So I am finally at the end and after dying a couple of times and another 30 - 45 minutes of battling, things are going well and I get the archdemon down to about 20%.  Of course the game crashes, which it has been doing quite frequently but most battles in this game aren't that long so I didn't get that upset.  I am now afraid to try this again because I think I might smash the CD if it crashes again.  My relevant information is as follows:
DAO Ultimate Edition (bought retail because I am old fashioned like that)
playing in 1920 X 1080 with everything maxed
Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate Edition
AMD Phenom II x4 B55 3.2Ghz
4 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 5850 with latest Catalyst drivers

If anyone has any suggestions as to how I could play the final battle, I would appreciate it.  This game was extremely long and to have this happen at the end is very discouraging.

Mods you are running?
Temps of your machine CPU and GPU while the game is playing...speedfan should tell you, if you don't have another way of finding out.
Sound card and drivers??
Effects of lowering graphics demand??

I am not running any mods. My CPU seems to stay about 23C, not sure about the GPU but I will find out. My GPU fan definitely cranks up while running this game. My sound card is one of the built in motherboard types, I will have to look that up as well.

The game has issues with more than 2 cores on the CPU. There are instructions in the solutions round-up thread for setting core affinity. It seems to reduce the number of CTDs significantly for most people.
