On Feros, there's the area where Jeong, Juliana, and a few other Feros colonists/employees are hiding out. We're supposed to stop, find out more about what is happening - especially on the way back when we find out more about the Thorian and we're given the knockout grenades.

But we don't have to stop. We can just keep on going, ignoring that outpost of survivors.

So what happens if you do? Anyone tried it?

I have never tried this myself, that is interesting.

However, when you go back, make sure you have the Mako and you're driving it when you return to the colony... trust me. Really glitchy stuff happens if you don't lol, at least it does on the 360.

Well, I have tried this a few times - not stopping the first time.  The changes in dialogue are a little different at the begining, but it's nothing earth shattering.  Maybe a line or two different from Jeong.
