for all the replies. The 32 x 32 area is the central area of the mod so it will absolutely get a lot of use. I wanted to go big to start just to see what filling that area consists of. If it's too big as I sketch it out, I'll go with a smaller area.

Keep in mind you can do a small city in 16x16.
