I am having a hard time finding the answer to this.

How do I get Isabella to fork over the book without and have a nice ending with her without romancing her?

Can I do this friend or rival regardless?

I am so lost when it comes to her honestly.

Isabela just needs to be over 50% friendship or rivalry and you have to have seen her "Questioning Beliefs" quest that pops up when she hits 50% (in whichever direction) for her to come back at the end of Act 2. No romance is needed for her to return. Her dialogue will be a little different depending on what path (friend/rival) she is on. She still disappears after getting the tome but will come back when you meet up with the Arishok if again, she's over 50% and you did the "Questioning Beliefs" quest. Hope that helps.

On the note of Isabella ...

If I were to replace her and Varric, does she pretty much gain Friendship/Rivlary with the same responses like Varric does?

I have been on the fence to actually use her in my game and wonder if she is worth it.

Isabela doesn't like it if you accept quests with out monetary gain. So any quest that gives you the ability to ask for gold, she'll give you friendship for hitting them. She's also Anti-Slaver, and pro-freewill.

She really doesn't give a **** about mages/templars.

She seems to friendship easiest with purple line responses, much like varric.

She's actually incredibly easy to friend. Rival is the hard one to do. All you have to do is be silly with her and take a few jobs that give you the option to get gold. I usually 50% friend her in three quests/covnersations in Act 2.

She's slightly pro-mage. She'll gain friendship if you help the mages in "Act of Mercy", for example. Taking her to the Fade also really helps to gain friendship/rivalry points.

Eh, only because she's anti-slavery and pro-freewill ;p She's not militant about it like Fenris, Merrill, and Anders are ;p

Well, that's why I used the term "slightly." And being anti-slavery has nothing to do with it; Fenris hates slavery, and he still is anti-mage.
