Yup that pretty much sums up the Avatar series.

Did I mention how incompetent the commanding officer was?

"Hey, lets fly our ships slow and low in an area where we lose the advantages of our sensors and superior firepower. Meanwhile we'll drop our infantry off and have them trek through thick jungle several kilometers, while outnumbered. Yep, this plan is brilliant."

isn't that pretty much how the entire war on terror has been so far? at least it made the movie realistic.

I loved that seeing Hurt Locker win best picture and director.

I wanted district 9 to win myself, but hurt locker would be my second choice.

District 9 is great but as long as Avatar didn't win I was fine with whoever won the award.

Avatar was a ripoff and thinly veiled hippy propaganda.

In fact, Avatar was a direct copy of (Disney's) Pocahontas. It has literally the exact same script.

I know it was bad, but not as bad as you guys said,
I mean how can a BAD movie get over 2 Billion ($2,782,275,172) revenue?

Can anyone explain that?
Again . . . I know it was bad, but its wasnt horrible.

Wow, lots of angst in here. I loved Avatar, and I'm not ashamed to say so. I saw it three times in the theater (in 3D), and own a 3D blu ray copy of it. I thought the visuals were stunning, and I love any movie that can make me cry.

There were some parts in it that were goofy, I'll give you that, but despite those things, I was able to suspend disbelief long enough to enjoy the movie.

Actully I think why so many movies now make so much, is the absurd ticket prices we have now.

This. Tickets for a 3D movie are generally $3 higher than tickets for the regular format. Avatar was a film that resurrected and capitalized on 3D, but I'm wondering if Avatar 2 will be able to do the same.

I've got the perfect ending for the third movie, when humanity fixes the problem.

Thats great logic right there.  Look at the box office for the Twilight movies..... It can't be that bad can it?

Hmm the last 5 years?

Crap...what was that movie I just watched...don't remember the name but it was Set in WW2 Belarus, and was about a jewish resistance, pretty good film,  Mega mind >>..., I think indiana jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull came out then,  Mongol, a Mongolian/Chinese Film on Genghis Khan,  a Russian Film, called the 9th Company, great film, Uhh, Curse of the Golden Flower, another Chinese Film called, 7 Swords, Leters from Iwo Jima, a few other films I'm not sure on, might be a few others, but so far most modern movies I've seen are "Meh" and utterly forgetable (such as inception), or just are crap (such as the Death Race remake versus the original.) And there are a couple of others, just can't remember them atm.

Like I said most films I've seen recently are forgetable, if I take some time I could name more, kind of a spur of the momment thing going on here yah know? Its like asking me to list all the anime I ever watched, I have to think on it lulz.

Now there are several more movies I liked from the early 2000's, such as LotR's, Saving Private Ryan, etc.

As to what I mean on ticket prices like go back 20 years or so.

I charge, $3 bucks to see my movie. One Million People go, and I get Three Million Dollars, then later on my price goes up to 5 dollars, and 1 million people go, then I get 5 million. Then I go up to $15 a ticket and, get 15 Million.

Money more so with rigged prices is NOT a good judge of a good movie, take the timeless classics like Fist Full of Dollars, Seven Samurai, Wizard of Oz, Star Wars A New Hope. All of those movies made WAY less than any modern film. But that had more to do with cheap tickets than anything else. And all of those films are way the hell better than Anything out today with few exceptions.

Once they mine the Unobtainium...can't they just call it Obtanium?

I hope they are smart enough just to fire a relativistic rocket into the atmosphere and ignite it, burning all the space monkeys instead of trying to wage conventional war against them. Then again in a land of floating mountains and mysterious elements which mess up aviation electronics but not signals sent from high tech coffins which control braindead cyborg alien host bodies...I'm not expecting much in way of a story that makes any sense.
