Pirates already have their hands on the 360 version. I really hope it isn't going to be too bad because I really want Bioware to have a Blockbuster hit so they get massive funding for their next project.

I suspect tis topic is going to be locked, but I just had to voice my opinion on this and I hope at least 1 Pirate reads this and thinks aboue it enough to buy the game. If you don't buy the game there is less chance of their being a next game, and even if there is a next game it would have had less funding because of you.

While I agree that pirating games, or anything, for that matter, is wrong and harmful to the industry, and do not engage in it, I do not think we need to worry about BioWare tanking and not making anymore games. There will be plenty ogf legitimate copies sold to fund more. Between the novels and Collector's Edition and the announced downloadable content, they will have gotten about $110 from me the day I get the game and pay for the first content download.

There was a thread in off-topics awhile ago about some people confessing that this is the first game they are "buying".

I just think is great that microsoft has banned supposedly a lot of consoles this week from xbox live for being modded, wont stop them from pirating but at least they can't connect their systems online now for updates, add on's etc, cheap bastards.

I'm not worried about them tanking because of it. They've never been a mainstream game developer, and DA:O is their first game with major mainstream appeal. It's a huge step for them as a developer and every sale counts.

You're wrong to assume all pirates "dont care". Im sure many of them use the forums and It's possible they may have just not considered the consequences.

Bioware, Blizzard, and Valve make games worth paying for. Everyone else, not so much.

Hope you know that you could very well be banned for this topic.

Uh, I would say Mass Effect already had more mainstream appeal then even this game will.

I really doubt that, I didn't see much of anything about Mass Effect on gaming publicity sites and magazines, where are DAO is not only in magazines, but is given "Game of the Month" spots and junk like that. Not only all of that, but DA:O is also being released on all 3 major platforms.

I respectfully disagree with this. They have been a mainstream developer at least as far back as Mass Effect, and possibly further back than that. They have around 500 employees according to Wikipedia, too, which does not exactly make them a small player.

Not only have all of their recent titles sold extremely well, but they have had mass appeal even beyond the hardcore RPG fanatics. Tons of people played Knights of the Old Republic who never played RPGs before.

Bioware is a niche game developer, not a mainstream game developer.

The difference is they make the game they want to play despite anyone's opinion, not the game they think will sell the most. :pinched:

Besides, don't argue about semantics and ignore the actual topic.

1. The people on this site will likely buy the game. You might want to post this thread where it will do some good.

2. Which is no where, because someone isn't going to not pirate a game because interweb dude 323 told them not to do so.

Dracula once said "All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing."

There's no reason to not try to convince people to buy the game.

The day that piracy costs a job at a company that makes a game I like is the day that I accept that I have to register and log online to play a single player game.

Pirated as a punk kid, spend serious cash in my old age.

Pirated games are the sort that stop getting made. Hope you like the games you don't pirate,

You're right. Another negative effect of Piracy is the ever more obtrusive DRM.

You realize that every game for PC and 360 gets pirated right?

Which is ironic because the people who pirate the game don't have to deal with the DRM because their version is cracked.  Only paying customers are inconvenienced.

Self righteous shouting isn't going to change anything. People who pirate know it's illegal and it hurts the company and do it anyway for one reason or another. Making a thread on the main site, which they probably don't frequent will do almost nothing.

And BW is a pretty mainstream (whatever that exactly means) developer in respect to RPGs. KOTOR was their break out in terms of that, along with NWN in terms of tool sets.

Which is why BW is putting just the basics on DA:O I believe. It's the reality of the business that things will be pirated. Finding other ways of stopping it, like not having access to DLC and such is a more realistic way of limiting it.

In the end, the following are facts.

1) The game will be stolen by people.
2) The game will be purchased by people.
3) Intrusive DRM mechanics harm legitimate users more than thieves.

Will anyone shouting actually get anyone's attention? No, because this is a method people have gotten used to doing. They'll accuse you of working for Bioware, or another company that has a vested interest without giving you any method of confirming you to be a fan of the franchise, series, company, etc.

The day I hear "Game X has been pirated" is the day I continue to breathe. (For those not following, piracy was common, still is common, and will still be common.) The sad part is that the overreaction from companies spills over to other markets, such as the RIAA, MPAA, and ISPs trying to clamp down on such things.

If something is genuinely worth money, then people will pay for it and in some cases pay MORE for it. Example being STALKER. STALKER was purchased by a buddy of mine. He bought a retail copy for himself, bought a retail copy for his dad, rebought it on Steam once it arrived for himself, and rebought it on Steam again for his father.

Good games generate a fanatical fanbase. Do well, and that's all you really need since the fanbase would eat out of your palm. See Pokemon.

Please explain how you are going to restrict DLC's. Oh wait, you can't.

"Just putting the basics on DA:O"? Are you kidding me? That has been adressed 4000000001 times already. If you think Bioware is shafting you on content then you...well, there's not much hope for you.
