While doing a brief run using vanilla BG1 a few things struck me as differences from my normal BGT + SCS etc setup - thought I would note these down in case anyone is interested:

Ease of use differences
- BG1 is sigificantly slower.  Even at 60 frames it doesn't seem much more than half the speed I'm used to playing at with the BG2 engine.
- map scroll speed is also very slow (I normally used a shortcut to centre map on character rather than scrolling).
- low stack sizes and lack of bags (though these could always be CLUAed in) make inventory management a real pain for a solo player (not great for a party).
- can't buy items in multiples from shops.

Gameplay differences
- enemies normally don't target you unless you're visible to them.
- spellcasters initiative resets each time you enter an area (which makes popping in and out of a room less effective against them than with SCS).
- missile combat is not nerfed as in BG2.
- going into inventory does not pause action (note to self - try to remember this!).
- going into the map does pause action (optional in BG2).
- some aggressors don't attack until they talk - so they can be killed easily first.
- can't see how much damage has been done to enemies.
- lightning doesn't damage you.
- mages are far more fragile because they lack pre-existing spell protections; they also have fewer and generally less nasty spells.
- supply of healing potions is more limited.
- get fatigued much quicker.
- weapons seem to break more.
- undead summoning spells are hugely more effective in BG1 engine.

There are all sorts of differences just between the standard installs; dispel magic, enemy magic resistance, ambushes, spawns, minor positioning of enemies (e.g. the ghast in Nashkel mine just past the bridge), lack of tab key, differences in speed of various animals, weapons vs enemies (werewolf island mainly), xp variations, same scrolls/potions protecting against an effect in one version but not another (against Aec'letec for example).

Gets even worse when you constantly switch between vanilla, BGT and EasyTutu as I used to. SCS completely changes the game, while I understand the rationale that they 'improve' on the original I prefer not to use it but can see why other people would choose to.

My preference is a fairly standard BGT, about what I have now. I liked vanilla but there are a few areas where it just gets annoying on a no-reload;
- Widescreen mod required (for 1024x768 in my case) but ignores some parts of the screen, and screenshot is nerfed.
- Unpaused inventory combined with 20's of arrows or darts makes party play painful as someone always needs more missiles, and as you sort that person out another person is running out.
- Multiplayer pause / unpause lag can mess up a no-reload.
- No way to import to a monk in BG2, that I found anyway.

-first level proficiency cap/proficiency system
-kits/thief abilities/extra classes/extra race
-Tab
-modability!

I don't know about BGT, but I've just started playing both BG2 and TuTu, and I don't see a big difference in playing speed or scrolling speed. Maybe at 60 fps it's more noticable. You do walk a lot faster in BG2, though. Personally, I would always advocate the use of stack size increasers, even if just a little, since whilst it's a bit more realistic, it's no fun to have it how it is in vanilla. A lot of things which are changed for BGT, TuTu, or just 2, I'm not 100% keen on, though (like summons!).
