I upgraded to:
AMD Phenom II x4 965 3.4Ghz
2x2GB DDR3-1600 Corsair Dominator GT CL7
MSI HD5870 1GB + 8800GTS 640MB

It should be able to handle this game and hopefully at least games two years into the future on high/max. :D

Gonna call bull**** on the dual video cards, one Nvidia and one ATI from completely different generations.

It's possible to use two completely different video cards on the same motherboard, if you're using two monitors.

The only reason I can think of ever having an Nvidia and ATI is if you are gonna just make the Nvidia a PhysX card, other than that like Craig said total bull.

Normally they can't, I remember at one time there was talks of being able to turn Nivida cards that had PhysX on the into PhysX cards for ATI users, but I don't know how far that ever went, or if it was ever made fully possible.

Other than that possiblity... not much else.

There are some hacked drivers that will allow Nvidia gpu's, that are physx capable, to run as dedicated physx cards with ATI video cards. I believe you also have to have windows 7. Also, the Lucid Hydra chip (when it comes out) will be able to use a multi-gpu setup using Nvidia & ATI cards.

I have i7 920 @3.8Ghz

6GB OCZ Gold DDR3 1600Mhz

XFX HD5870

Of course it's possible. No, I'm not using two monitors. I'm using the 8800GTS to accelrate solely for PhysX, while my HD5870 does all the graphical work. It's actually a setup that's steadily growing more popular.

I might get a GTX3 this holiday season...

Good luck with that. There is no way Nvidia is going to be able to release them this year. The 40nm yields are so low that TSMC can't even keep up with ATI's orders for the 5800 cards. There is no way they're going to be able to get enough GPUs to Nvidia for them to launch any consumer level 40nm card this year. TSMC said they should have the problem fixed by the end of the quarter ,but that means Nvidia is out for the year. If they can hit 100% yields (which is impossible) then maybe, but not at 40%.

I debating getting a new video card. My 9800 gx2 burned out on me a few months ago, which would have been plenty for this game. Right now I have an old 7900 gtx, which might have some issues, we'll see. All my other parts are well over spec. I was thinking about getting a GTX 260, but I was hoping there would be a price drop soon. I might just wait til the new nvidias come out until I upgrade.

I added a Gig of RAM to my PC earlier this year in anticipation of the game. Other than that, though, I figured if I couldn't run it...I'd beg my wife to let me buy a new PC. Simple answer, really. :D

Prices might actually go up. Nvidia is having sever shortages on their GTX2 GPUs. They've had to greatly cut back on the orders they take and the stock they're able to allocate to each buyer.

Speaking of prices, do you guys think the LGA 1156 mobos will go down in price? What about the i5 and gpus I listed? DDR3 ram?

Well, I have plans on getting a new computer...but it's looking like I won't be able to get it until January...so, while I have my PC CE Dragon Age coming in the mail as we speak, I won't be able to play until I get a new computer...because I'm totally rocking an 8 year old computer I got when I graduated from High School. It is maxed out on upgrades(meaning it can't get any better) and it won't even run Neverwinter Nights 2...so, no Dragon Age for me until January unfortunately.

Actually, No.

I used to have an old Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 installed on my mobo as well as my GeForce GTX 7800 and they both worked fine.

I had two seperate monitors, each hooked u to a seperate video card and I had two sperate displays... all under windows XP.

There's no reason why you couldn't do the same with ATI & nvidia cards.

I always told myself I would upgrade for DA, but thanks to the relatively modest requirements I'll be able to run it fine. It's not going to be the super pretty experience, but then again I just don't game enough anymore to justify upgrading at this time.

So at this point I'm postponing the upgrade for SWTOR =) We'll see when we get there.

And Im going to say you don't know what you are talking about.  People are doing this on purpose so they can use their stronger ATI (not saying that ATI is better then Nvidia just that they may have a stronger ATI card then they do an Nvidia card after say an upgrade or a new computer or in this case a DX11 card vs a DX 10 card) as the graphics and the Nvidia card as a  physx card.  This way they can have the benifits of Nvidia's physx.

Here is a forum from NGOHQ where they modified Nvidia's drivers from disabling physx when an ATI card is in the system.

Oh, it's very possible and amazing. The setup is so awesome nvidia had to block it in their latest firmware so that the market does not get severely threatened by ATi. Of course, a patch that removes the block surfaced on the second day the block came into effect.

Here's a benchmark showing its potential: http://physxinfo.com...ysx-benchmarks/

They'll go down eventually, but it might be a little while. They're still pretty new. DDR3 is dropping very quickly.  Intel only drops prices on their CPUs once per quarter and they don't always drop them a lot or even drop a lot of prices. We might see a slight price decrease early next year. The i9 might cause some of the LGA 1366 CPUs to drop a bit, but I doubt it.

I built my i5 system right when they came out and prices have come down a little bit since then, so all I can say is keep watching and decide how much you're willing to spend.

Here are some benchmarks for you to look at: http://www.firingsqu...mance/page3.asp

The biggest thing with SLI to remember is that you have to keep your drivers up to date and be willing to look around for fixes to problems. Its really something I'd only recommend to you if you're good with computers.

I had built my gaming computer right at the beginning of October. i7 920 CPU, HD 4870 videocard, and 6 GB of RAM.

I think I'll be *just* fine. :)
