Well, I just upgraded my comp to best play this game. Upgraded so I can play everything on max settings.
Got an
AMD Phenom x3 720 3.0gHz processor
4 gigs ddr3 ram
Radeon 4850 1gig vid card

Who else is upgrading their comps for this game and whatcha gonna get?

I didn't upgrade for this game. It was time for a change so I built a new machine about a month ago.

That said I'm anal about running all my games maxed.

I can't wait for Tuesday.

I'm going to see how the game runs first, with a crappo NVidia 9500 (which is the only weak point). If it lags too much, or looks too bad, I'll upgrade the card. Otherwise, I'll just live with it.

Hmmm. I have a Radeon 4850 1GB waiting for me to pick it up on Monday. :) I didn't specifically get it because of DOA, but with gettting DOA and having bought some other higher grachics games I found a really good deal on it and just didn't want to pass it up.

I'm in the same boat as you (I think my card's a little better) and I have a lot of patience for lag. (Right now, my computer can run The Witcher and Assassin's Creed with minimal lag, but it still shows a bit.)

I think I can survive without an upgrade.

I didn't need to upgrade my ps3 at all and it's gonna run on the games max settings, Man did I save some cash! Really though My pc would play DA:O at med-high to max settings but my couch and tv is so much more comfortable. I don;t enjoy upgrading the pc unless absolutely necessary and I usually just build a new system every 2-3 years.

I'm upgrading my computer a few days after release, but not because of Dragon Age. Our office computer died so we're getting a new computer there... which gives me an excuse to upgrade and give my parents my replaced parts.

Which brings me so something I've been wondering about. I'll have a fresh computer once upgraded (new hard drive + OS), so would I be able to download characters tied to my account once I reinstall Dragon Age or would I have to find the save file? I'm sure I could download them, but I wanna double check.

The cool part about this (for me), is that months down the road, when I DO upgrade my card, I'll be able to turn up the settings on the game, and get to experience it at a whole new level.  At least, that's what I tell myself to make me feel better.:(

As for The Witcher, I think my computer plays Crysis (the first one!) smoother than that one, for whatever reason.

Crysis is a highly optimized and effecient FPS game with very little CPU usage.

The Witcher is a very complex, CPU heavy game with many many more caluclations and variables being used as well as being on an outdated engine being pushed beyond it's intended limitations.

Gonna call bull**** on the dual video cards, one Nvidia and one ATI from completely different generations.

It's possible to use two completely different video cards on the same motherboard, if you're using two monitors.

I dunno much about comparisons, but I do know that I usually have to opt out of anything over 2x anti-aliasing, and forget about ansitropic filtering and advanced shader effects, to get good frame rates on any modern game.  Older games I often have to drop the resolution (but that's to be expected on older engines).  Of course, I also have no idea if those graphic options make much subjective difference to my experience, either.

Yes the 9500 is a much weaker card, Number order is not everything for nvidia cards, I would take an 8800 over a 9500
