I hope Bioware doesn't use that as an excuse to slack on any aspect of the game, and that they realize just how high the expectations for ME3 really are. It may not be a shared consensus, but I'm willing to bet a significant portion, maybe even a majority of Mass Effect fans expect ME3 to be the best game of this generation, and definitely one of the best games of all time.

Let's recap. Mass Effect 1 is nearly unparalleled when it comes to story, immersion, and background universe. ME2 improved greatly on the shortcomings of ME1, making it a very polished shooter, including epic presentation throughout the game rather than just at the beginning and end, doing a fantastic job with characterization, increasing the humor (just how many memes spawned from ME2 again?), among other things.

Mass Effect 1 was hailed as a gem representing a high-water mark for video games as a storytelling method. Mass Effect 2 was called the greatest game of the modern era by IGN. Bioware, realize what you have on your hands. Mass Effect 3, in this gamer's opinion, has a chance to be the greatest game ever up to this point in time. It definitely has the potential to make Mass Effect one of the greatest series of all time.

What will make this happen is if you include the best traits of both games according to the loyal fans who have been with Mass Effect from the start. I'm not talking about the hardcore RPG fans, but I'm definitely not talking about the shooter fans who are only looking for cool explosions and beastly guns. Stick to the company's roots, remove the impractical and include the modern action gameplay, but NOT at the expense of good storytelling, deep characterization, and real decision-making.

This is my imploration for Bioware. Make this game as if it were the last one you all ever made, and make some history. Let's make Commander Shepard a household name. Let's sway the minds of people everywhere to not be afraid of aliens. Let's get more kids and teens interested in the development of space exploration and travel. Let's show people just why we cannot continue being divided and conflicted as nation-states. The potential is there. Time for something truly epic.

Nice pep talk...Hoepfully that will give Bioware the motivation they've been lacking thus far:P

I understand being wary about some of the choices Bioware might or might not make in regards to the development of ME3, but to suggest that they might slack off because they know it's going to sell like gangbusters anyway comes off as kind of insulting. These guys are professionals, and by all accounts the development is a true labor of love. Even if I end up being disappointed in the game (though I doubt I will) it won't be because they failed to make the best ME3 they could dream up, it will be because that dream doesn't match my own.

And just for the record, I'll confirm myself among the legions of others as a Day 1 buyer. :D In fact, I'm fairly certain I placed my pre-order the day after Amazon posted the Collector's edition up for sale.

<3 this post.

I was in Gamestop when the CE went up for sale. Saw it on my PSP while browsing the net and rushed up to the counter to pre-order.

Definitely the first person to pre-order at that particular outlet, no doubt. :D

I was the first person at the Gamestop I normally go to change my pre-order from the SE to the CE.  I did it the day after it was announced.  It was something I was waiting for actually.

I didn't like ME2's direction in terms of character presentation. Too comic book. And with Ashley's outfit in ME3, it doesn't seem like they are even considering straying away from the comic book path.

I can't say I would buy it no matter what, but they would have to completely destroy it for me not to buy it. And, I do fear this has allowed them to slack off a bit.

Unfortunately, I do not share your praise ME2 over ME1. ME2 was a serious step backwards (IMO) by making the game too much action and shooter while removing much of the RPG aspects of the game. Personally, I am not pre-ordering ME3 as DA2 left a bad taste in my mouth for Bioware pre-orders, of which used to be automatic. Yes, IMO, ME is the greatest story Bioware has ever made, and maybe the best I have ever experienced, but ME2 took away a lot of that, though I admit after playing it a few times, I was able to look past what lacked by listening to the dialogue and see that it held to the storyline fairly well.

However, ME2 and then (my experience with) DA2 all but killed any pre-ordering for the series. If I were to implore Bioware on the ME series, it would be to make ME3 much more like ME1 with the storyline ending it all.

Well I'm going to buy ME3 based on what I've seen in the demo's already. Looks stellar.

Although I probably wasn't the first person to pre order the CE I'm hoping that I could join in on the high five festivities.:D

Pre-ordered it and not cancel it just for the sake of completing the story if for not playing a good game.

Can't help it. Getting Collector's Edition. Want cool things.

Might return unopened if reviews are horrible. Did that for DA2 when I heard it was released basically unfinished.

Still plan on playing DA2 eventually.  Just waiting for it to be really cheap.

Well, I took this poll and it appears over 90% of voters will buy ME3 no questions asked.
I'm not one of them, but I think ME3 will be good.

Yesss... and this poll is representative in any way... because it's not like there are more than 441 people living in my flat... let alone my street or my city.

Why won't you people post faster, it's your fault I do doubleposts all the time!

Anyways, I highly doubt that ME3 will be the best game to this point by any meaning of the term. Sorry, but I'm a bit skeptical when a company is developing 3 big-budget games during a two year window (SWTOR, ME3, and DA2) but it definitely has the chance to turn the whole series into one of the best series. When I think about best series of games I tend to imagine Mass Effect, Assassins Creed, and Uncharted. If ME can close on a powerful note that justifies all the hype this game has built over the years (I've been hyped for the first since I learnt it was the same team who made KOTOR) then it will definitely go down in gaming history next to Mario, Half-Life, and Starcraft.

All three of those games are handled by separate studios.

Exactly. I think people have this common misconception that BioWare is the tiny developer they were 10 years ago. BioWare is massive now, and they just opened a new studio in Ireland.

Why would you trust reviews? They gushed over L.A. Noire and that game quickly became mind-bogglingly boring.

I know. But unless Bioware releases a personnel count showing who worked on what games, what their positions were, and just how many people are working on which games I'll remain skeptical. 3 big budget games require alot of talent and alot of heads working together, I can't help but fear that Bioware moved some talent from the ME-team to the SWTOR-team, the DA-team to the ME-team (I know Luke was moved around a bit), the SWTOR-team to the DA-team, etc.

Better to be skeptical and hopeful than to be optimistic and dissapointed:whistle:

I understand that you didnt like ME2 but you need to do some research. Bioware is HUGE!! Over 600 employers. Dragon Age and Mass Effect are different teams.

Well, we have an exact personnel count for DA2 at this point, don't we? I mean, all we really need to do is look at its credits, right?

TOR and ME3 definitely have very few individuals working on both. I mean, Karpyshyn can't work on ME3 in any noteworthy way (besides having written the original plans for it years ago, apparently) because he had to move to Texas to work on TOR.

Texas is pretty far from those Canadian offices. I'd imagine they're all unique to their respective projects.

And, well, ME2 won more awards than Albert Einstein. I really doubt Bioware is going to lower the number of people working on it. They want to repeat that success, not avoid it.

Correction:  Might return if my FRIENDS say it's horrible.

That, and, well, there were warning signs all over the place that I shouldn't get StarCraft 2, but I was like naaaah, Blizzard wouldn't let me down after ten years of development.
